Description / Table of Contents: The passivity of iron in hydrochloric acid solutionThe phenomenon of the disappearance of the iron passivation in hydrochloric acid solution (PH1 to PH4) has been studied by means of the electrochemical affinity (A)/excess potential (Δ U) diagrams. With PH4, a passivation through iron oxide formation is possible. With PH2 the passivity zone is greatly reduced, and from PH1, the iron shows exclusively active behaviour in hydrochloric acid solution. In such a solution, the iron dissolves directly as trivalent ion.
