Description / Table of Contents:
The resistance to sulphuric acid of austenitic nickel-chromium steels with molybdenum and copper contentsThe resistance to sulphuric acid, which is very limited with 18/8 Cr—Ni steel, is decisively improved by alloying with molybdenum and copper and by increasing the nickel content. A description is given of tentative investigations into the effect of an increased nickel content on the resistance in general and on the sensitivity to stress corrosion cracking in sulphuric acid; the results are compared with those obtained from a nickel-based alloy. A Cr—Ni steel with about 34 pC Ni, alloyed with Mo and Cu, which is discussed in some detail, showed the most favourable behaviour and remained free from cracks.
Notes:
