Description: The ‘Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen’ is a dune area near Haarlem in the calcareous Dune district. Since 1851 it is the water catchment area of Amsterdam. Due to the lowering of the groundwater level the moist dune slacks have disappeared gradually. Since 1957 infiltration of water from the river Rhine takes place for the water supply of Amsterdam. This water, rich in nutrients, causes among others a ruderal vegetation of high forbs and poor in species instead of the former species-rich dune slack vegetation. Since about 1970 locally a divergent vegetation is developing. In the so-called Groot Zwarteveld not only dune slack species have established, but also a number of species characteristic for dunes poor in lime and nutrients: Empetrum nigrum, Erica tetralix, Dryopteris cristata, Osmunda regalis and some Sphagnum species. The most remarkable species is Sphagnum imbricatum, which has been refound in the Netherlands after a long period of (seeming?) absence. It was its first observation in the Dune district. The species mentioned were not known from this dune area in former times. This vegetation development is a result of the new habitat. Firstly this dune area is superficially decalcified, stimulated by former agricultural management owing to which the humus content of the soil has increased. Secondly a layer of nutrient-poor rainwater has been formed on the nutrient-rich riverwater. This is caused by the very slow water movement in this area (without drains) and also by the small groundwater fluctuations (contrarily to most other places with a rapid water movement through the soil and great fluctuations in the groundwater). An important fact is that the vegetation is mown annually since 1974. A similar vegetation development takes place in other parts of the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen where similar habitats have originated.

Description: Careful inventory work and an improving knowledge of difficult genera led to the discovery of new localities for a number of interesting species like Potamogeton coloratus, Hypericum canadense, Carex flava, Callitriche hermaphroditica, Dryopteris pseudomas and Bromus benekenii. Two new hybrids are reported: Dryopteris x tavelii (all former reports being erroneous) and Carex x tornabenii (= C. distorts x extensa). The neophytes Ajuga pyramidalis and Apera interrupta are now considered to belong to the Dutch flora. Reported for the first time are Bupleurum gerardii and Pastinaca sativa subsp. wens. Puccinellia rupestris and Silene gallica are not extinct. Of Oenanthe crocata, first discovered in 1975, two new localities are found.

Description: Apera interrupta (L.) Beauv. was found in 1984 in the province of Zeeland (Rammegors) in a rather natural habitat on sandy soil. In 1986 the species was also discovered in the province of Limburg (in Kerkrade). Until then A. interrupta was considered to be an adventitious species only. From a study of herbarium specimens it appeared that the species had been recorded previously in 1943 and 1958 in the province of Zuid-Holland (Leiden). Recently it turned out to be still present at both localities (a railway-embankment and a former railway). As the number of records has increased significantly \xe2\x80\x93 since 1943 the species has been recorded in 10 hour-squares among which nine new localities near Amsterdam in 1988 \xe2\x80\x93 it is argued that the Netherlands, just like Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, are in fact part of the large discontinuous area of the species. The authors therefore suggest that it is more appropriate to consider A. interrupta as a new, but still local and rare denizen which is indigenous to sandy, open, often freshly disturbed habitats such as waste grounds, building sites and railway-embankments.

Description: Quite a number of new records are the results of the improving floristic knowledge, for instance the new records of Carex buxbaumii and other Carex species, of Alchemilla species etc. On the other hand many new records may be due to flora falsification; it is uncertain, for instance, whether the six new records of Trientalis europaea are (all) natural. The list contains many new records of rare plants from railways, due to specialized inventory work; interesting discoveries are Alyssum alyssoides, Apera interrupta, Herniaria hirsuta, Hippocrepis comosa, and Linaria supina. Poa chaixii has been discovered on a new locality which possibly is an outpost of the natural area. The list also contains some species which might be included in a future edition of the Standard List of the Dutch flora: Asplenium septentrionale, Chenopodium botrys, Lathyrus hirsutus, Lythrum hyssopifolia, Polygonum oxyspermum and Vicia lutea. Another four taxa that were assumed to be extinct have been rediscovered: Arabis hirsuta subsp. sagittata, Carex laevigata, Chenopodium vulvaria, and Sesleria caerulea. The presence of Salicornia pusilla could be demonstrated, old and recent.
