    Description: La investigación es relevante para los profesionales contadores públicos, dado que, contribuye con la propuesta novedosa de sistema de registro mediante la partida contable multidimensional como evolución del conocimiento científico contable y por su aplicación práctica en la toma de decisiones en las empresas inteligentes. El libro presenta un informe de investigación cuyo objetivo fue demostrar la influencia de la partida contable multidimensional en la toma de decisiones de los profesionales de contabilidad de Huancayo, Huánuco y Huancavelica (Perú). Los resultados relevantes muestran que los hechos contables establecen conclusiones que mejoran la adaptación decisional con certeza determinando que en la doctrina contable de partida multidimensional se utilizan las razones operacionales que mejoran la toma decisional del profesional realizando un diagnóstico. Además, la ontología contable al describir y explicar la realidad contable conduce a mejorar la toma de decisiones desde el enfoque racionalista y considera que la redefinición de las partidas contables doble y triple conducen a mejorar la condición decisional basados en la experiencia y el nivel académico del contador público. Por lo tanto, la influencia de la partida multidimensional mejora la toma de decisiones de los contadores públicos. Se recomienda utilizar tecnologías de minería de datos basados en inteligencia de negocios de la empresa para gestionar el sistema de registro de datos considerando las fases del modelo de partida contable multidimensional propuesto.

    Description: La asignación de presupuesto implica la planificación estratégica y control de recursos financieros antes de su ejecución, esto ese esencial para lograr metas y objetivos organizacionales eficientemente, el mismo que implica la distribución planificada de recursos financieros. El libro presenta un informe de investigación cuyo objetivo planteado fue conocer la relación que existe entre la asignación presupuestaria y la ejecución del gasto público de la Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica. Para obtener los resultados, se aplicó el método científico correlacional para examinar la asociación entre las temáticas en desarrollo, su recolección de información incluyo la observación y análisis de contenido, mientras que para conocer el grado de asociación se aplicó el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman. El cual ha relevado una correlación estadísticamente significativa (r = ,621) entre la asignación presupuestaria y la ejecución de gasto público, en otras palabras, la asignación mayor del presupuesto está asociada con la tendencia de lograr una ejecución más eficiente del gasto público. Concluyendo que la asignación presupuestaria está directamente relacionada con la ejecución del gasto público. Se recomienda una ejecución plena del gasto público, evitando la reversión al tesoro público y eliminación de saldos acumulados, el cual potencia los resultados tangibles e impulso del desarrollo integral de la entidad.

    Fotocatálisis solar en la recuperación de aguas grises para la agricultura (2024)

    Description: El proceso fotocatalítico solar es una tecnología que emplea la energía del Sol para purificar aguas residuales de origen doméstico, convirtiéndolas en una fuente valiosa de recurso hídrico para la agricultura. Este libro se adentra en el estudio de la fotocatálisis solar aplicada a la recuperación de aguas grises, con un enfoque específico en su aplicación para la agricultura. El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar los efectos de un sistema fotocatalítico solar controlado con PLC S7 1500 que permite recuperar aguas grises para su utilización en riego agrícola. El diseño experimental empleado se basó en un Diseño Central Compuesto (DCC) con tres factores (IUV, TiO2 y Tiempo), cada uno con tres niveles; resultando en 6 puntos centrales y axiales. En total, se llevaron a cabo 20 experimentos iniciales en condiciones controladas y luego de la optimización 13 experimentos más. Los parámetros de muestreo se seleccionaron siguiendo las directrices del Estándar de Calidad del Agua (ECA) establecido para el riego de cultivos, asegurando la relevancia y aplicabilidad de los resultados en la agricultura. Para evaluar la calidad de las aguas recuperadas se empleó el método que determina el Índice de Calidad del Agua (ICA-PE%), que permite una medición precisa de la idoneidad del agua para su uso en la agricultura. Los resultados revelaron que el sistema fotocatalítico solar controlado con PLC S7 1500, logró una mejora significativa en la calidad del agua, alcanzando un índice de calidad superior al 86%. Las conclusiones de esta investigación establecen que el sistema es eficaz y tiene el potencial para proporcionar una fuente sostenible de agua de alta calidad para el riego agrícola.

    Description: El análisis secuencial, retrospectivo y prospectivo, sobre deslizamiento de laderas es crucial para su entendimiento y gestiona eficaz a través de la información planificada sobre el uso del suelo y promoción de la resiliencia comunitaria. El objetivo principal fue determinar los resultados de un análisis retrospectivo y prospectivo secuencial en relación al deslizamiento de ladera que afecta a la Ciudad Universitaria de la Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica. Se logró determinar que antes de la concepción del proyecto de construcción en el área, los análisis de estabilidad revelaron factores de seguridad superiores a 1, indicando que la ladera era estable y no mostraba signos de desplazamiento. Sin embargo, tras la ejecución del proyecto y la introducción de infraestructuras, los factores de seguridad disminuyeron significativamente, lo que sugiere una pérdida de estabilidad. Incluso al considerar la influencia adicional de las infraestructuras, la ladera continuó siendo inestable. Además, un análisis posterior al desplazamiento de ladera reveló factores de seguridad aún más bajos (0.305, 0.295, 0.294, 0.458 y 0.458), indicando la alta probabilidad de futuros desplazamientos si no se toman medidas de estabilización adecuadas. Se concluye que el deslizamiento de laderas releva una disminución significativa en la estabilidad, especialmente en la implementación inicial e introducción de maquinarias. Esto denota la suma importancia para comprender los riesgos asociados a la construcción en zonas con desplazamientos de ladera y resaltar la necesidad de estrategias de mitigación efectiva.

    Estilos de aprendizaje y estilos de uso del espacio virtual en estudiantes universitarios (2024)

    Description: Este libro destaca la importancia de aplicar estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje adaptadas a diferentes modalidades educativas según los estilos de aprendizaje y estilos de uso del espacio virtual. Se desarrolló en estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica. Adicionalmente, se presenta un método que utiliza un algoritmo de agrupamiento para identificar conjuntos de estudiantes con perfiles de estilos similares. Los resultados revelan relación entre las dimensiones independientes de ambas variables. De las 16 combinaciones de estilos, solo seis muestran correlaciones moderadas, siendo el coeficiente más alto, entre el estilo Teórico con Estructuración y planificación (r=0.437) y el más bajo entre el Teórico con Búsqueda e investigación (r=0.400). Se agruparon estudiantes usando el análisis de conglomerados K medias. Por ejemplo, se crearon 2 grupos en el II ciclo. En la primera variable, el Grupo 2 tiene preferencia moderada en todos los estilos, mientras que el Grupo 1 solo muestra preferencia moderada por el estilo teórico. En cuanto a los estilos de uso del espacio virtual, el Grupo 1 tiene baja preferencia en todos los estilos, mientras que el Grupo 2 muestra alta preferencia por los estilos participativo y de búsqueda e investigación. En conclusión, los estudiantes tienden a preferir estilos reflexivo y teórico en la primera variable y, en la segunda, muestran inclinación hacia el estilo de búsqueda e investigación, siendo el de acción concreta y producción el menos utilizado. La relevancia de este estudio radica en la falta de evidencia empírica sobre las disparidades y similitudes entre los métodos de aprendizaje en entornos presenciales y virtuales. Se espera que investigaciones futuras propongan estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje adaptadas, contribuyendo a una educación más personalizada.

    Description: Valentín Ortigosa, born in 1784 in Arriate (Málaga), emigrated to Mexico in 1803, where he was ordained a priest. He returned to Spain in 1810. His biography will reflect the events that took place in those years of the 19th century in which he lived, especially the problems that arose in the relations between Rome and Madrid as the representative system was being established. Although he would never occupy a relevant public position, Ortigosa moved in the circle of Agustín Argüelles, or José María de Calatrava; he enjoyed the favor of the queen governor María Cristina and his political opinions, especially in relation to the independence of the American countries, found echo in the press. Presented by the Regent to be bishop of Malaga in 1836, being suspended in fact the relations between the crown of Spain and Rome, his designation was not confirmed, but he was named capitular vicar and this allowed him to rule the Diocese without having been consecrated bishop; he became one of the "intrusive bishops". Due to denunciations of the Chapter of Malaga, a case was opened against him before the Tribunal of the Archbishopric of Seville. Later the appeal of force that Ortigosa raised before the Audience of Seville, and its execution by the Supreme Court ended up giving rise to the rupture of the relationship with the Holy See with the closing of the Nunciature of Madrid in January of 1841. This case and its repercussions are studied in detail in this book, both from the juridical, civil and canonical point of view, as well as from the political point of view. The documentation collected from newspaper archives and from numerous archives, both Spanish and Roman, has made it possible to analyze the consequences of the question of the so-called "intruders" starting from the case of Valentín Ortigosa, a character whose notoriety in these years contrasts with the oblivion of his name after disappearing from public life in 1843.

Su biografía reflejará los acontecimientos que se suceden en esos años del s. XIX en los que vivió, especialmente los problemas que surgieron en las relaciones entre Roma y Madrid a medida que el sistema representativo se iba instaurando. Aunque no ocuparía nunca un cargo público relevante, Ortigosa se movió en el círculo de Agustín Argüelles, o José María de Calatrava; gozó del favor de la reina gobernadora María Cristina y sus opiniones políticas, en especial en lo relacionado con la independencia de los países americanos, encontraron eco en la prensa. Presentado por la Regente para ser obispo de Málaga en 1836, estando suspendidas de hecho las relaciones entre la corona de España y Roma, su designación no se confirmó, pero fue nombrado vicario capitular y esto le permitió regentar la Diócesis sin haber sido consagrado obispo; se convirtió en uno de los “obispos intrusos”. Por denuncias del Cabildo de Málaga se abrió una causa contra él ante el Tribunal del Arzobispado hispalense. Mas tarde el recurso de fuerza que Ortigosa planteó ante la Audiencia de Sevilla, y su ejecución por el Tribunal Supremo acabó dando lugar a la ruptura de la relación con la Santa Sede con el cierre de la Nunciatura de Madrid en enero de 1841. Esta causa y sus repercusiones son estudiadas con detenimiento en este libro, tanto desde el punto de vista jurídico, civil y canónico, como desde la óptica política. La documentación recogida de hemerotecas y de numerosos archivos, españoles y de Roma, ha permitido analizar las consecuencias de la cuestión de los llamados “intrusos” a partir del caso de Valentín Ortigosa, un personaje cuya notoriedad en estos años contrasta con el olvido de su nombre tras desaparecer de la vida pública en 1843.

    Evaluación curricular de una carrera profesional en educación superior universitaria (2024)

    Description: En el contexto actual, los cambios permanentes que se manifiestan en el campo de la educación superior requieren de una evaluación curricular sistemática para una mejora continua del proceso formativo. El libro es una extensión de un artículo científico publicado, cuyo objetivo fue determinar las principales características internas del currículo de una carrera profesional universitaria de educación en Perú, analizando la estructura y organización del plan curricular, y el rendimiento académico y la permanencia de los estudiantes. El currículo tiene varias acepciones a partir de las cuales se abordan la problemática curricular. El currículo como plan presenta un conjunto de elementos en base a los cuales se diseñó el instrumento de evaluación. Los resultados de evaluación del plan curricular indican un nivel deficiente (1.6), esto es, sus elementos tienen limitaciones, mientras que los resultados que corresponden al rendimiento académico de los estudiantes están en el nivel regular (12.6), y finalmente, los estudiantes tienen un porcentaje de permanencia del 56.5%, que indica una alta tasa de deserción estudiantil. Por lo tanto, se ha identificado entre las principales características internas del currículo de una carrera universitaria, que el plan curricular es deficiente ya que carece en muchos casos de los componentes curriculares y en otros no están definidos con precisión, asimismo los estudiantes presentan en promedio un rendimiento académico de nivel regular y una tasa de permanencia que se equipara con una alta deserción estudiantil. Por lo que se recomienda la actualización e innovación del plan curricular de la carrera acorde a las necesidades del contexto actual, así como la puesta en práctica de acciones para la mejora del rendimiento académico y la permanencia estudiantil.

    Description: At the end of the 19th century, Spain enjoyed a favorable climate for developing true freedom of the press, a right recognized in Article 13 of the Constitution of 1876 and developed through the Printing Police Law of 1883. However, throughout the period of the Bourbon Restoration (1883-1923), the Spanish government, represented by the conservative and liberal parties that peacefully took turns in power, adopted a series of measures that distorted the longed-for freedom of Spanish publications. The political and social events characteristic of this period (especially the terrorism of the end of the 19th century, the colonial conflicts in Cuba and Morocco or the influence of the regionalisms of the 20th century), had a notable influence on the actions of the public authorities. The latter used different legal instruments (the approval of different laws limiting freedom, the frequent declaration of the suspension of constitutional guarantees or the multiple sentences imposed through the ordinary courts), and other indirect mechanisms (the reptile funds or the sending of guidelines to newspapers under the threat of suspension or suppression of the newspapers), which served to establish a regime of information control, especially severe with the press that did not follow the guidelines of the liberal regime in place, and which left the liberal Printing Press Law practically without effect.

    Description: A finales del siglo XIX, España gozaba de un clima favorable para desarrollar una verdadera libertad de prensa, derecho reconocido en el artículo 13 de la Constitución de 1876 y desarrollado a través de la Ley de Policía de Imprenta de 1883. Sin embargo, a lo largo del período de la Restauración borbónica (1883-1923), el Gobierno español, representado por el partido conservador y el liberal que se turnaban pacíficamente en el poder, adoptó una serie de medidas que distorsionaron la ansiada libertad de las publicaciones españolas. Los acontecimientos políticos y sociales característicos de esta etapa (especialmente, el terrorismo de finales del siglo XIX, los conflictos coloniales en Cuba y Marruecos o la influencia de los regionalismos del siglo XX), influyeron de forma notable en la actuación del poder público. Este utilizó distintos instrumentos legales (la aprobación de distintas leyes que limitaban la libertad, la frecuente declaración de la suspensión de garantías constitucionales o las múltiples condenas impuestas a través de los tribunales ordinarios), y otros mecanismos indirectos (los fondos de reptiles o el envío de orientaciones a los periódicos bajo la amenaza de la suspensión o la supresión de los periódicos), que les sirvieron para establecer un régimen de control informativo, especialmente severo con la prensa que no seguía las directrices del régimen liberal instaurado, y que dejó prácticamente sin efecto la Ley de Imprenta liberal.

    Uso del amonio cuaternario en la separación de cobre y recuperación de cianuro en la extracción de metales por lixiviación (2024)

    Description: En empleo del amonio cuaternario, en la extracción de metales por lixiviación, tiene como objetivo adsorber y recuperar el cianuro, mitigando los riesgos ambientales. El objetivo del presente libro consistió en evaluar el impacto de la concentración de amonio cuaternario, el pH y la temperatura en un proceso de precipitación química a nivel de laboratorio, con el objetivo de entender su influencia en la remoción de cobre de soluciones cianuradas. El enfoque principal del estudio fue la regeneración del cianuro, con la intención de reutilizarlo en el proceso de lixiviación de oro, con miras a mejorar la eficiencia global de dicho proceso. Para llevar a cabo las pruebas experimentales, se preparó una solución sintética utilizando sulfato de cobre y cianuro de sodio, con concentraciones equivalentes a entornos industriales (700 ppm de cobre y 2500 ppm de cianuro). Los experimentos, bajo un diseño factorial 23, abarcaron dos niveles de concentración de amonio cuaternario (2,5 g/L y 7,5 g/L), dos niveles de pH (8 y 10), y dos niveles de temperatura (17 °C y 22 °C). Se evaluó la concentración de cobre por ICP-OES al final de cada prueba. La eficacia de la remoción se midió comparando el cobre eliminado por precipitación con la cantidad inicial en la solución cianurada. En promedio, se removió hasta un 92,93% de cobre, logrado con 7,5 g/L de amonio cuaternario, pH 8 y 22 °C. Se observó que mayor concentración de amonio cuaternario y temperatura elevada aumentaron la remoción, pero un pH alto redujo la eficacia de remoción de cobre.

El libro presenta una investigación que tuvo como objetivo analizar la percepción de hostigamiento o acoso sexual en los estudiantes de una universidad pública en Huancavelica – Perú. Se realizó una encuesta aplicando el instrumento de Bardales y Ortiz (2012) Entre las páginas se presentan los antecedentes teóricos y la evolución histórica del hostigamiento como problema que aqueja a nuestra sociedad. El estudio permitió identificar una alta percepción de sucesos de hostigamiento en la universidad, especialmente en las carreras vinculadas a las ciencias y humanidades, tanto varones como mujeres fueron víctimas de acoso lo que representa un peligro a su integridad física y moral. Los sucesos más comunes son los comentarios sexuales, comentarios sobre alguna parte de su cuerpo, correos electrónicos y mensajes de texto hostigadores, y en menor medida el contacto físico (tocamientos). Se concluyó además que existe un constructo social entre la comunidad educativa, asociando la causa del problema a las “provocaciones” de la víctima. Las mujeres se ven más afectadas en el aspecto emocional desencadenando diversos trastornos como depresión, ansiedad y estrés post traumático. Finalmente, es importante que las universidades e instituciones educativas fomenten políticas instructivas y que se condenen los hechos evitando represalias contra las víctimas, y evitando la “normalización” de estos sucesos.

La investigación tiene como objetivo comprender la relevancia del marketing como estrategia para alcanzar el liderazgo empresarial en el sector de transporte interurbano en el distrito de Acoria (Huancavelica – Perú) en el 2016. La investigación es aplicada, de enfoque correlacional, método descriptivo para precisar las características demográficas de las unidades investigadas y para identificar las actitudes y procedimientos de los empresarios transportistas respecto al marketing; el diseño de la investigación es de tipo básico, no experimental, de corte transversal y correlacional, recopilando datos en un solo momento. Los resultados indican una relación significativa entre el marketing como estrategia y el liderazgo empresarial en las empresas de transporte interurbano en el distrito de Acoria; lo cual resalta la importancia estratégica del marketing en el contexto específico de estas empresas, subrayando su papel clave en el logro y mantenimiento del liderazgo empresarial. Este hallazgo tiene implicaciones significativas para la toma de decisiones futuras, enfatizando la necesidad de priorizar y optimizar las estrategias de marketing como parte integral de la gestión empresarial para asegurar el éxito sostenible en el mercado de transporte interurbano de Acoria.

    Description: La contaminación de aguas superficiales procedentes de cabeceras de cuenca de zonas mineras con metales y metaloides, es un problema ambiental que debe ser abordado, a través de la investigación científica, para minimizar sus impactos y sus efectos. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar y evaluar la eficiencia de bioadsorción de vegetales silvestres en la eliminación de metales y metaloides presentes en agua superficial proveniente de cabeceras de cuencas del centro poblado de San Pedro de Mimosa Ccochaccasa en la provincia de Angaraes, Huancavelica - Perú. Esto implica utilizar plantas silvestres como agentes de absorción para reducir la concentración de contaminantes en el agua, en este caso, metales y metaloides provenientes de la actividad minera. El estudio se llevó a cabo de manera experimental, prospectiva, transversal y analítica, lo que corresponde al nivel de investigación aplicativa. El muestreo se realizó de manera intencional a criterio de los investigadores. La eficiencia de adsorción para la planta chilca fue 16.28% de As, 28.60% de Cd y 27.31% de Pb, para diente de león 28.70% de As, 79.33% de Cd y 28.75% de Pb y a cáscara de tuna 48.39% en As, 46.38% de Cd y 45.23% de Pb. El resultado es significativo, el diente de león con 45.59% supera a la cáscara de tuna en 39.44% y chilca en 33.44%. Se llevó a cabo un análisis estadístico con método Tukey y se determinó que no existe una diferencia significativa en las eficiencias de bioadsorción entre las plantas. Los resultados podrían ser aprovechados para diseñar sistemas de tratamiento de aguas basados en la bioadsorción utilizando estas plantas, ofreciendo una alternativa sostenible y económica a los métodos convencionales de remoción de contaminantes.

    Description: Para el personal administrativo, la regulación estatal es esencial para realizar la evaluación y mejora de la gestión pública, promovido a través de la eficiencia y transparencia, que por medio del valor público busca generar óptimos beneficios enfatizados en la participación ciudadana y adaptación de la organización. El presente libro se desarrolló con el objetivo de determinar la relación de la regulación estatal y el valor público en el personal administrativo de la Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica - año 2018, al cual fue estadísticamente aplicado el coeficiente de correlación Pearson. Los resultados revelaron una correlación positiva moderada (r = ,655) entre la regulación estatal y el valor público, del cual, la mayoría opina que el control gubernamental es favorable y el valor público es medio (78,1%). Concluyendo que, aunque existe una relación significativa y positiva entre la regulación estatal y la evaluación del valor público, la percepción general del valor público no alcanza niveles extremadamente altos. Se recomienda fortalecer las iniciativas que promuevan el control gubernamental entre el personal administrativo, enfocándose en la mejora de la eficiencia y transparencia en la gestión pública.

    Description: This volume explores the discursive construction of debates around the topic of vaccination, with a particular focus on the hypothesis of a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. The research analyses the coverage of the debate in the British press up to 2019, through the tools of corpus-assisted discourse analysis and in light of the so-called “post-truth era”. The analysis focuses on the construction of medico-scientific debates in the media, in particular on issues of newsworthiness and polyphony. The discursive representation of evidence and the (de)legitimation strategies of social actors interacting in the debate are then explored. A large part of the volume is also devoted to the topic of argumentative narratives and the evidential value of personal experience. Each chapter of the monograph illustrates a connection between these aspects of the MMR vaccine controversy and the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar el rendimiento de la gestión pública de la Municipalidad Provincial de Tayacaja en Huancavelica (Perú), mediante la aplicación del sistema de Dirección por Objetivos, fundamentado en el Balanced Scorecard (BSC). El proceso incluyó la recolección de información mediante encuestas. La aplicación del modelo ha demostrado ser consistente para asegurar el cumplimiento de objetivos estratégicos, generando aprobación ciudadana hacia la gestión municipal. La asignación de roles y responsabilidades a cada trabajador, independientemente de su cargo, impulsa la efectividad organizacional. Se concluye que la implementación del sistema de gestión por objetivos basado en el BSC tiene un impacto favorable en el rendimiento de la gestión pública de la Municipalidad Provincial de Tayacaja, lo anterior subraya la importancia significativa de la investigación realizada, que no solo respalda la eficacia del enfoque estratégico adoptado, sino que también proporciona valiosas perspectivas para orientar futuras estrategias de gestión y políticas públicas.

The memoirs in which, throughout most of his life, he recorded these and other public and private events, remained unpublished as a whole until now. Se abordó mediante encuestas a contadores públicos, autoridades, administrativos y docentes de tres universidades de la región analizada. Aplicando la prueba de Chi Cuadrado se identificó que la planificación estratégica universitaria, que define la visión, misión, políticas y estrategias de gestión universitaria, mejora el posicionamiento del contador público mediante el análisis competitivo – comparativo, al igual que el diagnóstico FODA y la evaluación curricular. La organización estratégica universitaria es descentralizada, participativa, presupuestada con tecnología que influye en posicionamiento del perfil del contador público determinando que genera oportunidades laborales. La dirección estratégica con liderazgo, habilidades y destrezas del personal mejora el posicionamiento del contador público penetra el mercado meta y la mente del consumidor. El control académico, administrativo y normativo determina las estrategias de posicionamiento utilizando el marketing 4.0 con ventajas competitivas y tecnologías. El estudio sugiere que la gestión estratégica universitaria, cuando se enfoca en la planificación clara, herramientas de análisis, organización eficiente, liderazgo sólido, control efectivo y estrategias de posicionamiento adecuadas, puede tener un impacto positivo en el posicionamiento del contador público en el mercado laboral. Esto enfatiza la importancia de una formación integral y estratégica para los futuros contadores públicos en las diferentes regiones del centro del Perú.

    Description: La industria del aserrío presenta diversos riesgos para los trabajadores, destacando golpes, caídas y cortes debido al uso de maquinaria y a prácticas laborales inadecuadas. Se realizó un estudio en seis empresas de Huancayo (Perú) para analizar estos riesgos y proponer medidas de control. Se utilizó un método descriptivo y transversal, seleccionando aleatoriamente 6 empresas homogéneas de la población total de 34. Se evaluaron variables como golpes, caídas y cortes, y su impacto en la salud de los trabajadores. Los resultados indicaron que los golpes representan un riesgo bajo a medio, siendo comunes, pero con lesiones leves. Las caídas presentan un riesgo medio, siendo frecuentes y causando lesiones temporales. Sin embargo, los cortes representan el riesgo más grave, con posibilidad de accidentes fatales, clasificándose como riesgo alto. Esto sugiere que, aunque los golpes y caídas son comunes, los cortes son menos frecuentes, pero más peligrosos. Es fundamental que los empleadores implementen medidas de control adecuadas, como la capacitación en seguridad laboral y el uso de equipos de protección personal, para prevenir accidentes graves. Además, se requiere una vigilancia constante de las prácticas laborales para garantizar un entorno seguro para los trabajadores del aserrío.

Este libro representa un informe de investigación presentado en el sistema universitario del Perú. Surge de una exhaustiva investigación que parte de la realidad problemática, enfocándose en desentrañar los intrincados vínculos entre los sistemas de información gerencial y la toma de decisiones. El objetivo primordial de esta investigación fue determinar la relación existente entre los sistemas de información y la toma de decisiones organizacionales en la Dirección Regional de Salud Huancavelica (DIRESA) en Perú. Los sistemas de información se definen como conjuntos de componentes interactivos que recopilan, procesan, almacenan y comparten información. Son esenciales para organizaciones de todos los tamaños y sectores, respaldando un proceso de toma de decisiones, que conlleva desde decisiones personales hasta aquellas más complejas. Este proceso permite elegir entre diversas alternativas para alcanzar objetivos, lo cual puede resultar en el éxito o quiebre de una institución. Se obtuvo un coeficiente de correlación de r=0.524, lo que sugiere una relación directa y moderada entre las variables de estudio. Estos hallazgos poseen un potencial significativo, al indicar que las técnicas de la gestión empresarial como los sistemas de información son relevantes y completamente adaptables a una organización de la administración pública en el entorno de la salud, proporcionando valiosas perspectivas para la toma de decisiones y la optimización de los sistemas de información gerencial. Las Direcciones de Salud del Perú pueden adaptar dichas herramientas para la mejora de su gestión.

    Description: El uso de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación (TICs) en la gestión gubernamental impacta en la motivación ciudadana para involucrarse en asuntos de gobierno, legitimando la toma de decisiones en políticas públicas y gestión administrativa. Esta investigación exploró la intersección entre el gobierno digital y la participación ciudadana, dos conceptos fundamentales en la era de la información. El objetivo es entender cómo las tecnologías digitales están redefiniendo la relación entre los gobiernos y los ciudadanos, y cómo esta transformación contribuye a una administración pública más eficiente, transparente y participativa. El estudio inició con una revisión teórica de los conceptos de las variables de estudio, seguida de una exploración de la percepción de funcionarios públicos sobre el papel que desempeña la municipalidad distrital en otorgar medios o canales de comunicación para facilitar la participación ciudadana utilizando tecnologías digitales. Se realizó un análisis empírico basado en datos recopilados a través de encuestas y entrevistas con funcionarios públicos y ciudadanos. Este análisis identificó las actividades prácticas y los desafíos en la implementación de políticas de gobierno digital y participación ciudadana. Las conclusiones indicaron que hay una influencia significativa del gobierno digital en la participación ciudadana. Sin embargo, esta influencia se ve limitada por el acceso restringido a los canales de comunicación virtuales, que se acompaña por una gestión municipal inadecuada, que permite la disminución de la eficiencia de los servicios municipales digitales. El estudio espera contribuir al creciente cuerpo de literatura sobre gobierno digital y participación ciudadana, y proporcionar una guía útil para aquellos que buscan navegar en esta nueva era de la administración pública digital.

    Description: Los residuos sólidos pueden tener un impacto significativo en el medio ambiente si no se gestionan adecuadamente. La acumulación de basura puede contaminar suelos, aguas subterráneas y superficiales, así como afectar la biodiversidad y la calidad del aire, afectando notablemente la salud pública. El libro presenta un estudio que tuvo como objetivo analizar la relación entre la gestión municipal de residuos sólidos domiciliarios y no domiciliarios en la ciudad de Huancavelica – Perú, en el periodo 2016. La unidad de análisis incluyó jefes de familia y personal de limpieza de instituciones públicas y privadas, seleccionados mediante muestreo aleatorio simple, se emplearon dos cuestionarios validados por juicio de expertos para la medición de cada variable de estudio. Los resultados confirmaron una relación estadísticamente significativa y directa entre la gestión de residuos sólidos y la gestión municipal (0.589). Esto sugiere que mientras la gestión municipal sea más eficiente, también mejora la gestión de residuos sólidos. Además, se ha identificado en gran medida una percepción negativa sobre las labores de la municipalidad en materia ambiental. Esto implica que el mal funcionamiento de las estructuras municipales, que incluyen la planificación urbana, los servicios públicos y la toma de decisiones, puede ser el eje de la razón de la inadecuada gestión de residuos. Esto subraya la importancia de tener sistemas de gobierno locales sólidos y eficaces. El estudio es un antecedente importante que demuestra la necesidad de la implementación de un plan de residuos sólidos fomenta la conciencia pública sobre la importancia de la separación de residuos y el consumo responsable. Esto puede impulsar cambios en el comportamiento de la comunidad en Huancavelica, generando hábitos más sostenibles.

Se presenta las bases teóricas más relevantes de la motivación y las estrategias de aprendizaje en el contexto universitario. Además, se presenta la metodología empleada para el cumplimiento del objetivo de investigación. El estudio concluyó que la mayoría de los estudiantes analizados tienen niveles altos de motivación y niveles medios de empleo de estrategias de aprendizaje. Las estrategias más utilizadas incluyen la regulación de recursos, el ensayo, la autorregulación metacognitiva y la gestión del tiempo y el entorno de estudio, entre otras. Estos resultados pueden indicar un alto interés por aprender, pero con margen de mejora en la implementación efectiva de estrategias de aprendizaje. Es importante enfocarse en el fortalecimiento de sus habilidades de aprendizaje. Se destaca la difusión de estrategias más efectivas para aprender, como la planificación, la toma de apuntes, el uso de recursos y la gestión del tiempo.

    Description: La actividad minera genera recursos útiles para la sobrevivencia humana, pero su ineficiencia causa desequilibrios en el ecosistema. El libro presenta un informe de investigación cuyo objetivo fue determinar los niveles de metales tóxicos presentes en el agua y sedimentos del río Opamayo producto del desfogue accidental de la empresa minera Kolpa. La metodología es experimental y longitudinal, con muestreo intencional a lo largo del río, tomadas 5 muestras en agua y 5 en sedimento; siendo el punto 1 (P1) la poza de Minera Kolpa, el P2 rio Escalera, P3 unión de ríos Escalera y Huachocolpa, el P4 rio Opamayo – Palca, P5 rio Opamayo – Tucsipampa; las muestras se colocaron en medio ácido para el proceso de digestación en laboratorio y análisis con el espectrofotómetro de absorción atómica por flama. Los resultados revelaron para el cadmio (Cd) 0.537 mg/L, superando LMP D.S. Nº 010-2010-MINAM para efluentes líquidos de actividades minero – metalúrgicas (0.05 mg/L); para el plomo (Pb) 0.026mg/L y en el metaloide arsénico (As) -0.863 mg/L, indica; valores dentro del límite. En sedimentos las concentraciones de arsénico (As) 404.037 mg/kg, cadmio (Cd) 25.151 mg/kg y plomo (Pb) 936.807 mg/kg, están por encima de los límites de la Norma Canadiense PEL (Niveles de efecto probable). Concluyendo, mediante análisis estadísticos; existe una influencia significativa negativa de los contaminantes tóxicos del desfogue de aguas y sedimentos metálicos embalsados al ecosistema del rio Opamayo; el estudio contribuye en la toma de decisiones en materia de regulación y gestión ambiental, reflexionando prácticas más sostenibles en minería extractiva, preservando la integridad del ecosistema acuático en el ámbito de estudio.

Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences.

    Description: The Material Body exploits the possibilities of studying the material body in the past primarily through the sources and approaches of archaeology, history and material culture studies. Together, these seven chapters draw upon collections of human remains, material culture and documentary evidence from Britain during the period 1700–1850; major themes are gender, class, age, disability and maternity. Some contributions are co-authored by a historian and archaeologist; others are single authored. But each chapter explores the lived experiences of the material body drawing on disciplines which share an interest in the material or embodied turn.     Description: In 2018 the Court of Justice of the European Union recalled that organisms with genomes modified by artifactual techniques should be considered GMOs under European regulations. GMOs derived from cultures of cells isolated in vitro or from new genomic techniques must therefore be traceable. This chapter reviews the various technical steps and characteristics of those techniques causing genomic and epigenomic scars and signatures. These intentional and unintentional traces, some of which are already used for varietal identification, and are being standardized, can be used to identify these GMOs and differentiate them from natural mutants. The chapter suggests a routine procedure for operators and control laboratories to achieve this without additional costs.

    Description: Changing the Course of AIDS is an in-depth evaluation of a new and exciting way to create the kind of much-needed behavioral change that could affect the course of the global health crisis of HIV/AIDS. This case study from the South African HIV/AIDS epidemic demonstrates that regular workers serving as peer educators can be as—or even more—effective agents of behavioral change than experts who lecture about the facts and so-called appropriate health care behavior. After spending six years researching the response of large South African companies to the epidemic that is decimating their workforce as well as South African communities, David Dickinson describes the promise of this grassroots intervention—workers educating one another in the workplace and community—and the limitations of traditional top-down strategies. Dickinson's book takes us right into the South African workplace to show how effective and yet enormously complex peer education really is. We see what it means when workers directly tackle the kinds of sexual, gender, religious, ethnic, and broader social and political taboos that make behavior change so difficult, particularly when that behavior involves sex and sexuality. Dickinson's findings show that people who are not officially health care experts or even health care workers can be skilled and effective educators. In this book we see why peer education has so much to offer societies grappling with the HIV/AIDS epidemic and why those interested in changing behaviors to ameliorate other health problems like obesity, alcoholism, and substance abuse have so much to learn from the South African example.

    Description: Chinese civil society groups have achieved iconic policy advocacy successes in the areas of environmental protection, women’s rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. This book examines why some groups are successful in policy advocacy within the authoritarian context, while others fail. A mechanism of cultural resonance is introduced as an innovative theoretical framework to systematically compare interactions between Chinese civil society and the government in different movements. It is argued that civil society advocacy results depend largely on whether advocators can achieve cultural resonance with policymakers and the mainstream public through their social performances. The effective performance is the one in which advocators employ symbols embraced by the audience (policymakers and the public) in their actions and framings.     Description: The internet is changing the way that knowledge is made and shared. Knowledge-making in face-to-face settings is being replaced by information gathering from remote sources, whose origins may be concealed but which can create an illusion of intimacy. Though remote communication is beneficial in many ways – modern societies would fail without it -- and though the tight boundaries of the face-to-face can be used for evil purposes such as criminal conspiracy, if the overall trend to remote communication continues unchecked, it could be disastrous for the future of democracy and the very idea of truth itself. Too much reliance on remote communication threatens the core institutions of democratic societies. We explain the change in technical detail, from a systematic analysis of the workings of the face-to-face to a high level setting-out of its dangerous political implications. The analysis includes field studies, reflexive examination, drawing on the wide experience of the authors, of the stickiness of the face-to-face in our own work and other institutions, and network analysis which explains the illusion of intimacy that can be generated inadvertently or maliciously. We look at the apparent effectiveness of techniques such as blockchain and the limits of their domain. New information is provided about the malicious use of disinformation by foreign powers. We dramatise the dangers to Western pluralist democracy through a personal accounting of the 2020 American election. By drawing out the special features of face-to-face interaction and its constitutive role in creating societies, with science as the icon, the book sets out an agenda for civic education that can protect democratic institutions from the erosion of pluralism and the facile abandonment of trustworthy expertise. The authors conclude by returning to the themes set out at the start of the book, namely the crucial role played by trust in modern societies and the importance of face-to-face interactions in reproducing that trust, and the democratic institutions in which it should be invested.

    Description: The university reforms that took place in Europe throughout the 18th century were an important moment of change in the history of these institutions. In the Iberian Peninsula, this wave of reforms left its mark in Coimbra and Salamanca (later reaching the other Spanish universities). Portugal and Spain were no strangers to the motivations and even to the general lines of this wave of reforms. Inseparable from the ideas of the Enlightenment, and with a clear will to combat the backwardness and decadence of these institutions, rather ambitious projects emerged, albeit in different degrees. Coimbra faced a rather disruptive initial situation while in Salamanca later plans (1807, for example) proved to be quite ambitious as well. All having a mandatory nature, it would not be correct to say that these Universities did not participate in these processes of reform. Individually or on behalf of collective bodies, several initiatives and proposals emerged during this period in both Universities. In addition, the participation of professors in the statutes and plans that were launched since 1771 is recurrent. Beyond this aspect, it will not be forced to state that the curricular aspect was the most significant mark of these reforms. Thus, we chose to study in a comparative way subjects that sought to explain the concept of nature and its products. With the clear objective of preparing a body of technicians capable of providing a rational and effective exploitation of the various natural products, the faculties of mathematics and philosophy emerged. In the case of medicine, natural products were essential to produce medicines and in this sense the reform of this knowledge brought, among other changes, matters linked to pharmaceutical studies. In the area of law, a relevant introduction was natural law. The perception of natural law was not similar in both countries, and an evident consequence was the greater instability of this chair in Salamanca. Inseparable from the curricular aspects was the adoption of foreign compendia and the encouragement given to the teachers to write their own textbooks. The adoption of textbooks was quite similar, and clearly shows us the lines that reformers sought to follow to modernize these university institutions.

En la Península Ibérica, esta oleada de reformas dejó su impronta en Coimbra y Salamanca (llegando después a las demás universidades españolas). Portugal y España no fueron ajenos a las motivaciones e incluso a las líneas generales de esta ola de reformas. Inseparables de las ideas de la Ilustración, y con una clara voluntad de combatir el atraso y la decadencia de estas instituciones, surgieron proyectos bastante ambiciosos, aunque en distinto grado. Coimbra se enfrentó a una situación inicial bastante perturbadora, mientras que en Salamanca los planes posteriores (1807, por ejemplo) resultaron también bastante ambiciosos. Teniendo todas ellas un carácter obligatorio, no sería correcto decir que estas Universidades no participaron en estos procesos de reforma. Individualmente o en nombre de organismos colectivos, surgieron durante este periodo varias iniciativas y propuestas en ambas Universidades. Además, es recurrente la participación de los profesores en los estatutos y planes que se pusieron en marcha desde 1771. Más allá de este aspecto, no será forzado afirmar que el aspecto curricular fue la marca más significativa de estas reformas. Así, se optó por estudiar de forma comparada las asignaturas que buscaban explicar el concepto de naturaleza y sus productos. Con el claro objetivo de preparar un cuerpo de técnicos capaces de proporcionar una explotación racional y eficaz de los distintos productos naturales, surgieron las facultades de matemáticas y filosofía. En el caso de la medicina, los productos naturales eran imprescindibles para la elaboración de medicamentos y, en este sentido, la reforma de estos conocimientos trajo, entre otros cambios, materias vinculadas a los estudios farmacéuticos. En el ámbito del derecho, una introducción relevante fue el derecho natural. La percepción del derecho natural no era similar en ambos países, y una consecuencia evidente fue la mayor inestabilidad de esta cátedra en Salamanca. Inseparable de los aspectos curriculares fue la adopción de compendios extranjeros y el estímulo dado a los profesores para escribir sus propios libros de texto. La adopción de libros de texto fue bastante similar, y nos muestra claramente las líneas que pretendían seguir los reformistas para modernizar estas instituciones universitarias.

    Description: This book presents a classic legal study of banning organisations in Dutch law. One of the main research questions is when, according to our law, an organisation is right for a ban. Must the organisation commit criminal offences, or are there other starting points for banning it? Another key question is what kind of organisations can be banned. Are, for example, political parties and denominations excluded, given the special function of these organisations in our society? Other important questions are how the procedure works, which body is authorised to ban and how legal protection against a ban is designed. In answering these questions, the author focuses on the fundamental question of the extent to which the regulation complies with the requirements arising from the freedom of association enshrined in our Constitution and treaties binding under international law. By no means all regulations meet these requirements. With a comparative law analysis of German and French law, the author makes recommendations to improve our prohibition regime on these issues

    Description: This book presents a three-phase methodology for the efficient diagnosis of “dry dikes†(i.e. dykes built above normal water levels of the rivers that provide protection at time of flood). Although the principles of the method described herein were developed on dikes in France, they may be applied with confidence to flood protection dikes and levees in other countries around the world. Phase one of the methodology involves gathering as much information as possible about the dike from archive analysis, interviews with managers and inspections of the structures. This phase is essential in ensuring the high quality of the final diagnosis. The main aim of the second phase – the geophysical survey – is to divide up the dike into zones in order to identify sections of the structure that are vulnerable to irreversible damage during a flood because of their particular physical characteristics. The geophysical methods used must be capable of surveying over long distances and of revealing heterogeneities both within the dike and in its foundation. The third phase – the geotechnical investigation – consists of various tests and drillings that ascertain in situ the principal mechanical characteristics and properties of the materials that make up the structure.     Description: Alone in the Dark is an experimental memoir – or perhaps, more accurately, an anti-memoir or fabulist memoir, some unruly combination of essay, prose poem, and floating reverie that examines the relationship between one’s cultural heritage and one’s aesthetic devotions. Unlike a traditional autobiography that details the chronological events of a person’s life, the book begins with the obsessive moviegoing of Dibbern’s early years in New York and then unfurls as a fevered rumination on the role that an excessive love of art plays in shaping ideas about one’s identity. The book opens with the American premiere of the Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr’s harrowing, eight-hour-long magnum opus Sátántangó in 1998 as an emblematic cinephile experience. Dibbern then frames the book by asking, why would anyone devote the bulk of their waking hours to such a compulsive pursuit of a seemingly passive experience of art? Sitting alone in a darkened movie theater, he suggests, is not a passive, but a creative act: developing an aesthetic taste, after all, is central to defining our identities. And taste is the product of two contradictory impulses: the will to simultaneously embrace and escape the values of our cultural backgrounds that made us who we are. With these conjectures as the jumping-off point, the book commences its discursive explorations, wending and weaving between topics as diverse as Carl Jung’s theories of the collective unconscious, Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Ordet, old family photo albums, nineteenth-century immigration to North Dakota, the actress Gena Rowlands’s histrionic mental breakdowns, the self-portraits that the Mandan chief Mato-Tope made in the 1830s, and the dizzyingly joyful suicidal games in Howard Hawks’s film about aviation, Only Angels Have Wings.

    Description: The Faculty of Philosophy and Letters in Madrid commissioned Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo and Nicolás Salmerón to write a report on the royal decrees that reduced university staffing levels, given by virtue of the authorisations granted by the Budget Law of 30 June 1892. The text of the opinion is reproduced together with some extracts from a well-known book by the professor from the Central University (Historia de los heterodoxos españoles) which help to understand the context of the message. It thus serves to document the extent of an opinion, which is not confined to a single group - the Krausist group - but is shared by other sectors that conceive of the university as something more than an administrative office. The key ideas are: the immobility of the teaching staff; an ideal of family life geared towards scientific research; the demand for autonomy - freedom of action - for the university body; the conception of the university as the representative of national culture; the promotion of scientific and not only professional faculties; the intervention of the university in the choice of its staff; the elimination of course exams... In short, it rejected "the trampling importation of the French centralist regime" and called for emancipation from excessive official tutelage.

For the newly introduced courses, interdisciplinary learning materials have been developed by a team of lecturers from four different universities in three countries. In a first study block, students were taught methods from the two main research fields. Afterwards, the knowledge gained had to be applied in a project. For this international project, teams were formed, consisting of one student from each university participating in the project. The achieved results were presented in a summer school a few months later. At this event, more methodological knowledge was imparted to prepare students for a final simulation game about spatial and economic decision making. In a broader sense, the chapters will present the methodological background of the project, give case studies and show how visualisation and the simulation game works.

Safety and security problems in our society involve not only engineering but also social, legal, economic, cultural, and psychological issues. The enhancement needed for societal safety includes comprehensive activities of all aspects from precaution to recovery, not only of people but also of governments. In this context, the authors, members of the Faculty of Societal Safety Science, Kansai University, conducted many discussions and concluded that the major strategy is consistent independently of the type and magnitude of disaster or accident, being also the principle of the foundation of our faculty. The topics treated in this book are rather widely distributed but are well organized sequentially to provide a clear understanding of the principles of societal safety. In the first part the fundamental concepts of safety are discussed. The second part deals with risks in the societal and natural environment. Then follows, in the third part, a description of the quantitative estimation of risk and its assessment and management. The fourth part is devoted to disaster prevention, mitigation, and recovery systems. The final, fifth part presents a future perspective of societal safety science. Thorough reading of this introductory volume of societal safety science provides a clear image of the issues. This is largely because the Japanese have suffered often from natural disasters and not only have gained much valuable information about disasters but also have accumulated a store of experience. We are still in the process of reconstruction from the Great East Japan earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident. This book is especially valuable therefore in studying the safety and security of people and their societies.

Thus their dynamics and trends that have endured and developed over the centuries call for a systematic scholarly exploration. For instance, in historical texts and contemporary social media alike preattentive engagement techniques are implemented by content producers in order to guide processing. Other manifestations of the multimodal and multilingual interplay involve orthographic aesthetics which encodes social evaluations and commentary of (linguistic) otherness in the late modernity, while visual diamorphs, brevigraphs and non-alphabetic symbols embody the prestige of medieval de luxe manuscripts. Bilingualism in contemporary social media is as purposeful and commercially devised a tool as the graphics and photos placed in blogs and vlogs by microinfluencers. The paper offers an approach that paves the way for generalisations and extension to cover further data representing other languages and periods.

    Description: Desire and Disunity explores the struggles of Christianising late ancient sexuality in the late Roman West. Through an examination of fourth to sixth century sermons, letters, laws, and treatises in Latin-speaking communities, the difficulties of late antique clerics in moving ascetically influenced sexual ideals into wider practice become evident. Western clerics faced challenges on several fronts: the dedication and devoutness of lay Christians varied, while the military-political upheavals of the fifth century created new challenges and opportunities for influencing one’s flock. Furthermore, Roman sexual norms continued to inform the thinking of many clerics and lay figures alike, even when in opposition to more scripturally based moral reasoning. Problems of bigamy, concubinage, sex work, incest, homosexual acts, adultery, and more troubled western Christian communities, with contradicting rules and traditions on what was acceptable and what was not. What reach did elite clerical perspectives on sexual norms have amongst the non-elite? How did clerics navigate tensions between the idealisation of Christian communal purity and the actions of congregants that fell short of these ideals? What influenced clerical perceptions of sex and how did they articulate these ideas to their audiences? Clerical sources of this time reflect these challenges as well as varying church attempts to reform the sex lives of their congregants – and, indeed, church failure in doing so.

Northern England was hit the hardest, exposing more than ever the extent of regional inequalities in health and wealth. Using original data analysis from a wide range of sources, this book demonstrates how COVID-19 has impacted the country unequally in terms of mortality, health care, mental health, and the economy. The book provides a striking empirical overview of the impact of the pandemic on regional inequalities and explores why the North fared worse. It sets out what needs to be learnt from the pandemic to prevent regional inequality growing and to reduce inequalities in health and wealth in the future.

    Description: Gathering together over 60 new and revised discussions of textual issues, this volume represents notorious problems in well-known texts from the classical era by authors including Horace, Ennius, and Vergil. A follow-up to Vegiliana: Critical Studies on the Texts of Publius Vergilius Maro (2017), the volume includes major contributions to the discussion of Horace’s Carmen IV 8 and IV 12, along with studies on Catullus Carmen 67 and Hadrian’s Animula vagula, as well as a new contribution on Livy’s text at IV 20 in connection with Cossus’s spolia opima, and on Vergil’s Aeneid 3. 147–152 and 11. 151–153. On Ennius, the author presents several new ideas on Ann. 42 Sk. and 220–22l, and in editing Horace, he suggests new principles for the critical apparatus and tries to find a balance by weighing both sides in several studies, comparing a conservative and a radical approach. Critica will be an important resource for students and scholars of Latin language and literature.

    Description: This book explores this developer’s dilemma or ‘Kuznetsian tension’ between structural transformation and income inequality. Developing countries are seeking economic development—that is, structural transformation—which is inclusive in the sense that it is broad-based and raises the income of all, especially the poor. Thus, inclusive economic growth requires steady, or even falling, income inequality if it is to maximize the growth of incomes at the lower end of the distribution. Yet, this is at odds with Simon Kuznets hypothesis that economic development tends to put upward pressure on income inequality, at least initially and in the absence of countervailing policies. The book asks: what are the types or ‘varieties’ of structural transformation that have been experienced in developing countries? What inequality dynamics are associated with each variety of structural transformation? And what policies have been utilized to manage trade-offs between structural transformation, income inequality, and inclusive growth? The book answers these questions using a comparative case study approach, contrasting nine developing countries while employing a common analytical framework and a set of common datasets across the case studies. The intended intellectual contribution of the book is to provide a comparative analysis of the relationship between structural transformation, income inequality, and inclusive growth; to do so empirically at a regional and national level; and to draw conclusions from the cases on the varieties of structural transformation, their inequality dynamics, and the policies that have been employed to mediate the developer’s dilemma.

It features essays that combine academic argument with practical application of ethical principles. The contributors are experts in ethics and law. They address the challenges in the re-use of medical data of the deceased on a voluntary basis. This pioneering study looks at the many factors involved when individuals and organizations wish to share information for research, policy-making, and humanitarian purposes. Today, it is easy to donate blood or even organs, but it is virtually impossible to donate one’s own medical data. This is seen as ethically unacceptable. Yet, data donation can greatly benefit the welfare of our societies. This collection provides timely interdisciplinary research on biomedical big data. Topics include the ethics of data donation, the legal and regulatory challenges, and the current and future collaborations. Readers will learn about the ethical and regulatory challenges associated with medical data donations. They will also better understand the special nature of using deceased data for research purposes with regard to ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, and justice.
