    Notes: Aus N-Acetyl-D-glucosamin läßt sich kristallisiertes Chromogen III in einer Ausbeute von 40% d. Th. gewinnen. Dieselbe Verbindung wird, wie es die Theorie verlangt, auch aus N-Acetyl-D-galaktosamin erhalten. Es handelt sich um D(+)-5-Dihydroxyäthyi-3-acetamino-furan (I). Diese Konstitution wird gesichert durch eine Synthese der DL-Verbindung, die von Äpfelsäure (4 kg) ausgeht und 17 Reaktionsschritte erforderlich gemacht hat. Das synthet. Racemat stimmt mit dem Chromogen III, das wir aus einem künstlichen Gemisch von 50% D- und 50% L-Acetylglucosamin erhalten haben, genau überein. Aus dem Chromogen III wurde durch katalytische Hydrierung, Abspaltung der Acetylgruppe und Umsetzung mit Methyljodid ein quartäres Ammoniumsalz erhalten, das sich vom Muscarin durch Austausch der end-ständigen CH3-Gruppe gegen CH2OH unterscheidet; die sterischen Verhältnisse an 2 C-Atomen sind noch unbekannt.

    Description: Meine in Parnassiana Nova VIII wiedergegebene Beurteilung der spanischen apollo-subspecies muss ich aufgrund der grossen Serien davon, die ich aus Sammlung R. Oberth\xc3\xbcr erworben habe, und aufgrund des Gedankenaustausches mit Dr. W. Marten teilweise berichtigen. subsp. chrysophorus Fruhst., die niedrigere H\xc3\xb6henlagen bev\xc3\xb6lkert, erweist sich doch als gute Unterart, die im Vergleich mit subsp. pyrenaicus Harc.-Bath im Durchschnitt gr\xc3\xb6sser ist; Fl\xc3\xbcgelfond in beiden Geschlechtern weniger schwarz best\xc3\xa4ubt, die \xe2\x99\x80 nur ganz ausnahmsweise so stark verdunkelt, wie es bei der Vergleichsrasse eine h\xc3\xa4ufige Erscheinung ist; Ozellen im Durchschnitt gr\xc3\xb6sser, mit in der Regel besserer Weisskernung; die Submarginale meist schm\xc3\xa4ler, Glasband und Submarginale bei subsp. pyrenaicus Harc.-Bath besser entwickelt; Rotpigmentierung bei dieser ausserhalb der Ozellen seltener und schw\xc3\xa4cher ausgepr\xc3\xa4gt vorhanden.     Description: 1. Extensors and flexors trochanteris of the second thoracic leg of Periplaneta americana were investigated physiologically and toxicologically. 2. The movements of the separate muscles were recorded with the aid of a special myographic technique. 3. Nerve muscle preparations of a completely fast and a nearly completely slow function type could be studied in this way. Some muscles represent a form in which both function types occur, probably mixed. When analysed, ryanodine appeared to be a valuable expedient. In some types of nerve muscle preparations inhibition could be demonstrated. 4. Linking up with what is known, it is reasonably certain that the action of high dosages of DDT actually takes place on motor axons or myoneural junctions and not on the muscle fibre itself. Not all of the different nerve muscle preparations seemed to be of the same sensitivity to this poison. 5. \xce\xb3-HCH appears to have a very slight influence on the function of the different types of isolated nerve muscle preparations. However, because of the intense motor activity the muscles become greatly fatigued.

    Description: I.\nINTRODUCTION AND KEYS OF GENERA AND SPECIES\nThe present paper contains the data concerning the synonymy and the figures of the Sacculinidae, compiled from the various publications dealing with species of the family, to bring the scattered data together in a general survey. The keys contain all the species that are sufficiently known to be considered distinct ; unfortunately a number of described species could not be incorporated in these keys for want of definite data concerning their structure. The keys are highly artificial, they do not give an idea of the natural subdivisions of the genera, but are only meant to show that the characters of the recognized species allow of an arrangement leading to a ready identification. If these keys are being used the preliminary identification to which they give occasion should afterwards be checked by the supplementary characters contained in the more elaborate descriptions referred to in the next chapter.\nNot all the described species could be inserted into the keys. In this connexion especially a number of Kossmann\'s (1872) species were omitted, chiefly on account of lack of definite characters. In the cited paper Kossmann described 19 species of the genus Sacculina; in connexion with the data of the present paper these may be commented upon as follows.\nSacculina corculum, a well defined species, now the type of the genus Loxothylacus.\nSacculina papilio, a well defined species of the family Lernaeodiscidae, placed by Van Baal (1937) in the genus Triangulus.\nSacculina carinata, identified by Van Kampen & Boschma (1925) with two specimens on crabs different from the original host; this identification

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Von den mit Wirkungsgruppen aus der Hämin- und Chlorophyllreihe substituierten makromolekularen Verbindungen führt nur die Peptidkette als makromolekularer Träger zu einer Aktivierung der Wirkungsgruppe. Löslichkeit und Hydrophilie des Oxydase- bzw. des Cytochrom-Modelles, Bindungsart der prosthetischen Gruppe sowie das Verhalten des Substrates spielen eine Rolle, wie mit Hilfe von manometrischen Messungen, sowie durch Ermittlung der relativen Reaktionsgeschwindigkeitskonstanten (polarographisch) gezeigt wird. Zur Deutung werden Energiefortleitung durch die Peptidkette und Zwischenstoffwirkungen derselben diskutiert. Bei der photochemischen Spaltung der Kohlenoxydverbindungen der Mesohämin- bzw. der Cytohämin-Poly-(phenylalanin-glutaminsäure) wurde sowohl für die Einstrahlung in die Blaubande der Wirkungsgruppe wie auch in die Phenylalaninbande der Polypeptidkette eine Quantenausbeute von 1 gefunden. Dies beweist eine Beteiligung der Peptidkette am Energietransport zur Wirkungsgruppe. Es werden 3 Typen von makromolekularen Einschlußsystemen besprochen, es wird gezeigt (optisch, polarographisch, Verhalten im Zentrifugalfeld), daß kanzerogene Verbindungen Einschlußsysteme liefern. Schließlich wird über Teilsynthesen von Fermentmodellen berichtet, die nach dem Prinzip Polypeptidkette — Einschlußbereich — Wirkungsgruppe aufgebaut sind. Von den in Arbeit befindlichen Synthesen der 20-bis-29 gliedrigen cyclischen Disulfide wird die Synthese des L-Cysteinyl-tetraglycyl-L-cystein-disulfids besprochen, ferner die zur Verknüpfung mit dem Einschlußbereich erforderlichen Porphyrin- und Phorbin-(N)- und (C)-Aminosäurepeptide der Hämin- und Chlorophyll-a-Reihe mit optisch aktiven und inaktiven Wirkungsgruppen.

Im Bereich zwischen 0,45 und 10,46 g wächst der Sauerstoffverbrauch der Würmer proportional dem Gewicht. 3. Zwischen einem Sauerstoffgehalt von 5500 cmm/l und 800 cmm/l ist der Sauerstoffverbrauch konstant. Unterhalb 800 cmm/l sinkt der Verbrauch ab.
