    Description: Digitalization has already transformed many areas of the economy and social life. Aspects of healthcare and clinical practice are also undergoing digital transformation. In light of these developments, this dissertation sheds light on the acquisition, representation, and use of process knowledge in the context of hybrid AI methods. The central contribution is the structure-preserving back-and-forth transformation of process trees to process plans.

    Description: The simulation of ceramic phosphors by means of the diffusion approximation of the radiation transport equation is extended from rotationally symmetrical cases to general, three-dimensional problems. The phosphor is simulated with the diffusion approximation for a temporal and spacial variable laser light source for the first time. Therefore, different laser light sources are being compared to evaluate, which one of the alternatives is best suited for the intended use in an automotive head lamp.

    Description: This book proposes a novel deep learning based detection method, focusing on vehicle detection in aerial imagery recorded in top view. The base detection framework is extended by two novel components to improve the detection accuracy by enhancing the contextual and semantical content of the employed feature representation. To reduce the inference time, a lightweight CNN architecture is proposed as base architecture and a novel module that restricts the search area is introduced.

    Description: In der stationären medizinischen Rehabilitation ist die kardiopulmonale Leistungsfähigkeit ein entscheidender Parameter für die sozialmedizinische Begutachtung. Als Goldstandard zur Beurteilung dieses Parameters sowie zur Bestimmung optimaler Trainingspulsbereiche gelten (spiro)ergometrische Untersuchungsverfahren, die zumeist als Tretkurbelarbeit im Sitzen oder Liegen durchgeführt werden. In der diagnostischen Praxis besitzt die Fahrradergometrie als Standardmethode zur Beurteilung des aktuellen Leistungszustandes und von Leistungsfortschritten jedoch wesentliche physiologische und ökonomische Nachteile. Vor diesem Hintergrund bieten die hier vorgestellten, walkingbasierten Ausdauertestverfahren eine sinnvolle Alternative zu den bisher in der medizinischen Rehabilitation bekannten und verwendeten Belastungsverfahren.

    Description: Interaction with dynamic image content is challenging for user perception, cognition and motor action. This dissertation identifies appropriate gaze-based interaction techniques for moving object selection in image sequences using multiple cross-sectional and one longitudinal user study. Further investigations evaluate how gaze-based interaction and automated image exploitation algorithms support human video exploitation as well as whether gaze-based user task classification is feasible.

    Description: I report on applications of slicing and program dependence graphs (PDGs) to software security. Moreover, I propose a framework that generalizes both data-flow analysis on control-flow graphs and slicing on PDGs. This framework can be used to systematically derive data-flow-like analyses on PDGs that go beyond slicing. I demonstrate that data-flow analysis can be systematically applied to PDGs and show the practicability of my approach.

    Description: This work proposes a probabilistic extension to Bézier curves as a basis for effectively modeling stochastic processes with a bounded index set. The proposed stochastic process model is based on Mixture Density Networks and Bézier curves with Gaussian random variables as control points. A key advantage of this model is given by the ability to generate multi-mode predictions in a single inference step, thus avoiding the need for Monte Carlo simulation.

    Description: Significant changes in average life expectancy make it necessary to focus this study on the development of the physical capacity of humans in the aging process.On the basis of 178 different tests, 241 male test persons will be examined, 74 of them strength athletes, 112 endurance athletes and 55 non-athletes. All of the athletes surveyed are still active and members of the relevant national sports associations. The test persons are divided into two age groups (31 to 49 and 50 to 73 years).The tests collect data from the fields of sociology, performance biography, anthropology, anamnesis, motor skills, cardiovascular and lung function parameters at rest and under stress as well as fat and protein metabolism.The results should show the extent to which strength or endurance training or athletic inactivity influences the body at different stages of seniors and that gerontological research must increasingly have its place in the field of sports science.

As part of the MoMo Baseline Study, the motor fitness of 4529 children and adolescents in Germany was evaluated by using the MoMo Performance Test (11 motor and computer based tests). The data obtained served as a basis for the compilation of nationwide representative standard values. By using these values, it is possible to classify the state of motor fitness and follow its development.

Yet, they are often centralized—all data has to be collected in one central and computationally powerful entity. Methods from distributed optimization overcome this limitation. Classical approaches, however, are often not applicable due to non-convexities. This work develops one of the first frameworks for distributed non-convex optimization.

These challenges include a small database, limited industrial manufacturing inference hardware, and user acceptance.

Therefore tensile tests for the description of the bonding behavior of the fibers, shear tests on three-stone small specimen, small static cyclic shear wall tests, bending tests of wall segments, large format dynamically loaded wall plates and five building experiments were performed under realistic time history acceleration. At the end a calculation method is proposed.

    Description: Elastocaloric cooling is an emerging solid-state cooling technology with the potential to provide environmentally friendly, efficient cooling. The elastocaloric effect in superelastic shape memory alloy films is used to develop advanced cooling devices for small-scale applications. Cascaded and parallelized devices are developed to increase device temperature span and cooling capacity. The concepts are proven experimentally, a maximum temperature span of 27° C is achieved in a cascaded device.

    Description: Experiments to characterize the effects of moisture content and temperature on the mechanical properties of concrete were conducted. Based on these experiments, a new overall material model capable of predicting the mechanical behaviour of concrete subject to elevated temperatures up to 100 °C was developed. The material model estimates the time, temperature and moisture dependency of the compressive and tensile strength, creep and shrinkage of concrete.

    Description: The utilisation of the C4 streams of steamcrackers by converting raffinate II to maleic anhydride was studied. The oxidation reactions were investigated in a laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor to determine reaction kinetics. The effects of pore diffusional resistance were investigated and explained. A two-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous reactor model was used for the simulation of a production-scale fixed-bed reactor. A flow scheme of the reactor section including a recycle was proposed.

For simulations on the component scale, multi-scale methods may exploit this microstructural information. This work is devoted to a multi-scale approach for brittle materials. Based on a homogenization result for free discontinuity problems, we present FFT-based methods to compute the effective crack energy of heterogeneous materials with complex microstructures.

    Description: In the production of modern components, e.g. displays, complex substrates with e.g. conducting paths and pre-structuring are liquid coated and dried. The surfaces of such layers have to have a very well specified quality, usual. Thus it is necessary to avoid the formation of surface structures. This work presents the elementary mechanism and describes a technique for visualization to investigate surface deformations due to Marangoni-Convection during thin film drying.

    Description: In the present work kinetic experiments addressing the oxidation of isobutene and isobutene to methacrolein over a new Mo-based mixed oxide catalyst are presented. The experiments focus on the one hand on the synthesis of the mixed oxide catalyst as well as the characterization of the crystal structure and on the other hand on the identification of suitable reaction conditions for the oxidation of the hydrocarbons.

    Description: The proposed method for the configuration of renewably powered energy supply systems as isolated grids backed by energy storage technology and based on statistical models shows the economic viability of such a system. The energy supply system was configured by implementing cost models using an optimization software. Validation was achieved through comparison with measurements taken from two different existing energy supply areas.
