    Beschreibung: Kirja haastaa pohtimaan sosiaali- ja terveysjohtamisen ajankohtaisia kysymyksiä, jotka asemoituvat toimialan uudistumiseen ja etenkin toimialan organisaatioiden johtamiseen. Teos käsittelee johtamiseen liittyviä uudistustarpeita, mutta myös johtamiseen linkittyviä teemoja kuten verkostoja, rakenteita, vuorovaikutusta, ammatillista asiantuntijuutta, tietokulttuuria, työn mielekkyyttä, kyvykkyyttä, monimuotoisuutta ja kokemuksellisuutta. Inhimillisesti tehokasta sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon johtamista pidetään helposti ristiriitaisena, koska inhimillinen ja tehokas koetaan usein toisilleen vastakkaisiksi ulottuvuuksiksi. Molemmille on kuitenkin nähtävissä synkroninen tilaus kehittyvässä sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollossa. Teoksessa tarjotaan oivalluksia, kuinka inhimillisyys ja tehokkuus voidaan samanaikaisesti huomioida sosiaali- ja terveysjohtamisessa. Kirja sopii sosiaali- ja terveysalan johtajille, johtajaksi hakeutuville tai johtamista opiskeleville. Kirja koostuu mielenkiintoisista luvuista, joita ovat kirjoittaneet alan tutkijat eri tutkimuslaitoksista painottaen myös käytännön antia johtamiselle. Kirja on syntynyt Työsuojelurahaston, Lapin ja Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirien rahoittamassa tutkimuksessa.

    Beschreibung: City as a Stage explores the diverse ways in which modern cities of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries presented and projected themselves, especially by staging major urban events, which have often been interpreted as major local and national turning points. In particular, the book discusses how cities were imagined through the prism provided by other cities, major events, as well as alternative pasts and futures. How –with admiration, indifference or contestation– did various urban actors engage with the city as a stage? The book paints a multifaceted picture of the history of urban events and town twinning, while at the same illustrating how students and travellers experienced cities such as Berlin, Rome, Helsinki, and Tampere. As for individual urban events, Stockholm’s General Art and Industrial Exposition of 1897, Helsinki’s 400th anniversary of 1950, and the Moscow Youth Festival of 1957 are all given their own chapter.

    Beschreibung: Finnish psychiatric practice has been heavily based on institutionalization, and mental hospitals have played important cultural and historical roles in Finland. Our multidisciplinary research focuses on the bodily, spatial, affective, and multisensory aspects of the memories of patients, relatives, staff, and their children. The memories were collected and archived in the Finnish Literature Society in 2014–2015. These 92 written pieces cover the period from the 1930s to the 2010s. They reflect significant changes in Finnish psychiatry and provide crucial insights into the various meanings of mental hospitals in people’s lives, and the social and cultural forces that shape attitudes to and ideas about mental health problems, psychiatric care, and service users today. Drawing on our backgrounds in history, artistic research, and visual, cultural and literary studies, we provide new ways of reading and interpreting the memories and experiences in psychiatry. The study discusses memory, mental hospitals as lived spaces, the history of Finnish psychiatry and the relation between the memories of the different groups of writers. The chapters approach memories from the perspectives of affects and atmospheres, violence and abuse, everyday life at the hospital in the 1930s, feelings of fear and safety in the memories of the children of the staff, and the historically and culturally contingent tensions between hospitals and homes.

    Beschreibung: Songs and writings: oral and literary cultures in early-modern Finland renews the understanding of exchange between the learned culture of clergymen and the culture of commoners, or “folk”. What happened when the Reformation changed the position of the oral vernacular language to literary and ecclesiastical, and when folk beliefs seem to have become an object for more intensive surveillance and correction? How did clergymen understand and use the versatile labels of popular belief, paganism, superstition and Catholic fermentation? Why did they choose particular song languages, poetic modes and melodies for their Lutheran hymns and literary poems, and why did they avoid oral poetics in certain contexts while accentuating it in others? How were the hagiographical traditions representing the international medieval literary or “great” tradition adapted to “small” folk traditions, and how did they persist and change after the Reformation? What happened to the cult of the Virgin Mary in local oral traditions? The first Finnish 16th-century reformers admired the new Germanic models of Lutheran congregational hymns and avoided the Finnic vernacular Kalevala-metre idiom, while their successors picked up many vernacular traits, most notably alliteration, in their ecclesiastical poetry and hymns. Over the following centuries, the new features introduced via new Lutheran hymns such as accentual metres, end-rhymes and strophic structures were infusing into oral folk poetry, although this took place also via secular oral and literary routes. On the other hand, seventeenth-century scholars cultivated a new academic interest in what they understood as “ancient Finnish poetry”. The book has an extensive English Summary for the international readership.

The history of childhood is a vibrant, multidisciplinary field that incorporates a rich variety of methodological approaches developed in disciplines across the social sciences and humanities, including archaeology, education, ethnology, literature, and history. The volume presents a collection of chapters that engage a range of different research traditions and employ different research material, conceptual tools, and methods of analysis for the historical study of childhood. In doing so, the volume attends to issues specific to the study of children and childhood, such as those related to research ethics and the theoretical complexities of defining ‘the child’ and ‘childhood’. While the central focus is on the history of childhood in Finland, the volume also includes international and transnational cases, contexts, and perspectives.

    Beschreibung: This edited volume discusses multiple job holding as part of Finnish working life. The articles in this book examine this little researched phenomenon through a wide range of empirical data. Based on Statistics Finland's register data, different ways of combining jobs are classified. Interview material sheds light on the conditions for holding multible jobs. A new perspective is provided by the chaos theory of careers. According to the results of the study, very different paths lead to becoming a multiple job holder. The combination of jobs is influenced by the life path and interests of the individual, as well as by constraints and opportunities available. Motives can also be linked to professional networks, decisions made by immediate family, coincidences or whims. This book helps to understand the diversity of ways of working. At the same time, it illustrates the challenges faced by those who work multiple jobs as they try to operate within simpler models and categorisations of labour. It is essential reading for anyone interested in the changing nature of work, especially researchers, students and policy-makers.

    Beschreibung: Muuttuvat suomalaiset äänimaisemat (Transforming Finnish Soundscapes, eds Heikki Uimonen, Meri Kytö & Kaisa Ruohonen) is a collection of research essays and texts that study the sonic environment and how it is experienced. Soundscapes related to time, place and the everyday shape our perception of the present and the past. Sounds can be pleasant and beautiful, pacing the day or year, annoying, boring and everything in between. The theme of transforming soundscapes combines the research essays in the publication. The essays draw from various disciplines and methodologies: media studies, anthropological field work and sensory observation, textual analysis and close reading, folkloristics, archeoacoustics and music studies. In turn, the texts gathered via a writing competition show how sounds can be listened to both analytically and aesthetically, connecting them to local, national and transnational cultures and histories pondering what sounds mean to the listeners and how they influence the soundscape they live in. The study is a revisit to the One Hundred Finnish Soundscapes project (2006).

Aikaan, paikkaan, arkeen ja juhlaan liittyvä äänimaisema muovaa nykypäiväämme ja rakentaa menneisyyttämme. Äänet ovat miellyttäviä ja kauniita, vuorokautta ja vuodenkiertoa rytmittäviä, häiritseviä, tylsiä ja sekä kaikkea näiden väliltä. Muuttuvien äänimaisemien tematiikka yhdistää myös kirjan tutkimusartikkeleita. Tutkimuksellisesti ne nojaavat eri tieteentraditioihin ja menetelmiin: mediatutkimukseen ja -analyysiin, antropologiseen kenttätallennukseen ja aistinvaraiseen havainnointiin, tekstianalyysiin ja lähilukuun, folkloristiikkaan, arkeoakustiikkaan ja musiikintutkimukseen. Kirjoituskilpailussa kerätyt tekstit puolestaan osoittavat, kuinka ääniä on mahdollista kuunnella analyyttisesti ja esteettisesti, asettaa ne osaksi alueellista, paikallista, valtakunnallista tai ylirajaista kulttuurihistoriallista tarkastelua ja pohtia, mitä ääni kuuntelijalleen merkitsee ja miten hän äänimaisemaansa vaikuttaa. Tutkimus on jatkoa Sata suomalaista äänimaisemaa -hankkeelle (2006).

    Beschreibung: Social and the ecological welfare should be taken as the main aim of all politics. This is the message of this book titled The Enchantment of Social Policy. Basic social security system needs to be rebuilt and grounded on the universal basic income that everyone can top up by participating to the society in different ways. Universal basic income can be seen as a mean to recognize all valuable participation to for example voluntary work or care of elderly people. In conditions of high unemployment, this kind of universalistic social security would weaken the nexus between employment and welfare. It would promote a society and culture that is less dependent on the exploitation of natural resources. This book describes building blocks that are needed to reconstitute the enchantment of social policy – the utopian that we should collectively pursue.
    Beschreibung: Sosiaalipolitiikan Lumon kirjoittajilla on viesti. Mielestämme politiikan keskeiseksi tavoitteeksi tulisi asettaa sosiaalinen ja ekologinen hyvinvointi. Tätä tavoitetta kohti tulisi kulkea universalismin periaattein ja kansalaisten perusturva, oli sitten kyse työllisistä tai työttömistä, nuorista tai iäkkäistä, kantaväestöstä tai maahanmuuttajista, tulisi rakentaa kaikille yhtäläisen perustulon pohjalle. Tätä perusturvaa jokainen voisi täydentää ansiotuloilla ja omaehtoisella, sosiaaliturvassa kompensoitavalla osallistumisella yhteiskunnalliseen työhön kuten vapaaehtoistyöhön, harrastusryhmien ohjaamiseen, omaisen tai lasten hoivaan. Tämä antaisi arvon monenlaiselle hyödylliselle toimelle, joka nyt jää yhteiskunnassa tunnistamatta. Tällainen sosiaaliturva ottaisi lähtökohdakseen uuden ihmisarvon ja loisi luonnonvaroja säilyttävää ja niukkaan materian käyttöön perustuvaa kulttuuria ja taloutta. Sosiaalipolitiikalla olisi tällaisessa politiikassa aktiivinen ja yhteiskunnan taloudellista ja sosiaalista kehitystä vauhdittava rooli, ja kansalaiset olisi kutsuttu hyvinvoinnin aktiivisiksi tekijöiksi.

In Finland, most discussion on the welfare state's condition has focused on stabilizing the public-sector's finances. However, more essential for the future of the welfare state is its' social foundation, meaning people’s experiences of fairness, equality and reliability of the society as well as the welfare state's capability of taking care of the most vulnerable groups of people. A functional welfare state combines economic stability with the social foundation. However in the mid 2010s there are cracks in the social foundation of the welfare state . In this book the cracks of welfare state's social foundation are analysed from the perspective of dependency on social security. Especially the Finns' attitudes and political divisions, policies, the length of customership of last-resort social security, the functionality of service and income transfer systems, social segmentation created by breadlines and coping on the last-resort social security are observed. The book is meant for all interested in the condition and future of the welfare state. It is suitable as a textbook in universities and universities of applied sciences. The editor of the book, Juho Saari, is Professor in social and health policy at the University of Tampere and part-time Professor in welfare sociology at the University of Eastern Finland. He has also a docent at the University of Helsinki, at the University of Turku and at the University of Jyväskylä. "
    Beschreibung: "Suurin osa hyvinvointivaltion tilasta käydystä yhteiskuntapoliittisesta keskustelusta on kohdentunut julkisen talouden vakauttamiseen. Kuitenkin keskeisempää hyvinvointivaltion tulevaisuudelle on sen sosiaalinen perusta, eli ihmisten kokemukset yhteiskunnan reiluudesta, tasa-arvoisuudesta ja luotettavuudesta sekä hyvinvointivaltion kyky kantaa vastuu kaikkein haavoittuvimmassa asemassa olevista ryhmistä. Toimiva hyvinvointivaltio sovittaa yhteen taloudellisen kestävyyden ja sosiaalisen perustan. Kuitenkin 2010-luvun puolivälin hyvinvointivaltion sosiaalisessa perustassa on halkeamia. Tässä teoksessa analysoidaan hyvinvointivaltion sosiaalisen perustan halkeamia ja murroksia sosiaaliturvariippuvuuden näkökulmasta. Erityisesti tarkastelemme siihen liittyviä suomalaisten asenteita ja poliittisia jakolinjoja, politiikkalinjauksia, viimesijaisen turvan asiakkuuksien kestoa, palvelu- ja tulonsiirtojärjestelmien toimivuutta, leipäjonojen luomia yhteiskunnallisia jakolinjoja ja ihmisten selviytymistä viimesijaisella turvalla. Tulevaisuuden maakunta- ja sote-uudistus jatkaa muutoksen aikaa ja voimistaa aikaisemmin alkanutta kehitystä ottamalla asiakkaat, yksityiset toimijat ja markkinat mukaan palvelujen kehittämiseen ja tuottamiseen. Markkinoiden luominen ja huoltaminen (ALIS) -hankkeen tavoitteena oli laajentaa ymmärrystä sosiaali- ja terveysmarkkinoiden toiminnasta sekä markkinoilla toimivien motiiveista, tarpeista ja toimintalogiikoista. Nyt jos koskaan on tarvetta tiedolle, joka käsittelee julkishallinnon roolia, toimintaa ja suhdetta markkinoihin yleisesti sekä palvelujen järjestämisen ja hankinnan tapoja, eli suhdetta yrityksiin ja asiakkaisiin erityisesti. Sote-palvelut markkinoilla -teos kokoaa yhteen ALIS-hankkeen keskeiset havainnot ja johtopäätökset. Kirja jakaantuu neljään osakokonaisuuteen, jotka koostuvat itsenäisistä tieteellisistä artikkeleista. Ensimmäinen osa käsittelee kuntia sote-markkinoiden toimijoina ja hahmottelee uuden elinvoimakunnan toimintamallia. Toinen osa avaa osallisuuden ja asiakaslähtöisyyden teemoja osana palvelujen kehittämistä. Kolmannessa osassa tarkastellaan hankintoja ja erityisesti tulosperusteista hankintaa, joka on verraten uusi palvelujen hankintatapa. Neljäs osa haastaa lukijaa markkinoiden laajempaan tarkasteluun astetta filosofisemmin ja liberalistisemmin. Kokonaisuudessaan teos tarjoaa monipuolisen näkymän sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluihin sekä -markkinoihin. ALIS-hanke toteutettiin vuosina 2013–2016 ja se rahoitettiin Tekesin Innovaatiot sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluissa -ohjelmasta. Hankkeen kohdekaupunkeina olivat Jyväskylä, Tampere ja Turku."
