Description: Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV SONNE during expedition SO301 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During SO301 the motion reference unit Kongsberg SeaTex AS MRU-5 combined with Kongsberg SeaTex AS Seapath 320 and two GPS receivers SAAB MGL-4 were used as navigation sensors. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track.

Description: The data presented herein originates from a mesocosm study conducted as part of the EU H2020 OceanNETs project, aimed at investigating the ecological ramifications of ocean alkalinity enhancement. Nine mesocosms were deployed in Taliarte Harbour, Gran Canaria, Spain, and systematically sampled using integrated water samplers over the period spanning from September 10th to October 25th, 2021. Alkalinity was employed in a gradient design, ranging from ambient (0 µeq kg-1 added alkalinity, OAE0) to elevated levels of 2400 µeq kg-1 additional alkalinity (OAE2400) in increments of 300 µeq kg-1. The dataset encompasses a spectrum of sediment trap particle flux data, water column biogeochemistry variables, including inorganic nutrients, carbonate chemistry parameters, and particulate matter, alongside chlorophyll a concentrations. The study and data set offer insights into impacts of alkalinity enhancement on marine ecosystems and their associated biogeochemistry.

Description: This Level 3 dataset of radiosondes launched during the MOSAiC expedition has been processed by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Reference Upper-Air Network (GRUAN) algorithm for RS41 radiosonde data. The GRUAN processing is based on the extensive characterisation of the sensor properties to produce a traceable reference data product which is free of manufacturer-dependent effects. Uncertainty values are provided for all measured parameters at all height levels. It should be noted that all provided height information is obtained from the GPS measurement. Close to buildings and metal surfaces (such as RV Polarstern) GPS signals are often very noisy, resulting in artifacts in the vertical elevation coordinate close to the surface. In the atmospheric boundary layer, it is therefore recommended to rely on height calculations based on pressure. Please note that the TAB-delimited ascii format data present only a subset of parameters. The complete GRUAN-processed data are available in the linked netCDF files.

Description: The data are approximately 800 km of airborne electromagnetic survey of coastal sea ice and sub-ice platelet layer (SIPL) thickness distributions in the western Ross Sea, Antarctica, from McMurdo Sound to Cape Adare. Data were collected between 8 and 13 November 2017, within 30 days of the maximum fast ice extent in this region. Approximately 700 km of the transect was over landfast sea ice that had been mechanically attached to the coast for at least 15 days. Most of the ice was first-year sea ice. Unsmoothed in-phase and quadrature components are presented at all locations. Data have been smoothed with an 100 point median filter, and in-phase and quadrature smoothed data are also presented at all locations. Beneath level ice it is possible to identify the thickness of an SIPL and a filter is described (Langhorne et al) to identify level ice. Level ice in-phase, quadrature and SIPL thickness, derived from these, are presented at locations of level ice. For rough ice, the in-phase component is considered the best measure of sea ice thickness. For level ice where there is the possibility of an SIPL, then the quadrature component is considered the best measure of ice thickness, along with SIPL thickness. All data are in meters.

Description: Parts of the analyses have been carried out in the laboratories of the Russian Scientific Arctic Expedition on Spitsbergen Archipelago (RAE-S) Barentsburg Station. Gravimetric moisture content (ice content) was measured by weighing samples before and after drying at 50°C to relate the weight loss to the total weight of dry samples, expressed as weight percentage (wt%). Hydrochemical analyses of sedimentary permafrost samples was undertaken after water extraction. The material was dried and sieved at 1 mm. About 20 g of the sediment were suspended in 100 ml de-ionised water and filtered through 0.45 µm nylon mesh within 3 minutes after stirring.
