    Description: This book proposes a novel deep learning based detection method, focusing on vehicle detection in aerial imagery recorded in top view. The base detection framework is extended by two novel components to improve the detection accuracy by enhancing the contextual and semantical content of the employed feature representation. To reduce the inference time, a lightweight CNN architecture is proposed as base architecture and a novel module that restricts the search area is introduced.

    Description: IoT applications perceive and interact with the environment via smart devices and cloud services. When operating such applications one is faced with the challenge of configuring the smart devices and the cloud services in a manner, which achieves a high data quality at low operational costs.     Description: Model-based performance prediction is a well-known concept to ensure the quality of software.Current approaches are based on a single-metric model, which leads to inaccurate predictions for modern architectures. This thesis presents a multi-strategies approach to extend performance prediction models to support multicore architectures.We implemented the strategies into Palladio and significantly increased the performance prediction power.

    Description: In this work, an approach for adaptive world modeling is proposed. World models for cognitive systems often employ predefined domain models, which may become insufficient when encountering unforeseen entities. The presented approach addresses an adaptive extension of such domain models, considering the relevance of proposed model adaptations. As a basis, a quantitative model evaluation is devised, rating the ability of a domain model to represent the currently observed environment state.

    Description: Ellipsometry is a measuring method for surface characterization and thin-film measurement of flat surfaces using polarized light. However, a new measuring principle based on return-path ellipsometry and retroreflection enables the detection of free-form surfaces. This new measurement principle and related questions regarding the measurement function, evaluation algorithms and ambiguities as well as degrees of freedom of the solution set are examined in this work.

    Description: Diffractive lens arrays are proposed in this work for application in reflected-light confocal microscopes. They have overcome the limitations between fields of view and resolution of traditional objectives. Experiments of multi-spot confocal imaging in surface metrology and fluorescence microscopy have been demonstrated based on the proposed concepts, which have shown capabilities of high-resolution measurement over a large area.

    Description: The solution of various tasks benefits from information fusion or even requires it. The Bayesian fusion methodology is clear, well-founded and fulfills the essential requirements for a meaningful methodology also for fusing the contributions of heterogeneous information sources. In many practically relevant tasks, Bayesian methods cause high, often unacceptable effort. In the work, novel approaches to cope with Bayesian fusion in such situations are formulated and investigated.

    Description: This work is a comprehensive, formal treatment of anonymous point collection. The proposed definition does not only provide a strong notion of security and privacy, but also covers features which are important for practical use. An efficient realization is presented and proven to fulfill the proposed definition. The resulting building block is the first one that allows for anonymous two-way transactions, has semi-offline capabilities, yields constant storage size, and is provably secure.

    Description: The understanding and interpretation of complex 3D environments is a key challenge of autonomous driving. Lidar sensors and their recorded point clouds are particularly interesting for this challenge since they provide accurate 3D information about the environment. This work presents a multimodal approach based on deep learning for panoptic segmentation of 3D point clouds. It builds upon and combines the three key aspects multi view architecture, temporal feature fusion, and deep sensor fusion.

    Description: The system described in this work, called ProNat, makes end-user programming with spoken language possible. It enables non-experts to describe programs for different target systems and to extend their functionality using everyday language. ProNat is based on PARSE, a specially designed agent-based framework architecture. In three independent studies, ProNat has proven to be principally capable of synthesizing programs from spoken utterances.

    Description: Interaction with dynamic image content is challenging for user perception, cognition and motor action. This dissertation identifies appropriate gaze-based interaction techniques for moving object selection in image sequences using multiple cross-sectional and one longitudinal user study. Further investigations evaluate how gaze-based interaction and automated image exploitation algorithms support human video exploitation as well as whether gaze-based user task classification is feasible.

    Description: Human support in surveillance tasks is crucial due to the overwhelming amount of sensor data. This work focuses on the development of data fusion methods using the maritime domain as an example. Various anomalies are investigated, evaluated using real vessel traffic data and tested with experts. For this purpose, situations of interest and anomalies are modelled and evaluated based on different machine learning methods.

    Description: I report on applications of slicing and program dependence graphs (PDGs) to software security. Moreover, I propose a framework that generalizes both data-flow analysis on control-flow graphs and slicing on PDGs. This framework can be used to systematically derive data-flow-like analyses on PDGs that go beyond slicing. I demonstrate that data-flow analysis can be systematically applied to PDGs and show the practicability of my approach.

    Description: Intuitive interaction techniques are essential for mobile augmented reality systems. For implicit interaction, this work presents techniques for automatic eye movement analysis and visualization. In the context of explicit interaction, a fusion of optical flow, skin color segmentation, and a hand pose estimator is presented along with a tracking method for localization and pose estimation of a hand in monocular color images.

    Description: This work proposes a probabilistic extension to Bézier curves as a basis for effectively modeling stochastic processes with a bounded index set. The proposed stochastic process model is based on Mixture Density Networks and Bézier curves with Gaussian random variables as control points. A key advantage of this model is given by the ability to generate multi-mode predictions in a single inference step, thus avoiding the need for Monte Carlo simulation.

    Description: Software vendors must consider confidentiality especially while creating software architectures because decisions made here are hard to change later. Our approach represents and analyzes data flows in software architectures. Systems specify data flows and confidentiality requirements specify limitations of data flows. Software architects use detected violations of these limitations to improve the system. We demonstrate how to integrate our approach into existing development processes.

    Description: In this work a Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) shape sensor for shape detection of flexible objects is presented. Such sensors are used particularly in medical technology. Although the subject of FBG sensor technology has been investigated and advanced by research groups worldwide since the beginning of the 21st century, no sensor concept has yet been able to establish itself on the market. This work focuses on the derivation of shape sensing algorithms to improve FBG-shape sensors.

    Description: Configuring an anomaly-based Network Intrusion Detection System for cybersecurity of an industrial system in the absence of information on networking infrastructure and programmed deterministic industrial process is challenging. Within the research work, different self-learning frameworks to analyze passively captured network traces from PROFINET-based industrial system for protocol-based and process behavior-based anomaly detection are developed, and evaluated on a real-world industrial system.

    Description: When models of a system change, analyses based on them have to be reevaluated in order for the results to stay meaningful. In many cases, the time to get updated analysis results is critical. This thesis proposes multiple, combinable approaches and a new formalism based on category theory for implicitly incremental model analyses and transformations. The advantages of the implementation are validated using seven case studies, partially drawn from the Transformation Tool Contest (TTC).

    Description: Visual perception is one of the most important sources of information for both humans and robots. A particular challenge is the acquisition and interpretation of complex unstructured scenes. This work contributes to active vision for humanoid robots. A semantic model of the scene is created, which is extended by successively changing the robot's view in order to explore interaction possibilities of the scene.

    Description: Mathematical optimization techniques are among the most successful tools for controlling technical systems optimally with feasibility guarantees. Yet, they are often centralized—all data has to be collected in one central and computationally powerful entity. Methods from distributed optimization overcome this limitation. Classical approaches, however, are often not applicable due to non-convexities. This work develops one of the first frameworks for distributed non-convex optimization.
