Description: How will work be configured in the future? What new entities and values will emerge following the transformations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution? How decisive will worker participation be for the success of organizations? This book offers concrete experiences of 'creative' participation of workers and managers in companies committed to developing an intelligent organization. The first part of the book offers the contribution of workers, employees or managers who may also have negotiating roles in union bargaining, but who are above all committed to making everything work, offering opportunities that are able to regenerate processes and enhance workers. The second part contains reflections and proposals on how participation experiences can urge the academic world, trade unions, politics and the legislative system to deepen and take into account the new needs of work, in order to build a virtuous circle that supports companies and workers, management and participation in the complex challenges posed by innovation and the competitive world of production.

Description: This volume, born from the collaboration of thirty-four scholars and trade union representatives, has a dual purpose. Firstly, to propose the analysis and theses on the human and political meaning of work contained in Bruno Trentin’s main book La città del lavoro (2nd ed., Firenze University Press, 2014), in the current phase of social transformations and theoretical uncertainties. Secondly, to promote a reflection testing the book’s fertility and topicality in order to deepen the processes at work at the start of the 21st century, in the belief that the pages written in 1997 by one of the greatest representatives of the history of the CGIL represent a 'classic' of the socio-political thought of the 20th century. The emerging result is surprising in many ways, and corresponds to the extraordinary richness of Trentin’s project, as well as to the political and trade-unionist ability of its author.

Description: This volume was developed within the framework of the teaching course of Urban Sociology in which seminar activities had been planned to respond to a significant teaching demand: to show students the polyhedral nature of studies and research located within the discipline. At the same time, it was intended to highlight the common heuristic option, going beyond the first impression of a magmatic accumulation of research strands. By involving young researchers, the seminar activity thus was designed not to focus on a specific research topic to be explored in depth during the various scheduled classes but to draw attention to the explanatory value of the territorial dimension in understanding a multiplicity of social phenomena, even where this was not immediately evident and often not adequately recognized. The researches outlined in the volume have the merit of focusing on spatial and territorial aspects of the different social forms studied, contributing to the spatialization of sociological theory. In this reading, the territory emerges not just as a mere background and container for a set of social processes but a dimension socially structured by the forces in play and, at the same time, structuring them.

Description: Nature in the city represents a crucial topic in defining citizens' quality of life. With the rise of new climate and energy challenges aimed at greater environmental sustainability, this issue has taken a renewed centrality in the urban environment as well. Urban Nature in Paris is a text on the socio-political trends affecting urban space and its relationship with nature, here understood with reference to vegetalisation. Individualization, representation, and global competition are thus the main tendencies that characterize the processes and practices of urban greening. These trends are strongly linked, even if these links are not always evident and obvious. On the one hand there is individualization, conceived as a new scale within which we try to frame contemporary processes of citizen participation in the care of urban green space; on the other hand there is representation, as a means through which to capitalize on and valorize the fragmented and individualized actions of urban greening; and finally there is global competition, in which urban nature from a simple sphere of local public action, becomes an international political arena in which some cities seek to assume leadership. Starting with an analysis of the dynamics that have appeared in recent years in Paris, this volume seeks to make these trends visible, showing the emergence, evolutions, relationships, and consequences, of these processes of urban greening.

Description: Notable among the stylistic tools adopted by Dostoevskij to disseminate the values that he considered crucial for the moral revival of contemporary Russian society is the use of the aphorism. This article explores the origins of the renowned maxim “If you want to overcome the whole world, overcome yourself”, a phrase that recurs either in this form or with some variation in the literary and journalistic texts that Dostoyevsky authored towards the end of his life. His sources include Saint Augustine, Thomas à Kempis, and Prosper of Aquitaine.
