Description: Šioje studijoje analizuojami procesai „tektoniniame“ socioedukacinės tikrovės lūžyje, kai COVID-19 pandemijos sąlygomis ugdymo(si) ir tarpasmeninės mokytojų, mokinių bei jų tėvų sąveikos persikėlė į virtualią erdvę, provokuodamos iššūkius ir aktyvias jų sprendimo paieškas. Atskleidžiami Lietuvos mokyklų ugdymo praktikose egzistuojantys barjerai, kurie trukdo mokiniams gerai jaustis mokykloje, visavertiškai dalyvauti mokymosi procesuose ir siekti optimalių, asmenines galimybes atitinkančių mokymosi rezultatų. Description: Mokslo monografijoje yra pristatoma kultūros istorijos, etnologijos ir etnomuzikologijos mokslų tyrimų kontekste surinkta medžiaga apie Kryžių kalno aplankymo pamaldumo praktikos Lietuvoje ypatumus, apeiginius papročius ir jų kilmę bei sąlyčius su Kryžių kalnu, esančiu Lenkijoje. Atlikto tyrimo išvados pagrindžia monografijos pradžioje išsikeltą hipotezę, kad Lietuvos Kryžių kalno aplankymo pamaldumo praktikos ištakos yra žuvusiųjų ir mirusiųjų atminimo (paminėjimo) ir pagerbimo vieta.

Description: Samogitian Calvary Hills is the Way of the Cross made of 20 sites, 19 stations in 19 chapels in the premises of Žemaičių Kalvarija town. “Samogitian Calvary Hills” is also the title used for a prayer book dedicated to walking the stations. This prayer book is used in Samogitia during the Good Friday and Saturday in churches and during funeral and commemoration of the deceased at home. “Hills” is a term used by Lithuanian Catholic Church clergy and editors of Samogitian folklore and religious books describing religious practice; it has derived from the title of the first edi¬tion prayer book published by Dominican monk Jurgis Kasakauskis in 1681. Afterwards “Hills” prayers and hymns were included in later prayer books. This continued until the declaration of the provisions of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). After the declaration of the provisions of the Second Vatican Council started printing a new versions of “Hills” prayers and hymns. This fact allowed noticing the problematic in change and expression of literal and musical texts of prayers and hymns in Hills prayer books. The problematic allowed formulating the research object – prayers, hymns, music and rites of “Hills” prayer books. Research goal – to analyse literary and musical texts of prayers and hymns in “Hills” prayer books and the origins of their music and rites, historiographic development and reasons for variations. The research validated the hypothesis that prayers, hymns and their mu¬sic in the “old” “Hills” prayer book are not created (except for intentions of stations and prayer “Let us pray” and hymns “Gracious Queen” [“Karalienė maloninga” – in Lithuania and “The most sacred Mother of Heavenly King” [“Dangaus Karaliaus Motina švenčiausia” – in Lithuania]) as it is stated, but composed and prepared prayer book on the initiative of Jesuit, Franciscan and Dominican monks based on calls, acclamations and hymns dedicated to the commemoration of the Passion of Jesus Christ in polish prayer books and hymnals during the time of counter reformation. It was newly edited and recreated by local priests and monks based on the documents of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).

Description: This book deals with the self-definition of the Society of Jesus in the early modern period. The essays written by Italian historians investigate various aspects of Jesuits self-representation such as their missionary activity (in Latin America, China and elsewhere) and their relation with the “profane”. Description: The book consists of two parts. The first one focuses on the personality of Hans Christian Andersen, the originality of his works and its preconditions. The author concentrates on Andersens autobiographies pointing out the peculiarities of Andersen‘s character, the expression of his sexuality and belief in God, also, investigates small prose from the standpoint of genre specifics, analyses the component of simple speaking as poetic strategy and inquires into the correlation of small prose and the tradition of folklore. The second part of the book focuses on Andersen‘s works from the standpoint of comparative science relating them to the works of modern Scandinavian writers, also, the works of Lithuanian writers, especially those written on the verge of 19th – 20th c., besides, it reveals Andersen‘s impact on the development of Lithuanian literary fairy tale and artistic expression in the works meant for adults.

The authors of the book present a concise overview of Lithuanian chrestomathic authors‘ works, analysing them and providing a variety of reviews of the literary process. The Textbook is designed for students at Baltic and Lithuanian Studies centres.

Description: The articles of the book reveal the results of the research made on literary self-consciousness of Kaunas region, reflecting specific transformations of the places written from the 19th century till nowadays. To the problems stipulated by the concepts of the region, place and space are being analysed from the point of view of naratology, cultural geography and bioregionalism. The creative works written during the period from the 19th century till the beginning of the 21th century are being analysed as well, including the texts of Lithuanian literature for children.

Description: The aim of the study presented in the monograph is to reveal peculiarities, methodological strengths and limitations of participatory action research (PAR) in social service organizations. PAR is analysed as a methodological approach which involves scholars and research participants into a process of reflection, knowledge production and construction of new meanings. PAR application area is quite broad – this strategy is applied in communities, business, education, health and welfare organizations in order to increase involvement of citizens as well as their empowerment in communities and organizations. While highlighting originality and singularity of PAR in organizations, authors of the study discuss notions, definitions and distinctive features of PAR. The scholars distinguish novelty, empowering nature, methodological nuances and criticism toward PAR. The monograph presents models, the process, and stages of PAR. Based on PAR implementation in social service organizations, a need for movement from action to reflection and empowerment of research participants to take the responsibility of the changes in organizations is emphasized. The research sheds a light on psychosocial functioning of organizations as well as their readiness for change. Results and insights drawn by the research create preconditions to increase efficiency and effectiveness of organizations. The investigation presented in the monograph was implemented in social service organizations which provide services for the elderly. Lithuanian population is aging, therefore agencies which provide elderly care should be able to respond to changes in the market and satisfy clients` needs. This is relevant for profit organizations and business enterprises which become more active in the social service sector offering their activities for older people. This study presents the situation of older people in European Union and Lithuania. An overview of theoretical resources is carried out by revealing factors of organizational effectiveness and readiness for changes, concepts and typologies of organizational cultures, elements which are related to psychosocial functioning of organizations: job satisfaction, management, conflicts and their solutions, teamwork and stress at work. Recognition which embraces processes on micro, mezzo and macro levels is another concept that is discussed and analysed in the study. The research presented in the monograph included several stages. In the first stage of the research, a qualitative interpretative study was carried out by interviewing representatives of focus group. The researchers disclosed practical experiences, ideas, achievements, challenges and concerns, questions and tensions that arose in the organizations. 4 institutions participated in the research in this stage – 2 public organizations of home care and 2 private organizations of institutional long-term care. In the second stage of the investigation, a quantitative research was conducted to identify tendencies of readiness for change in social service organizations. 401 respondents from municipal and state organizations and 109 respondents from private agencies (510 in total) participated in the survey. In this stage of the research, objectives were: 1) to identify main factors and elements which determine the functioning of public and private agencies for social services; 2) to reveal differences between public and private organizations of social services; 3) to analyse attitude of employees working in public and private organizations toward development of organizations and to evaluate factors which foster agencies‘ development; 4) to delineate issues which are important and relevant for each organization and its psycho-social functioning. The third stage of the research was dedicated to construct a new knowledge on changes to be initiated in the organizations. 2 case studies were conducted by applying a constructivist version of grounded theory (Charmaz, 2006). The first case study was carried out in municipal organizations of home social services for the elderly. The second case study was conducted in public agencies which provide institutional long-term services for the elderly. The main techniques and methods of this research were individual interviews, interviews with focus groups and group discussions as well as methodological seminars to get a feedback from research participants. Five managers and 38 employees participated in the study. The research has empowered the authors to provide methodological recommendations for the implementation of PAR in organizations. The study actualized principles and elements of successful implementation of PAR in agencies of social services – a need to reflect processes and get a feedback in organizations, foster creativity and reciprocity in relationships between researchers and research participants at organizations, support trust and respect, avoid harm and disrespect.

Description: The monograph: 1) provides a brief overview of intonation research, articulatory and acoustic correlates of intonation, and preliminary insights into the possible prosodic hierarchy of the Lithuanian language; 2) analyses the acoustic properties of the phrase centre, which refers to the word in narrow focus or the one receiving phrasal stress; 3) delves into the acoustic and psychoacoustic characteristics of phrase junctions and edges, as well as the regularities of their perception; 4) examines the peculiarities of intonation marking for specific needs as well as for regular written text and provides recommendations; 5) analyses the relationship between intonation and punctuation in written language.

Description: The Lithuanian syllable has not been studied comprehensively. More attention has been paid to the analysis of structural patterns of phonological syllables. The aim of this study is to identify and describe the characteristics of the syllable of Standard Lithuanian, to establish its structure, and syllabification regularities. The syllable is described based on constituents’ hierarchy, syllable weight, phonemic structure, sonority, and optimality theory.

Description: Monografijoje aprašomo tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti ir aprašyti bendrinės lietuvių kalbos skiemens ypatybes, jo struktūros dėsningumus ir skiemenavimą. Tiriamąją medžiagą sudaro daugiau nei 311 tūkst. skiemenų (109 tūkst. žodžių). Lietuvių kalbos skiemuo nagrinėjamas ir aprašomas remiantis įvairiomis teorinėmis prieigomis: dėmenų teorijos požiūriu, skiemens svorio ir skiemenų foneminės struktūros (struktūrinių ir distribucinių modelių) nustatymo principais. Remiantis garsų sonoringumo ir optimalumo teorijomis bandoma rasti skiemenų ribas ir išsiaiškinti kalbos vartotojų skiemenavimo polinkius.

Description: Intensity of forest exploitation increased due to the expanding of use of timber and cutting residues in last years. Changes of the environmental conditions after clear cuttings were very significant, and considerable decline of understory plant and forest entomofauna species was determined. Forest soils were effected by wind and rain in the clear-cutted territories, and fertility of soils depended on the residues in the cutted plots. The presented recommendations are based on the results of the project „Study of impact of clear cuttings on biodiversity dynamics in forest ecosystems“, financed by Grant SIT-1/2015 from the Research Council of Lithuania.

Description: The risk, uncertainty and security of the energy system development are the topics which relevance has been determined by the particularly complicated issues of the energy supply and its functioning in contemporary societies under global energy system. The development of the energy sector has always been not only one of the basic conditions for society development, but one of the most serious threats to enormous and multidimensional (economic, health, ecological, social and political) predictable and unpredictable, probable and unexpected multifaceted security issues. The consequences of the positive and negative globalization are particularly evident in the energy sector, both in the provision of cheap and environmentally friendly energy resources, and in the event of harmful and even tragic consequences for the development of the energy system. An important element of energy politics in liberal democratic societies is the public opinion and participation. The perception of energy security in the Lithuanian society is analyzed from rational choice, reflexive modernization, system theory, postmodern perspective, cultural theory, and governance theory points of views. Sociological analysis of energy security is considered to be a relatively separate branch of sociology. It differs from other topics not so much on the particularity of the theoretical approaches, but on the topic itself. It requires specific adaptation of risk theories for the analysis of specific data. The monograph is based on data from two (2013 and 2014) representative Lithuanian society surveys (18 and older). The results reflect the opinion of Lithuanian population distributed by age, sex, place of residence, education, purchasing power and occupation.

Description: Šalies įvaizdžio valdymo praktikos sukelia daug dilemų, todėl turi tiek proponentų, tiek priešų. Ne išimtis čia yra ir Lietuva. Viena vertus, žiniasklaidoje piktinamasi, kad Lietuva užsienyje pristatoma kaip skurdi šalis ar Hanibalo Lekterio gimtinė, kita vertus, klausiama, ar tinkamai ir efektyviai panaudojami mokesčių mokėtojų pinigai, juos investuojant į tokias neapčiuopiamas ir racionaliai sunkiai paaiškinamas veiklas kaip kultūros diplomatija ar šalies prekės ženklas. Juk šalies įvaizdis – tai beveik magiškas asociacijų ir simbolių debesis, tvyrantis neapčiuopiamos užsieniečių masės galvose. Ar galima teigti, kad jis galėtų lemti tokius racionaliai suskaičiuojamus dalykus kaip šalies ekonomika, turistų srautai ar žmonių gyvybė karuose? Pagrindinė šalis, kuria Autorius domisi ir kurios pavyzdžių daugiausia pateikia knygoje, yra Japonija. Ir ne tik todėl, kad su šia šalimi yra susijęs asmeniškai ir čia atlieka daugumą savo tyrimų. Jo manymu, kaip tik Japonijos šios srities laimėjimai galėtų padėti Lietuvai atsakant į tam tikrus klausimus, sprendžiant dilemas ar renkantis priemones.

Description: This is an anthropological-sociological study of Lithuanian identity contours that are affected by the globalization. Compilers of the book suggests to start to talk about the national identity with the assumption that there are and there were no single and invariable Lithuanian model, however, no matter how various and movable would be the forms of identities, the nation consists of them. This study is an attempt to answer to the question – what does it mean to be Lithuanian today, on the ground of research.

Description: Šv. mergelės ir kankinės Kotrynos Aleksandrietės kongregacija gimė XVI a. pabaigoje Braunsbergo mieste (nuo 1945 m. – Braniewo, liet. Branevas), netoli Aistmarių, Baltijos jūros pašonėje, teritorijoje, kurios šeimininkai ne kartą keitėsi. Šiandien kotryniečių bendruomenė veikia ne tik Lenkijoje, Vokietijoje, Lietuvoje, glaudžiai su Baltijos jūra susijusiuose kraštuose, bet ir Brazilijoje, Afrikoje, Filipinuose, Haityje, Rusijoje, Baltarusijoje, o kongregacijos centras įkurtas Grotaferatoje netoli Romos (Italijoje). Iš viso kongregaciją sudaro apie 550 vienuolių. 1645 m. Krakėse, Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės teritorijoje, funduotas vienuolynas buvo vienas sėkmingiausių Žemaičių vyskupo Jurgio Tiškevičiaus projektų, tebesitęsiantis iki šiandien. Kotrynietės nuėjo ilgą istorinį kelią, ieškodamos savo tapatybės, skleisdamos Dievo žodį ir meilę artimui. Kongregacijos specifika – šalia kontempliatyvaus gyvenimo numatyta aktyvi socialinė – karitatyvinė ir šviečiamoji – veikla, kuri buvo vykdoma atsižvelgiant į laikotarpį ir visuomenės raidos ypatybes. This study reveals the life story of the Lithuanian sisters of St Catherine in 1645–1988. On the initiative of the Beatified Regina Protmann (1552–1613), born in Braniewo (German: Braunsberg, Polish: Braniewo) the Congregation of the sisters of St Catherine Virgin and Martyr was established. In 1583 the first regulation of Regina Protmann was created followed by the second regulation in 1602. Alongside with the contemplative life, the specific of the Congregation is the active social, i.e. charitable and educational, activities. The main purpose of the monograph is to highlight how the charisma of the Beatified Regina Protmann unfolds in Lithuania, i.e. in a local community, at different historical periods, in different cultural, social, and political contexts. It is aimed at reflecting on how the regulation of Regina Protmann was adapted to the conditions of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL), how it was modified during the time of the Republic of Lithuania, and how much it changed after the Second Vatican Ecclesiastical Council. It was also aimed at revealing the main characters of this study, the sisters, their charitable and educational activities, their impact on the society, and their material situation. It has also been assumed that the study will help to better assess the specifics of the Lithuanian sisters of St Catherine in the context of the whole Congregation of St Catherine.[...]

Description: Unemployed, homeless and imprisoned men analysed in this book experience risk of social exclusion that encompass the factors of labour market, masculinity, crime, poverty, social capital, social participation, consumption and emotional wellbeing. The authors of the study ask how these groups of men live their lives in Lithuania in which the social welfare is available only to a small fraction of society. In what ways do these men react to their situation and what survival strategies do they choose? The book also explores what it means to live in the economy of disappointment that contradicts normativity of happiness sustained by desperate optimism and attachment to the vision of good life. Each chapter of the book not only describes socially deprived men’s lives but also reflects on the notions of social exclusion, masculinity, subjective wellbeing, good life, social networks, social welfare system and optimism.

Description: Technology enhanced learning concept, curriculum characteristics and processes are revealed and described in the monograph from philosophical, methodological, and empirical point of view and in the context of international experience. Integration of technology enhanced learning in an organization is based on the conception that information communication technologies should be in harmony with learning and teaching process to enhance these processes. Research implemented in three types of organizations – education, business and community – is presented in the book. Description: The book "Communicating Culture: Institutions, Strategies, Audiences" is an outcome of the research project “The Development of Communicative Competence of Cultural Institutions in the Context of Knowledge and Creative Society” conducted between 2012 and 2015 by researchers of Vytautas Magnus University. The data were collected from cultural organisations, project participants, in Kaunas, Šiauliai and Klaipėda between 2008 and 2013. The project had encompassed theoretical studies and their critical development, case studies and qualitative and qualitative data analysis. Central in the project was estimating to what extent the organisations were perceptive to the influences of creative and cultural industries (CCI) communication processes. The monograph aims to discuss processes, concepts, ideas and reasons why the above-mentioned traditional Lithuanian cultural institutions only partly implement CCI experiences and competences. A related goal is to consider how the efficacy of such institutions can be increased by adopting best practices pulled from CCI experiences in Lithuania and abroad and by implementing possibilities provided by new media. In the book, the essays revolve around the objective to show theoretical links between communicative action and CCI and to reveal their incongruities and points of tension. This is discussed in view of the data obtained within the framework of the above-mentioned research project. The data serve as a background for critical assessment of the dynamics of communicative competences in the researched cultural institutions over the past five years. The latter aspect is an integral part of the objective to discuss the relationship between communicative action, communicative reason and communicative space in regards to modern CCI developments. In this connection, the book also discusses contradictions arising in the formation of the creative class and examines how these contradictions stand in relation to organisational communication. Another objective of research presented in the book is to analyse and to compare communication among cultural institutions and structures related with these institutions. In particular, applied meanings and signs employed in communication are analysed from political and institutional perspectives. To this end, the study provides analysis and critical assessment of the specificity of communication in CCI organisations; probes into its functions and forms; looks at the existing and the necessary competences from the communicative point of view; describes and polemicises whether virtual space and new media are effectively used in communicative practices of cultural institutions.

The idea to write this book primarily came from our intention to share what we have discovered about one of the greatest childhood miracles – play. For a number of years we have explored this phenomenon, yet its profound and extraordinary nature still continues to surprise us. Promotes development and, at the same time, is the greatest achievement of the child. Keeping this in mind, we designed our monograph for a few purposes. First, we wanted to present the results of the three-year project “Development of Self-Regulation in Play” attained in play research laboratory of the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. Second, we sought for the first time to discuss in Lithuanian language the theory of play based on cultural – historical psychology. Our objective was to formulate and present the key principles of the development of self-regulation through play activities. Finally, we aimed to describe the steps of practical use of joint (adult-child) play activities that help a child to develop a self-regulatory behavior during play.

Description: Demographic situation of Lithuania has deteriorated for more than two decades and continues to be very difficult. Data of the vital statistics and of various sample surveys are commonly used for an assessment of the demographic situation. Meanwhile, a very rich data of population census of the entire population are employed only rarely. Therefore, this study has several aims. The main aim of the study is to obtain the new knowledge on demographic development of Lithuania using census data and to reveal the impact of long-term historical changes of socio-demographic structures of population and demographic processes on current demographic situation as well as their possible continuity in the future. Other important aim of this study is to draw attention of researchers and public policy-makers to the rich population census data which allow to understand the demographic situation not only on the total population level but also on various socio-demographic segments and in the long-term context of the demographic development. The information basis of this study includes: first, the micro-data of the Lithuanian 2011 population and housing census which have been a major source of the research; second, for the comparative analysis, the micro-data of Lithuanian 2001 population and housing census have been used; third, available and comparable aggregate data of previous censuses (1989, 1979, 1970, 1959, 1923, and 1897), which permit to disclose demographic trends in the long historical perspective, have been analyzed.
