Şehirler, birey ve toplum ilişkisinin mekanlarla etkileşimi içinde incelenebileceği yerlerden biridir. Bu kitapta yer alan bölümler şehir ve dil bağlantısına odaklanmıştır. Şehrin dilini, içinde yaşamını sürdüren bireylere, bu bireylerin kültürel arka planlarına ve şehirlerde yaşarken ürettikleri, tükettikleri ve maruz kaldıkları göstergelerin, ideolojiler ve politikaların etkilerine kulak vererek duymayı ve anlamayı hedeflemiştir.
