Wolfgang Spyra Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus, Germany The demilitarization and conversion of military properties wor- wide has been a topic of growing importance since the end of the Cold War. The slowing of the arms race brought on by weapons treaties and relaxed tensions between NATO and Warsaw Pact nations caused sto- piles of conventional weapons to become superfluous. The need to process and dispose of such weapons began more quickly in NATO countries. This demilitarization process began shortly after the reunification of Germany and was largely completed by the mid to late 1990’s. The remaining process, no small task in itself, of converting lands formerly used by the military into safe and environmentally acceptable landscapes may continue for decades to come. Due to a lack of resources and technology, the process of demilitarization in the former Warsaw Pact countries has launched more slowly. In 2002 both Georgia and Moldova finished projects which destroyed their stocks of liquid ballistic missile components. Both these projects were carried out through the cooperative support of trans-national organizations, private contractors, and research institutions. The Republic of Azerbaijan now finds itself at the beginning of its demilitarization process. Stored at the country’s military depots are over 2000 tons of missile fuels, oxidizer, and chemical additives. This hazardous waste is kept in tanks intended only for temporary transport and storage.

    Description: This open access book makes a case for extending logic beyond its traditional boundaries, to encompass not only statements but also also questions. The motivations for this extension are examined in detail. It is shown that important notions, including logical answerhood and dependency, emerge as facets of the fundamental notion of entailment once logic is extended to questions, and can therefore be treated with the logician’s toolkit, including model-theoretic constructions and proof systems. After motivating the enterprise, the book describes how classical propositional and predicate logic can be made inquisitive—i.e., extended conservatively with questions—and what the resulting logics look like in terms of meta-theoretic properties and proof systems. Finally, the book discusses the tight connections between inquisitive logic and dependence logic.

    Description: Écrire la crise ce n'est pas la raconter. C'est montrer comment elle modifie nos manières de raconter. Encore faut-il s'entendre sur le mot lui-même car peut-on appeler crise (du grec « krisis » : changement brutal) cette lente dissolution des valeurs de la modernité qui nous fait entrer dans un « après » informulable, sinon par le terme souvent controversé de postmodernité ? Au-delà des polémiques que suscite cette notion, il s'agit ici de considérer le postmoderne non pas comme une régression anti-moderne mais comme la prise de conscience d'un certain nombre de dévoiements du projet moderne qui nous projettent dans une ère de turbulence dont les arts, et en particulier la littérature, portent la marque. Ainsi considéré, le postmodernisme n'est ni une école, ni une avant-garde. Il témoigne avant tout d'une crise de culture à la transition des deux siècles, qui s'est transformée en culture de la crise, de sorte que, non seulement la pensée, la science et les arts, s'en trouvent affectés, mais de manière plus profonde encore, la société et l'individu.     Description: In recent years, there has been an increased interest in exploring the connections between various disciplines of mathematics and theoretical physics such as representation theory, algebraic geometry, quantum field theory, and string theory. One of the challenges of modern mathematical physics is to understand rigorously the idea of quantization. The program of quantization by branes, which comes from string theory, is explored in the book. This open access book provides a detailed description of the geometric approach to the representation theory of the double affine Hecke algebra (DAHA) of rank one. Spherical DAHA is known to arise from the deformation quantization of the moduli space of SL(2,C) flat connections on the punctured torus. The authors demonstrate the study of the topological A-model on this moduli space and establish a correspondence between Lagrangian branes of the A-model and DAHA modules. The finite-dimensional DAHA representations are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with the compact Lagrangian branes. Along the way, the authors discover new finite-dimensional indecomposable representations. They proceed to embed the A-model story in an M-theory brane construction, closely related to the one used in the 3d/3d correspondence; as a result, modular tensor categories behind particular finite-dimensional representations with PSL(2,Z) action are identified. The relationship of Coulomb branch geometry and algebras of line operators in 4d N = 2* theories to the double affine Hecke algebra is studied further by using a further connection to the fivebrane system for the class S construction. The book is targeted at experts in mathematical physics, representation theory, algebraic geometry, and string theory. This is an open access book.

Par routine ou par paresse, on pense en premier lieu à l’irruption de Martin Luther et des autres protagonistes de la Réforme protestante et à la scission de la chrétienté latine. Mais toute l’Europe n’est pas chrétienne : les temps modernes s’ouvrent avec l’expulsion, les conversions forcées et la persécution des juifs et des musulmans dans la péninsule Ibérique de la Reconquista. Et il y a une Europe ottomane, elle aussi pluri-religieuse. L’expérience européenne des conflits religieux se fait en outre dans un horizon global de la rencontre avec d’autres religions et civilisations où les Européens découvrent leur propre barbarie. Celle-ci s’exprime dans les atrocités des guerres civiles, des guerres de religion en France à l’action des troupes de Cromwell en Irlande. Partant de la pluralité religieuse de l’espace européen, les affrontements de la première modernité se lisent comme un douloureux processus d’apprentissage d’accepter et de gérer cette pluralité irréductible. Ainsi naît une notion et forme historique, politique et culturelle de l’Europe qui intègre dans sa constitution la conflictualité religieuse. Les contributions ici réunies analysent ce processus couvrant tout l’espace européen. Cet ouvrage est né de la collaboration d’un groupe d’historien(ne)s européen(ne)s spécialistes de ces questions et montre la richesse du paysage historiographique européen.

Aus dem Doppelauftrag von Schule, Persönlichkeitsbildung und Enkulturation wird zunächst ein Interaktionsmodell für Bildung und Erziehung abgeleitet. Das Problem der Inhaltsauswahl jeder Fachdidaktik wird mit einem Modell zur Verknüpfung von Allgemeiner Didaktik und Fachwissenschaften gelöst. Darin wird die Technikphilosophie als fehlende Bezugswissenschaft identifiziert, um Aussagen zum Wesen der Technik zu ermöglichen. Durch die Analyse technikphilosophischer Ansätze wird der Technikbegriff um eine ästhetische und eine Sinn- und Wertperspektive erweitert. Aus diesem Technikbegriff ergeben sich pädagogische Perspektiven für den Technikunterricht, die schließlich über einen Kulturreihenansatz zu einem Kern Technischer Allgemeinbildung führen. Durch den Kulturreihenansatz wird begründet umrissen, wie die kulturelle Bedeutung der Technik bildungswirksam werden kann.

The book represents the warning process as a pathway linking observations to weather forecasts to hazard forecasts to socio-economic impact forecasts to warning messages to the protective decision, via a set of five bridges that cross the divides between the relevant organisations and areas of expertise. Each bridge represents the communication, translation and interpretation of information as it passes from one area of expertise to another and ultimately to the decision maker, who may be a professional or a member of the public. The authors explore the partnerships upon which each bridge is built, assess the expertise and skills that each partner brings and the challenges of communication between them, and discuss the structures and methods of working that build effective partnerships. The book is ordered according to the “first mile” paradigm in which the decision maker comes first, and then the production chain through the warning and forecast to the observations is considered second. This approach emphasizes the importance of co-design and co-production throughout the warning process. The book is targeted at professionals and trainee professionals with a role in the warning chain, i.e. in weather services, emergency management agencies, disaster risk reduction agencies, risk management sections of infrastructure agencies. It argues that the full digitisation of society sharply accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic has added extreme complexity to the world, conclusively exposing the inadequacy of our current model of knowledge creation. Addressing many of the different ways in which reality has been transformed by technology – the pervasive adoption of big data, the fetishisation of algorithms and automation, and the digitalisation of education and research – Viola examines how the rigid conceptualisation in disciplines’ division and competition is complicit of promoting a narrative which has paired computational methods with exactness and neutrality whilst stigmatising consciousness and criticality as carriers of biases and inequality. Taking the humanities as a focal point, the author retraces schisms in the field between the humanities, the digital humanities and critical digital humanities; these are embedded, she argues, within old dichotomies: sciences vs humanities, digital vs non-digital and authentic vs non-authentic. Through the analysis of personal use cases and exploring a variety of applied contexts such as digital heritage practices, digital linguistic injustice, critical digital literacy and critical digital visualisation, the book shows a third way: knowledge creation in the digital.

By focusing on 12 of the largest sending countries to the EU, the book tackles the issue of the multiple areas of sending state intervention towards migrant populations. Two “mirroring” chapters are dedicated to each of the 12 non-EU states analysed (Argentina, China, Ecuador, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey). One chapter focuses on access to social benefits across five core policy areas (health care, unemployment, old-age pensions, family benefits, guaranteed minimum resources) by discussing the social protection policies that non-EU countries offer to national residents, non-national residents, and non-resident nationals. The second chapter examines the role of key actors (consulates, diaspora institutions and home country ministries and agencies) through which non-EU sending countries respond to the needs of nationals abroad. The volume additionally includes two chapters focusing on the peculiar case of the United Kingdom after the Brexit referendum. Overall, this volume contributes to ongoing debates on migration and the welfare state in Europe by showing how non-EU sending states continue to play a role in third country nationals’ ability to deal with social risks. It presents a revisionist, micro history of the studio and its longevity during a particularly turbulentperiod, explaining Pinewood’s survival at a time when other major film studios such as Denham closed. This book also provides contemporary insights into how Pinewood’s technologies, practices, and filmmaking methods compared to Hollywood’s. Thirteen films produced in1946–47 are analysed in detail, tracking how economic pressures engendered many creative techniques and innovative technologies. Prevailing cultures of management and labour organization are foregrounded, as well as insights into being a studio employee.     Description: Ce livre est un hommage à Jean Baudouin, professeur émérite de science politique qui achève sa carrière après quatre décennies d’enseignement et de recherche à l’université Rennes 1. Après une introduction qui présente son itinéraire et son apport à la science politique française, ses collègues, amis et élèves abordent les grands domaines et les principales thématiques qui ont occupé sa pensée. Les contributions de ce volume s’organisent autour de trois parties. La première, qui porte sur les radicalités politiques, explore principalement le phénomène communiste, envisagé dans ses dimensions nationale et mondiale, tout en offrant également de nouvelles perspectives sur les évolutions récentes de l’extrême gauche et l’engagement frontiste. La deuxième partie, centrée sur la question de la démocratie libérale, associe l’étude d’auteurs classiques à un questionnement conceptuel qui vient éclairer l’actualité la plus brûlante concernant la démocratie, la place du religieux ou encore la situation de l’Union européenne. La troisième partie vient enfin contribuer à l’étude de l’engagement des intellectuels en politique, en attirant l’attention sur des figures aussi différentes que Charles Fourier, Louis Aragon, Francis Delaisi, Emmanuel Mounier, Michel Foucault ou les intellectuels maoïstes. L’ensemble se clôt sur la reprise d’un article important de Jean Baudouin, datant de 1997 et devenu aujourd’hui introuvable, précisant la conception du politique défendue par ce professeur au positionnement singulier. Cet ouvrage entend ainsi offrir au lecteur une vue panoramique sur un courant dynamique de la science politique française – la théorie politique – dont il a été l’un des principaux animateurs et dont il reste l’un des plus éminents représentants. Cet ouvrage rassemble les contributions de Jean Baudouin, Philippe Bénéton, David Bisson, Goulven Boudic, Daniel Bourmaud, Philippe Braud, Bernard Bruneteau, Sébastien Caré, Gwendal Châton, Stéphane Courtois, Jean-Marie Donégani, Michel Hastings, François Hourmant, Marc Lazar, Arnauld Leclerc, Jacques Le Goff, Pascal Perrineau, Philippe Portier, Philippe Raynaud et Thuriane Séveno.     Description: This book discusses and analyses global policies and practices aimed at promoting equity in higher education participation and attainment. Although the massification of higher education systems has facilitated the participation of students from deprived backgrounds, socioeconomic inequalities persist in access to the most prestigious institutions and programmes. Privileged students benefit from a number of advantages in the competition for selective and scarce places: access to information, lower aversion to debt, higher expectations, better previous schooling and higher academic achievement. The chapters present a critical analysis of equity policies in different countries – with or without affirmative action policies, within a context of neoliberal policies or within a social democratic model – and the reasons why they have failed to promote equity and fairness, preventing students from achieving their full educational potential. This is an open access book.

In developing a new framework for analysis and discussion of green marketing, the authors argue that corporate environmental rhetoric can be harnessed to contribute to climate transition and a more sustainable market economy. The work explores the transformative power inherent in green promises and sets a vision of what green marketers should strive for. Engaging with selected research on organizational theory, the authors negotiate the conflicting paradigms of rhetorical theory and their relation to the study of corporate legitimation practices.     Description: This book explores the interrelation between diversity in migrants’ internal relations and their experience of inequality in local and global contexts. Taking the case of Hamburg-based Iranians, it traces evaluation processes in ties between professionals – artists and entrepreneurs – since the 1930s, examining migrants’ potential to act upon hierarchical structures. Building on long-term ethnographic fieldwork and archival work, the book centers on differentiation, combining a diversity study with a focus on locality, with a transnational migration study, analysing strategies of capital creation and anthropological value theory. The analysis of migrants’ agency tackles questions of independence and cooperation in kinship, associations, transnational entrepreneurship and cultural events within the context of the position of Germany and Iran in the global politico-economic landscape.     Description: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book addresses the age-old problem of infinite regresses in epistemology. How can we ever come to know something if knowing requires having good reasons, and reasons can only be good if they are backed by good reasons in turn? The problem has puzzled philosophers ever since antiquity, giving rise to what is often called Agrippa's Trilemma. The current volume approaches the old problem in a provocative and thoroughly contemporary way. Taking seriously the idea that good reasons are typically probabilistic in character, it develops and defends a new solution that challenges venerable philosophical intuitions and explains why they were mistakenly held. Key to the new solution is the phenomenon of fading foundations, according to which distant reasons are less important than those that are nearby. The phenomenon takes the sting out of Agrippa's Trilemma; moreover, since the theory that describes it is general and abstract, it is readily applicable outside epistemology, notably to debates on infinite regresses in metaphysics. The book is a potential game-changer and a must for any advanced student or researcher in the field.

    Description: Il y a deux cents ans, le décret impérial du 17 mars 1808, en 144 articles, organisait l’Université impériale fondée en 1806. Restaurant les facultés, précisant les grades mais aussi la hiérarchie interne du personnel administratif et enseignant, cet imposant décret jetait les bases de notre système contemporain d’Instruction publique. C’est aussi par ce décret qu’apparaît le recteur d’académie, défini comme le représentant direct du Grand-Maître parisien, chef d’un espace territorial nouveau, l’académie, composée d’un regroupement de plusieurs départements pour la gestion des affaires éducatives. Parfois menacée de suppression, souvent modifiée dans ses attributions règlementaires, la fonction rectorale a surmonté les multiples changements de régime qu’a connus la France depuis 1808, s’affirmant comme une spécificité française. Cet ouvrage revient sur les deux cents ans d’engagements polymorphes des recteurs d’académie au service du développement de l’Instruction publique. Il associe de larges synthèses sur la naissance de la fonction et les principales phases de son évolution, les analyses plus spécifiques sur certains de leurs engagements, tout en proposant des études de cas académiques ou biographiques. Ces contributions permettent ainsi de mieux connaître les recteurs et leur fonction mais aussi de réaliser, par leur intermédiaire, une véritable plongée dans l’histoire de nos structures éducatives contemporaines.

    Description: De la Hollande aux Fens anglais, du Schleswig-Holstein à la plaine padane, l’Europe moderne a été marquée par la conquête des marais littoraux et intérieurs. Bien qu’elle n’ait pas souffert de faim de terres, la France a également participé à cette modernisation agricole modifiant les rapports entre l’homme et la nature. Par le prisme de l’histoire de neuf marais asséchés en France au cours du XVIIe, cet ouvrage, fondé sur l’exploitation d’archives nombreuses, françaises et néerlandaises, met en lumière le rôle de la monarchie et de son aristocratie ministérielle dans la conduite de ce processus. Grâce à des dispositifs juridiques et des méthodes de gestion novateurs, mais aussi par un soutien politique constant, la monarchie a permis la mise en culture d’espaces traditionnellement consacrés à la pêche, à la chasse ou à la cueillette. Richelieu et ses créatures, puis Mazarin et ses associés ont ainsi procédé à l’importation d’un modèle hydraulique et agricole d’inspiration néerlandaise, ancré dans l’économie européenne et aux conséquences sociales et environnementales encore marquantes de nos jours. Les bonifications françaises du XVIIe siècle montrent l’importance des liens entre les élites politiques françaises et les élites commerçantes néerlandaises. Ainsi, l’histoire des assèchements offre un regard original sur l’histoire politique du XVIIe siècle français, révélant les enjeux territoriaux de la centralisation monarchique et du développement de l’État.

    Description: This open access textbook aims at providing detailed explanations on how to design and construct image analysis workflows to successfully conduct bioimage analysis. Addressing the main challenges in image data analysis, where acquisition by powerful imaging devices results in very large amounts of collected image data, the book discusses techniques relying on batch and GPU programming, as well as on powerful deep learning-based algorithms. In addition, downstream data processing techniques are introduced, such as Python libraries for data organization, plotting, and visualizations. Finally, by studying the way individual unique ideas are implemented in the workflows, readers are carefully guided through how the parameters driving biological systems are revealed by analyzing image data. These studies include segmentation of plant tissue epidermis, analysis of the spatial pattern of the eye development in fruit flies, and the analysis of collective cell migration dynamics. The presented content extends the Bioimage Data Analysis Workflows textbook (Miura, Sladoje, 2020), published in this same series, with new contributions and advanced material, while preserving the well-appreciated pedagogical approach adopted and promoted during the training schools for bioimage analysis organized within NEUBIAS – the Network of European Bioimage Analysts. This textbook is intended for advanced students in various fields of the life sciences and biomedicine, as well as staff scientists and faculty members who conduct regular quantitative analyses of microscopy images.

    Description: This open access book explores the past and present of Quanzhou (Zayton) and the rich diversity and tolerance that kindled Quanzhou’s innovativeness and helped it prosper both commercially and culturally—values that are today being embraced by China’s global trade partners. Quanzhou (Zayton), Marco Polo’s port of departure and Columbus’ goal in China, was not only the start of the Maritime Silk Road and the Middle Age’s greatest port but also centuries ahead of its time in its tolerance and diversity. The fabled “City of Light” had 7 mosques for its 40,000 Muslims, some of whom served in government, as well as 3 Franciscan cathedrals funded in part by the emperor, Jewish synagogues, and centers for Nestorian Christians, Hindus, Taoists, Manicheans, Jains, etc. As Franciscan Bishop Andrew of Perugia wrote in 1322, “Tis a fact that in this vast empire, there are people of every nation under heaven, and every sect, and all and sundry are allowed to live freely according to their creed.” In 2021, UNESCO designated “Quanzhou, Emporium of the World,” as a world heritage site, and the city is now the hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, the 21st Century Silk Road, which was inspired by ancient Quanzhou.

Croisant les notions de citoyenneté, de responsabilité et de droits civiques, ainsi que les questionnements autour de la politisation de la science, cet ouvrage retrace l’histoire de la médicalisation du corps noir par la profession psychiatrique aux États-Unis, du xxe siècle jusqu’à l’époque contemporaine. Conjuguant l’histoire et la sociologie, il est ainsi question de retracer les différents régimes par lesquels la notion de race a été jugée pertinente par les psychiatres pour naturaliser les différences corporelles des années 1920 jusqu’à l’époque contemporaine. En s’appuyant sur un corpus d’archives personnelles de médecins, d’institutions de soins et de centres de recherche en psychiatrie, ainsi que sur une enquête qualitative réalisée auprès de psychiatres en Californie, ce livre démontre que la catégorie de race irrigue encore et toujours les pratiques et les discours institutionnels, aussi bien dans les représentations que les médecins véhiculent des corps soignés, que dans les stratégies de naturalisation du social employées pour prendre en charge leurs patients.

Trotz des schnellen Wachstums des Anteils der Bevölkerung in einem Alter ab 80 Jahren an der Gesamtbevölkerung ist das Wissen über diese Bevölkerungsgruppe bislang gering. Eine gute Datenlage ist jedoch notwendig: Zum einen, um den besonderen Unterstützungsbedarfen im hohen Alter zukünftig besser gerecht werden zu können. Zum anderen, um Lösungsansätze für sozialpolitische Herausforderungen wie der sozialen Sicherung im Alter sowie im Hinblick auf eine Generationengerechtigkeit entwickeln zu können. Schließlich, um negativen Altersbildern und Vorurteilen über die Lebensqualität im hohen Alter empirisch fundiert entgegenwirken zu können. Die Studie "Hohes Alter in Deutschland“ (D80+) ist eine bundesweit repräsentative Querschnittsbefragung der hochaltrigen Menschen in Privathaushalten und in Heimen. Sie wird vom Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend (BMFSFJ) gefördert und gemeinsam vom Cologne Center for Ethics, Rights, Economics, and Social Sciences of Health (ceres) und dem Deutschen Zentrum für Altersfragen (DZA) durchgeführt. Die Studie vereint Perspektiven der an den beteiligten Institutionen verorteten Disziplinen wie Soziologie, Psychologie, Versorgungswissenschaften, Gerontologie und Medizin.     Description: Au début du siècle dernier, le sultan du Maroc vient de signer un traité qui place désormais son pays sous le protectorat de la France (30 mars 1912). À l’ombre du maréchal Lyautey, un sultan de substitution, totalement soumis aux nouveaux maîtres français, a été proclamé. Cependant, nombreux sont ceux qui, au Maroc, refusent le fait accompli et se révoltent face à la mainmise étrangère sur le pays. Ainsi, dans le Sud marocain, Moulay Ahmed el Hiba, fils d’un marabout ouest-saharien (Ma el Aïnin), se fait proclamer sultan du Jihad en 1912 ; une première fois à Tiznit, la seconde à Marrakech. Ces événements ont donné naissance à un mouvement qui pendant plus de vingt ans (1912-1934) symbolisera pour ces populations berbères et ouest-sahariennes la résistance à l’avancée inéluctable des troupes coloniales françaises et espagnoles. Fondée sur une analyse croisée d’archives inédites, aussi bien françaises que marocaines, l’auteur fait la lumière sur un événement fondateur de la conquête coloniale du Maroc. Mythifiée, récupérée ou occultée, la figure fondatrice du mouvement hibiste est encore aujourd’hui le sujet d’un conflit mémoriel ayant pour objet l’Ouest saharien.

    Description: Ce livre s’efforce de réparer une injustice : proposer une réflexion d’ensemble sur l’œuvre du philosophe français Mikel Dufrenne (1910-1995) qui semble un peu délaissée voire méconnue aujourd’hui. Si sa démarche phénoménologique héritée de Husserl le conduit immanquablement à s’interroger sur la place singulière que l’objet esthétique occupe dans notre monde, son projet est plus ambitieux. L’attention que Mikel Dufrenne porte aux différents arts (les arts plastiques, la musique, la poésie) ainsi qu’à la richesse des expériences esthétiques vécues, décrites et commentées, lui permet en effet de viser un but supérieur : non seulement redéfinir et réorganiser la phénoménologie autour de la question de l’art, mais faire de l’œuvre ce qui permet de remonter vers un principe originaire, la Nature, qui fonde toute création. Cette tâche singulière et méconnue méritait bien un effort philosophique collectif dont le présent ouvrage est le fruit.

    Description: This open access book is the first ever collection of Karl Popper's writings on deductive logic. Karl R. Popper (1902-1994) was one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. His philosophy of science ("falsificationism") and his social and political philosophy ("open society") have been widely discussed way beyond academic philosophy. What is not so well known is that Popper also produced a considerable work on the foundations of deductive logic, most of it published at the end of the 1940s as articles at scattered places. This little-known work deserves to be known better, as it is highly significant for modern proof-theoretic semantics. This collection assembles Popper's published writings on deductive logic in a single volume, together with all reviews of these papers. It also contains a large amount of unpublished material from the Popper Archives, including Popper's correspondence related to deductive logic and manuscripts that were (almost) finished, but did not reach the publication stage. All of these items are critically edited with additional comments by the editors. A general introduction puts Popper's work into the context of current discussions on the foundations of logic. This book should be of interest to logicians, philosophers, and anybody concerned with Popper's work.

    Description: Terre de mélanges culturels et de politiques coloniales, la Tunisie a attiré de l’Europe des courants d’immigrations aussi bien que des visées impérialistes. La trajectoire des Juifs italiens, dits Livournais, s’inscrit au carrefour de ces axes. Une communauté enracinée en Tunisie depuis le xviie siècle, mais toujours assimilée au monde européen. Une population cosmopolite, mais jalousement attachée à Livourne et à l’Italie. Une double minorité, à l’égard tant de la nombreuse population juive locale que des cent mille émigrés italiens vivant en Tunisie au début du xxe siècle, mais toujours caractérisée par une forte identité collective. Pendant l’entre-deux-guerres, la place sociale de cette communauté fut remise en cause par une série de phénomènes convergents : l’essor du nationalisme tunisien, les tensions diplomatiques italo-françaises, et surtout par la montée au pouvoir du régime fasciste, résolu à encadrer les communautés d’émigration dans sa politique impériale. Sur la base de fonds d’archives et de témoignages inédits, ce travail reconstruit le parcours des Juifs italiens de Tunisie face aux stratégies de fascisation de Rome, en interrogeant les croisements identitaires dans les contextes d’émigration, la question de l’adhésion de masse au totalitarisme et le poids des médiateurs au sein des sociétés coloniales.

Der Analysefokus richtet sich damit auf die Frage, wie subjektorientierte Lernprozesse in einer Gesellschaft strukturiert werden können, die durch spezifische soziale Verhältnisse geprägt ist. Das Kernanliegen der vorliegenden Arbeit besteht in der Erschließung der Gedankenwelt Antonio Gramscis für die aktuelle lerntheoretische und politikdidaktische Debatte. Dabei soll der Nachweis der analytischen Ergiebigkeit zentraler Kategorien aus den Schriften Antonio Gramscis, insbesondere der Hegemonie und des Alltagsverstandes, über den Weg einer systematischen Reflexion einschlägiger Sinnbildkonstruktionen geführt werden, denen in der aktuellen Fachdebatte eine zentrale Bedeutung zukommt. Aus einer hegemonietheoretisch gestützten konstruktiven Kritik der Sinnbildkonstruktionen werden Schlussfolgerungen für eine Theorie von Bildungs- und Lernprozessen gezogen, die sich in den Kontext der kritischen politischen Bildung einordnen lassen.

Ou faut-il poser comme point de départ à toute tentative de compréhension des objets « récidive » et « récidivistes » que ce sont des catégories juridiques historiquement situées, des construits politiques qui se sont imposés par la force du droit et qui ont perduré au prix de changements de sens masqués par l’apparente neutralité de la qualification juridique. Tentant d’ouvrir cette seconde voie, cet ouvrage se propose de redonner aux « récidivistes » une dimension historique, d’analyser la consolidation de cette catégorie au XIXe siècle et les raisons et les effets de sa permanence, dont on mesure aujourd’hui encore toute l’actualité. Fruit d’une rencontre de chercheurs issus de différentes disciplines (histoire, socio-histoire, droit, histoire du droit, sociologie), ce livre essaie d’éclairer la question en multipliant et confrontant les points de regard dans la perspective d’embrasser le plus largement un objet tout à la fois juridique, historique, politique et sociologique. C’est au prix (de la poursuite) d’une telle discussion interdisciplinaire que les enjeux liés à la récidive peuvent être mis à jour et par la suite analysés et éclairés.

    Description: On sait que la Troisième République a assuré renseignement primaire élémentaire pour tous et créé l’enseignement secondaire des jeunes filles. On sait moins qu’à partir de 1880 la France s’est progressivement couverte d’écoles primaires supérieures et de cours complémentaires offrant aux filles et aux garçons des études prolongées au-delà du certificat d’études. Ces « collèges du peuple », pour reprendre une expression d’époque, allaient permettre à des enfants issus de milieux modestes d’accéder à des emplois d’encadrement moyen. Le présent ouvrage étudie cette zone obscure dans le passé de l’institution scolaire. Rompant avec l’explication habituelle de la croissance de la scolarisation en termes de « demande sociale », il montre la contribution de l’institution scolaire à son propre développement : ainsi le succès de renseignement primaire supérieur tient à la fois à ses relations organiques avec renseignement primaire élémentaire et à sa souplesse d’adaptation à des populations aux intérêts variés. Autre découverte : à certaines périodes, les collectivités locales ont été des acteurs décisifs du développement de la scolarisation. Une dernière partie examine les relations entre les débats sur « l’école unique », apparus dès 1900, et les évolutions institutionnelles qui ont abouti à l’unification partielle des filières d’enseignement prolongé. La conclusion propose un schéma d’ensemble pour analyser l’école, qui renouvelle les interrogations sur l’école développées par les sciences sociales depuis trente ans.

    Description: This open access book presents a number of case studies on digital transformation in Norway, one of the fore-runners in the digital progress index established by the European Commission in 2020. They explore the process of adoption, diffusion and value generation from digital technologies, and how the use of different digital solutions has enabled Norwegian enterprises to digitally transform their operations and business models. The book starts with an introductory chapter summarizing a vast body of literature in order to synthesize what is already known about digital transformation before exploring the Norwegian context in more detail. Then a series of case studies from the private and public sector in Norway is presented. They document a process perspective which describes the sequence of events during and after adoption of digital solutions, as well as the types of business value that were realized. Through these single studies, the process of digital transformation is illustrated, a number of key findings highlighted, and eventually theoretical and practical recommendations based on these cases emphasized. The book closes with a brief overview of some emerging technologies, and comments on how they are likely to change different sectors. Digital transformation has been one of the priority areas for the Norwegian government over the past years and puts Norwegian enterprises upfront in adopting novel technologies and utilizing them for achieving organizational goals. This experience accumulated over the years makes the Norwegian context a particularly interesting one in understanding how private and public organizations make use of new digital solutions, what lessons can be learnt during the process, and what are some of the key success and failure factors. This way the book is written for practitioners who are currently involved in digital transformation projects in their organizations, researchers of information systems and management, as well as master students in degrees of informatics and technology management.

    Le désir de calme : L’histoire du mouvement Sawaba au Niger (2021)

    Description: En 1954, Djibo Bakary, un activiste nationaliste de gauche nigérien fonda l’Union Démocratique Nigérienne (UDN), un parti politique qui visait non seulement à combattre la domination coloniale, mais aussi à réaliser une transformation large de la société nigérienne. Le parti fut salué par le cri de ralliement « Sawaba », un terme haoussa qui indique le soulagement par rapport à l’adversité et un retour au calme et à la sérénité soulignant l’aspiration des Nigériens à être délivrés de la pauvreté et de l’oppression coloniale sous toutes ses formes. Le Sawaba, dont le noyau était constitué d’un « petit peuple » de ruraux ayant migré en ville, remporta les premières élections générales au suffrage universel du Niger en 1957 et forma le tout premier gouvernement autonome du pays, sous suzeraineté française. En 1958, le mouvement eut maille à partir avec le pouvoir gaulliste de France préférant l’indépendance immédiate à une nouvelle forme d’autonomie et appelant à rejeter la constitution de la Ve République. Les Français, compte tenu la situation stratégique du Niger, réagirent de manière implacable. En violation flagrante de la constitution, un nouveau gouverneur émascula le gouvernement Bakary. La campagne du Sawaba fut contrecarrée. Le parti, interdit, devint une organisation militaire menant la guérilla. Cependant, la guérilla du Sawaba (1960-1966), soutenue par des régimes gauchistes étrangers, aboutit à un échec entraînant la destruction définitive du mouvement. Le récit des luttes du Sawaba n’est pas dénué d’ambigüité, ce qui renvoie au caractère hybride du mouvement et aux métamorphoses vécues au long de son existence. Les sawabistes se montrèrent un mélange singulier d’activistes politiques et de combattants qui, au lieu de faire violence à la population, s’engagèrent dans la bataille comme les agitateurs de rue qu’ils furent jadis – certes armés, mais avec l’espoir de plaire à l’électeur et d’entraîner une fin instantanée aux souffrances du peuple. Millénariste plutôt que militariste, cette mentalité donne la clef de la tragédie de leur défaite.

    Description: Les pérégrinations des moines de Saint-Philibert depuis Noirmoutier jusqu’à Tournus sont souvent citées en exemple pour caractériser l’exode devant les incursions normandes au IXe siècle. La confrontation avec l’itinéraire d’autres groupes monastiques témoigne cependant de l’originalité de cette congrégation qui ne rejoint pas son établissement d’origine. En utilisant les données fournies par les sources diplomatiques, narratives et archéologiques, l’auteur définit les modalités de cet exode et ses implications sur la structure du monastère. Son rôle actif dans la réforme monastique carolingienne lui confère une place privilégiée sur la scène politique. Placé sous la protection royale, il est aussi soutenu par un groupe de la haute aristocratie, cerné grâce à une enquête prosopographique. Ce réseau de relations comme l’évolution de la politique territoriale de Charles le Chauve ont en partie déterminé l’itinéraire des moines et l’expansion du domaine monastique. Leur installation définitive à Tournus s’accompagne d’une réorganisation de l’ensemble de leur patrimoine. Il devient alors possible de s’interroger sur l’existence d’un réseau monastique précoce dont la structure reste ensuite liée aux particularismes de cette histoire mouvementée.

Embrassant l’ensemble de l’œuvre gravé de l’artiste, ce livre fait dialoguer philosophie et histoire de l’art. Il soutient l’idée selon laquelle, même s’il n’est pas théoricien, Rembrandt contribue à renouveler la tradition d’interprétation du sublime. Le principe méthodologique consiste à dégager la pensée de l’artiste. Confronter la pratique du graveur à son iconographie religieuse, inédite dans un pays calviniste, aide à analyser la cohérence de cette pensée. Rembrandt renonce au modèle préalable du dessin pour s’immerger dans le sensible. Or son Christ est proche du Christ de la kénose tel qu’il est présenté par Paul dans ses épîtres : il s’incarne en se vidant de sa puissance. La contradiction entre l’humble et le sublime est au cœur de la pensée de Rembrandt, et on peut y voir un enjeu politique : figures de l’invisible social, ses mendiants évoquent la grandeur de l’homme.
