    Description: This book proposes a novel deep learning based detection method, focusing on vehicle detection in aerial imagery recorded in top view. The base detection framework is extended by two novel components to improve the detection accuracy by enhancing the contextual and semantical content of the employed feature representation. To reduce the inference time, a lightweight CNN architecture is proposed as base architecture and a novel module that restricts the search area is introduced.

    Description: IoT applications perceive and interact with the environment via smart devices and cloud services. When operating such applications one is faced with the challenge of configuring the smart devices and the cloud services in a manner, which achieves a high data quality at low operational costs. This work supports IoT operators with IoT collection strategies and cost optimization functions for data qualities, which are influenced by the interplay of smart device and cloud service configurations.

    Description: Model-based performance prediction is a well-known concept to ensure the quality of software.Current approaches are based on a single-metric model, which leads to inaccurate predictions for modern architectures. This thesis presents a multi-strategies approach to extend performance prediction models to support multicore architectures.We implemented the strategies into Palladio and significantly increased the performance prediction power.

    Description: In this work, an approach for adaptive world modeling is proposed. World models for cognitive systems often employ predefined domain models, which may become insufficient when encountering unforeseen entities. The presented approach addresses an adaptive extension of such domain models, considering the relevance of proposed model adaptations. As a basis, a quantitative model evaluation is devised, rating the ability of a domain model to represent the currently observed environment state.

    Description: Ellipsometry is a measuring method for surface characterization and thin-film measurement of flat surfaces using polarized light. However, a new measuring principle based on return-path ellipsometry and retroreflection enables the detection of free-form surfaces. This new measurement principle and related questions regarding the measurement function, evaluation algorithms and ambiguities as well as degrees of freedom of the solution set are examined in this work.

Therefore, they need to be performed as non-invasively as possible. Nevertheless, particularly minimally invasive security analysis and incident response are still poorly researched.
