Notes:
The optical absorption characteristics of vacuum-deposited thin films of erbium and dysprosium diphthalocyanine were investigated using transmission spectroscopy before and after exposure to chlorine gas and compared with previous work performed upon lead monophthalocyanine (PbPc). Considerable red shifts in the visible absorption spectra were observed after Cl2 exposure for the diphthalocyanines but not for the monophthalocyanine. These were interpreted on the basis of differences in molecular structure in relation to the adsorption of chlorine.
