    Beschreibung: The study scrutinizes the effects of language awareness on teachers’ conceptualization of language variation. Teacher language awareness has been discussed mostly for the case of English and with regard to grammar, and is defined as being determined by knowledge and reflexion (Andrews 2008, Svalberg 2012). This study aims at examining the reach of the concept for other languages, here Dutch, and for other terrains, in this case, language variation, thus stretching the application also into the realm of language ideology. According to Kroskrity (2006, 2016), language ideologies are (1) not knowledge but ‘‘notions’, ‘beliefs’ or ‘ideas’, which (2) are about language, the role(s) of language and its nature, and which (3) are constructed by individuals and groups in interaction with each other to (4) rationalize and justify social relations. In this linguistic-ethnographic study, a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with teachers of Dutch at eight European universities shows that knowledge and reflection play a considerable role for how teachers conceptualize language variation in class. Overall, four different types of teacher language awareness came to the fore, based on different interplays of both knowledge and reflection: standard language ideology alive, strong focus on prescription, doubting and linguistic insecurity and dynamic equilibrium. The overall results show the importance of teacher language awareness in language classes and help to boil down the vague notion of language awareness on language variation to two major defining factors, namely knowledge and reflection. Further, the study shows that language classrooms may be seen as ‘ideological sites’ (Silverstein (1979, 1998)), in which language ideology may be either reproduced or deconstructed, depending on the language awareness of the teacher. The consequences of the study for language teacher education are a plea for an informed, reflected, differentiated and integrative treatment of language variation in language class.
    Beschreibung: Taalvariatie stelt docenten voor een bijzondere uitdaging: de vraag naar wat (nog net) kan en naar wat fout is. Die vraag is vaak niet zo makkelijk te beantwoorden. Hoe taaldocenten omgaan met taalvariatie, staat in deze sociolinguïstische studie centraal. Met een etnografische methode slaagt Truus De Wilde erin te achterhalen hoe docenten reageren op taalvariatie en analyseert ze achterliggende motieven. Taalideologieën over wat een standaardtaal is en zou moeten zijn, liggen aan de basis van deze analyse. Op basis van deze ideologieën worden vier archetypes geconstrueerd. De vele citaten uit interviews illustreren de archetypes en wijzen op de centrale rol van taalbewustzijn.

    Beschreibung: This book is the most comprehensive Dutch-language reference work on Russian grammar. It is not primarily intended for beginners, but for users who have a decent basic knowledge of Russian. One can think of advanced students or course participants. The book is also written for users with a more than superficial interest in Russian. The topics are covered in depth and much attention is paid to making connections that help the user see the language as a coherent whole and not as a collection of separate facts. The book is basically laid out as one would expect from this genre (non-Russian-language grammars of Russian): first a chapter on writing and pronunciation, then the theory of form, broken down by word type, and the chapters covering meaning, usage and sentence structure. The Russian verb is notoriously complex, both in form and in meaning and usage. This grammar contains, after the form theory of the verb, separate chapters on meaning and usage of the various forms.

    Beschreibung: This book presents a classic legal study of banning organisations in Dutch law. One of the main research questions is when, according to our law, an organisation is right for a ban. Must the organisation commit criminal offences, or are there other starting points for banning it? Another key question is what kind of organisations can be banned. Are, for example, political parties and denominations excluded, given the special function of these organisations in our society? Other important questions are how the procedure works, which body is authorised to ban and how legal protection against a ban is designed. In answering these questions, the author focuses on the fundamental question of the extent to which the regulation complies with the requirements arising from the freedom of association enshrined in our Constitution and treaties binding under international law. By no means all regulations meet these requirements. With a comparative law analysis of German and French law, the author makes recommendations to improve our prohibition regime on these issues

    Beschreibung: To improve the quality of care, guidance methodologies can be very helpful for supervisors, practitioners and other stakeholders. A counseling methodology provides an employee with a shared view and concrete tools to act more systematically. This enhances acting skills and helps to better respond to specific needs and wishes of clients. This makes working according to methods one of the ways for professionalization. But what exactly is a counseling methodology? Which ones exist in the Netherlands? And for which target groups have they been developed?     Beschreibung: De geschiedenis van het beleg en ontzet van Groningen in 1672 spreekt nog altijd tot de verbeelding. Er was sprake van spanning, tragiek, sensatie en blijdschap. Er waren helden, verliezers en vooral veel onnodige slachtoffers. Nadat vijandelijke troepen grote delen van Nederland hadden overmeesterd, rukten Keuls-Munsterse soldaten op naar Groningen. Onder leiding van hun bisschoppen vuurden zij wekenlang bommen en granaten op de stad af. Dat was tevergeefs, want Groningen hield stand. Zo werd het verzet in het noorden van het land een keerpunt tijdens het zogeheten Ramp- of Bisschopsjaar. De herdenking van 350 jaar ontzet van Groningen was in 2022 aanleiding om nieuwe invalshoeken te verkennen. Dit boek bevat vier bijdragen waarin zowel de geopolitieke en militaire context als de beleving van de belegering en het ontzet aan bod komen. Veel aandacht is er voor de eigentijdse bronnen: wat vertellen ons kranten, brieven, prenten en pamfletten uit 1672 over wat zich in dit jaar in Groningen afspeelde? Speciale belangstelling is er voor de rol van de universiteit tijdens het militaire conflict. Haar studenten droegen bij aan het verzet dat resulteerde in de vrijheid die na afloop gevierd kon worden.

    Beschreibung: Crossing borders is a perilous undertaking, as this time of migrations and pandemics teaches us. Also for language-related cultural goods such as literary works, crossing those borders requires a lot of planning, strategic insights and a love for language and literature. After all, on their journey abroad, books bring with them other stories and cultural images, which in turn are filtered, if not manipulated, during the processes of selection and reception in the language of their destination. The study of this image (de)formation is therefore crucial in research into literary transfer. The authors of this collection respond to this by tracing the route of Dutch literature to Southern Europe and studying the image of Flanders and the Netherlands as expressed in translations through a combination of imagological and sociological translational findings. The conclusions in this collection show that the study of image formation in literary transfer can break through stereotypes and increase cultural awareness: crossing borders means pushing boundaries.

Ook voor taalgebonden cultuurgoederen zoals literaire werken vergt het oversteken van die grenzen veel planning, strategische inzichten en een liefde voor taal en literatuur. Op hun reis naar het buitenland brengen boeken immers andere verhalen en culturele beelden mee, die op hun beurt ge lterd, zo niet gemanipuleerd, worden tijdens de processen van selectie en receptie in de taal van hun bestemming. De studie van die beeld(ver)vorming is daarom cruciaal in het onderzoek naar literaire transfer. De auteurs van deze bundel spelen hierop in door het parcours van de Nederlandstalige literatuur naar Zuid-Europa te traceren en via een combinatie van imagologische en vertaalsociologische bevindingen de beeldvorming van Vlaanderen en Nederland te bestuderen zoals die tot uiting komt in vertalingen. De conclusies in deze bundel tonen aan dat de studie van beeldvorming in literaire transfer stereotypen kan doorbreken en het culturele bewustzijn kan verhogen: grenzen overschrijden is grenzen verleggen.
