    Description / Table of Contents: The book deals with the influence of cryogenesis (a complex process of heating - cooling, freezing - thawing and accompanying phenomena) on earth surface and upper horizons transformation for the late Cenozoic period, and for the present time. The book summarizes the notions of geocryological zonality, altitudinal zonality and "sectorality" in formation of soil thermal regime, frozen strata and taliks distribution, season freezing and thawing, depending on geographical location of the territory and recent natural conditions. The book also gives an analyses of zonal and regional regularities in periglacial processes and phenomena distribution as well as formation of cryogenic composition for different syngenetic, epigenetic and taber soils and epigenetic frozen rocks. The influence of geothermal, geostructural, geomorphological and hydrogeological conditions, glaciation and deglaciation, Arctic seas transgressions and regressions on thickness, and composition of permafrost zone and its interaction with natural gas hydrates is analysed. The book describes major peculiarities of cryolitozone of platforms, mountain areas and Arctic submarine cryolithozone in connection with Pleistocene and Holocene paleogeography. The peculiarities of lithosphere cryogenesis are analysed mainly for northern Eurasia and partly for North America. The book is intended for students and professional geocryologists, engineering geologists, hydrogeologists, geographers and geoecologists as well as geologists dealing with oil and gas, miners, construction workers and those dealing with Northern and Eastern parts of Russia and Northern part of North America.

    Description / Table of Contents: This book is devoted to the study of relief formation and the analysis of specific landforms on the lowlying sections in the Arctic permafrost zone. Cryomorphologic features, quaternary deposits; ground ice, tectonic and other natural conditions are considered on the example of the Lena Delta. The significance of cryomorphologic processes is revealed in the evolution of both ancient and modern permafrost landscapes in the area. Cryomorphocomplexcs are identified for individual geomorphologic regions (subregions), which are suitable indicators used for different geological and geomorphological mapping purposes. The identification of these complexes is an important step in the cryomorphogenetic analysis. Readership: permafrost researchers, geomorphologists, geographers, geologists, ecologists, scientists interested in the problems of the relief formation in the Arctic and in the Arctic delta areas.

    Description / Table of Contents: Translation of the abstract: The collection highlights modern ideas about permafrost landscapes - the laws of their functioning, temporal dynamics and spatial differentiation. Most articles consider the properties of the permafrost substrate - temperature, ice content, thickness of the active layer - as determining factors of the identity of permafrost landscapes. Concrete examples of the dependence of the development of permafrost landscapes on latitudinal zonality, altitudinal zonality, meridianal sector, manifestations of the rhythm of natural processes, microclimate and geological and geomorphological conditions are shown. Some of the articles are devoted to the problems of the functioning of natural-anthropogenic systems in the permafrost zone and some issues of the protection and rational use of permafrost landscapes. The study of the features of the evolution of alas is carried out in close connection with modern changes in the elements of climate and the permafrost-rheological structure of the region based on the generalization of extensive material on the stratification of bottom sediments and the use of spatio-temporal analysis. The rhythmic nature of the development of the alas was revealed. It has been established that secular and intrasecular fluctuations can be traced in the flooding of alas basins. Nesteruk presented interaction between helicopters and environment, influence of meteorological factors and weather phenomena on the safety of helicopter multipurpose employment, physical nature of the influence of meteorological factors on the flights and the helicopter operation peculiarities in various geographical regions under marginal meteorological conditions are considered. The statements of new class of thermophysics problems are presented, snow and ice are supposed as light-scattering media with volume reflection and absorption. For the first time this method have helped to explain some noted effects of metamorphic evolution in upper active layer of snow-ice medium and to correct lows of their mass-energy exchange. Optical and physical models for different kinds of snow and ice were studied. The models take into account snow and ice-atmosphere interaction by means of convective heat transfer, solar flux and long-wavelength reradiation, and also phase transitions in medium and at boundaries. The model realizations of various native cases of forming heat regime within snow-ice covers are considered. For all that the way of practical use of theoretical results is shown. The range of the problems makes the book to be interesting for experts in glaciology and planetology, physicists, mathematicians, geographers, climatologists.
