    Description: Depuis une dizaine d’années, les recherches menées sur la nature de la connaissance philosophique, le défi de l’intégration, et la connaissance des essences se sont beaucoup enrichies. En faisant appel à des philosophes engagés sur ces sujets, cet ouvrage se donne pour ambition de faire le point sur ces recherches brûlantes et d’en dégager les perspectives. On s’interrogera sur les relations entre connaissance métaphysique et connaissance philosophique, sur la nature des essences et sur leur connaissance, sur les liens entre essences et modalités, sur la place que joue, pour élucider celles-ci, une réflexion sur l’essentialisme et sur les espèces naturelles, sans oublier la manière dont doit se faire l’articulation entre les formes a priori et a posteriori de la connaissance.

    Description: Pour Hans Kelsen, la question des conditions de validité d’une norme juridique d’une part, celle des valeurs qui sont censées inspirer et contrôler le droit positif d’autre part, sont deux questions bien distinctes. C’est la première de ces deux questions, objet de ce qu’il nomme la « théorie pure du droit », qui est au cœur de ces études centrées sur le statut des fictions juridiques - et d’abord sur la nature des fictions en général. Cette réflexion se développe ici à travers un débat vivant avec le théoricien des fictions Hans Vaihinger, auteur de la fameuse Philosophie du comme si (1911). Deux questions sont particulièrement stimulantes pour tous ceux qui s’intéressent, de près ou de loin, au droit et à la philosophie du droit : 1) Comment le droit positif comme système de normes existantes peut-il trouver sa justification ultime dans une norme fondamentale fictionnelle, dans une « fiction au sens vaihingerien du terme » ? Autrement dit, comment ce qui est positif, factuel, par exemple telle loi ou telle décision de justice, peut-il trouver son fondement ultime dans quelque chose d’imaginaire, qui ne dénote rien dans la réalité ? 2) Quelle est aujourd’hui la pertinence du modèle kelsénien de validation des normes ? Comment peut-il trouver à s’appliquer de manière cohérente dans le contexte du droit européen ?

    Description: Il est devenu inhabituel dans la philosophie contemporaine de faire appel à Dieu, à la nature humaine créée, à l’âme, à la finalité de toutes choses et à celle de l’homme en particulier. C’est pourtant ce que tente ce livre : une métaphysique de l’art et de la vie esthétique dans une tradition réaliste et religieuse. Cette métaphysique est adossée à deux idées principales. 1) L’art et la vie esthétique sont un aspect de la réalisation, par l’homme, de sa propre nature rationnelle. 2) Par son âme rationnelle, l’homme participe autant qu’il est possible à l’esprit le plus élevé : celui de Dieu duquel dépendent toutes choses. L’art et la vie esthétique sont ainsi des formes du désir naturel de Dieu - telle est la thèse que ce livre entend défendre.

    Description: The link between language and thought formed a major new exploration of twentieth-century philosophy. Languages nuance our ideas and perceptions. Though from various angles, Heidegger, Derrida, Wittgenstein forged new ways of understanding the relationship between our views of the external world and our culturally and linguistically pre-determined modes of expression. Another giant in this field of exploration is the Romanian philosopher Constantin Noica (1909–1987), who has so far remained generally unknown to the Western World because of the Iron Curtain. The Romanian Sentiment of Being (Sentimentul românesc al ființei), first published in Romanian in 1978, is a philosophical work at the intersection of metaphysics and philosophy of language. The title of this book may be deceptive. “Romanian” does not mean ethnically circumscribed; it does not limit ontology to nationality but rather reflects on how language can carry ontological thought. The Romanian Sentiment of Being invites the readers to meditate on the fundamental theme of being and how it is expressed in a culture in time. This being in time marks the tension between moment and eternity, captured in the fairytale ""Ageless Youth and Deathless Life"" (""Tinerețe fără batrânețe și viață fără de moarte""), which Noica interprets in detail. The translation of the story will be found in the appendix. Noica also analyzes one of the most famous poems in Romanian, Mihai Eminescu’s ""The Evening Star"" (""Luceafărul""), and readers will find its translation in the appendix.
