    Description: 〈P〉In the history of Czech linguistic theory and thought there is hardly a book more controversial than the grammar of Václav J. Rosa (1620-1689), Čechořečnost seu Grammatica Linguae Bohemicae. It appeared in 1672, two years after Comenius's death, at the beginning of the dark age (temno) which came to symbolize for the revivalist tradition, haunted as it was by the past, the decadence of Czech literature, culture and national spirit. Given this, Rosa's grammar (henceforth RG) was inevitably destined to acquire the stigma of the same degenerate qualities which corrupted the nation's very soul, ist language. The Sicily Region, with the ERDF Operational Programme 2014–2020, Action 1.1.5 for “Support for the technological advancement of companies through the financing of pilot lines and early product validation and large-scale demonstration actions”, has selected the Fake News project in the effort to support the technological development of tools to control information exchange on the Web to counter the phenomenon of disinformation.

    Learning Ontology Relations by Combining Corpus-Based Techniques and Reasoning on Data from Semantic Web Sources (2021)

    Description: The manual construction of formal domain conceptualizations (ontologies) is labor-intensive. Ontology learning, by contrast, provides (semi-)automatic ontology generation from input data such as domain text. This thesis proposes a novel approach for learning labels of non-taxonomic ontology relations. It combines corpus-based techniques with reasoning on Semantic Web data. Corpus-based methods apply vector space similarity of verbs co-occurring with labeled and unlabeled relations to calculate relation label suggestions from a set of candidates. A meta ontology in combination with Semantic Web sources such as DBpedia and OpenCyc allows reasoning to improve the suggested labels. An extensive formal evaluation demonstrates the superior accuracy of the presented hybrid approach.

    Description: This volume reports on the main results of the research project Inclusive epistemologies and practices of out-of-school English learning. The study reacts to low attainment levels in English as a foreign language among socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. The contributors to this volume research teenagers’ existing practices of using and learning English out of school time and implement new, inclusive, nonformal English language educational initiatives. They evaluate the impact of the nonformal English language educational initiatives implemented and support their sustainability and transferability. The project embeds collaborative and arts-based methods into its methodology, fostering inclusive and creative educational practices and ways of knowing.

    Description: Projet en partage, partage sans projet ou partage comme projet　: quelle est la dimension sociale du projet　? Comment pense-t-on le partage avant le projet, quels acteurs sociaux y participent, quand en sont-ils absents　? C’est sur ces éléments que se penche cet ouvrage qui traite de projets urbains, de catégories d’acteurs, d’implications participatives et d’effets sociaux localisés. Et quels effets ? Effets de sens, effets de pouvoir, effets sociaux et décalages effectifs entre objectifs affichés et réalités sociales parfois tenaces. Au nord comme au sud, pour mettre en œuvre le projet les moyens sont variés, les outils sont divers, de la suggestion à la contrainte, des « bonnes pratiques » aux processus autoritaires. Aucun projet présenté dans les textes de cet ouvrage n’inclut parfaitement la participation à la totalité du processus. Certains l’intègrent à leur méthodologie, avec des résultats plus ou moins effectifs mais des intentions claires, des acteurs identifiés et une temporalité bien définie. D’autres projets qui se présentent comme partagés sont bien moins formalisés, informels voire déguisés et font parfois l’objet de contestations et de contre-propositions. Dans tous les cas, c’est à l’issue du projet de territoire que l’on en mesure réellement la dimension sociale, l’objectif visé par ces projets n’étant pas nécessairement un espace partagé. En présentant des projets de natures différentes et à plusieurs échelles (requalification de l’espace public, amélioration de l’habitat, renouvellement urbain…), les sept chapitres de cet ouvrage abordent ainsi des enjeux variés de mixité sociale et de gentrification, de dé-paupérisation, de préservation de l’entre-soi et d’éviction brutale de certains segments de population.

    Description: Ludwig Wittgensteins «Bemerkungen über die Farben» gelten als äußerst schwieriger Text. Das vorliegende Buch führt Schritt für Schritt an die Themen und Problemstellungen der Farbbemerkungen Wittgensteins heran und liefert umfangreiche Erläuterungen zu den wichtigsten Textpassagen. Dies ist bemerkenswert, weil das bruchstückhafte Textmaterial aus den beiden letzten Lebensjahren Wittgensteins eine klare Struktur vermissen lässt, die darin aufgeworfenen Fragen häufig befremdlich anmuten und größtenteils ohne Antwort bleiben. So ist es wenig verwunderlich, dass bis jetzt keine umfassende philosophische Studie zu den «Bemerkungen über die Farben» zur Verfügung steht. Das Buch von Frederik A. Gierlinger füllt erstmalig diese Lücke in der Rezeptionsgeschichte.

    Description: Edmond Jabès was one of the most intriguing Jewish thinkers of the 20th century – a poet for the public and a Kabbalist for those who read his work more closely. This book turns his writings into a ground-breaking philosophical achievement: thinking which is manifestly indebted to the Kabbalah, but in the post-religious and post-Shoah world. Loss, exile, negativity, God’s absence, writing and Jewishness are the main signposts of the negative ontology which this book offers as an interpretation of Jabès’ work. On the basis of it, the book examines the nature of the miraculous encounter between Judaism and philosophy which occurred in the 20th century. Modern Jewish philosophy is a re-constructed tradition which adapts the intellectual and spiritual legacy of Judaism to answer purely modern questions.
