Description: From March 16-19, 2016, the Young Romance Studies Forum on "Center and Periphery" took place at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. In this volume, the dialectical concepts of center and periphery are examined from the perspectives of literary, linguistic, and cultural studies. Their relevance in Romania is examined in the individual contributions on the basis of geographical, spatial, historical, social, and linguistic aspects, in order to include different approaches and methods of analysis. In addition to a heterogeneous approach to the dimensions of the conceptual pair, the volume offers a structured presentation of the individual phenomena studied. The two thematic blocks focus, on the one hand, on diverse literary studies considerations of the dichotomy of the conceptual pair, and, on the other hand, on linguistic conceptions of center and periphery. Thus, new perspectives on both central and peripheral phenomena in Romance studies are opened up, on the one hand by presenting the range of (traditional) centers and peripheries, and on the other hand by referring to current discussions in the context of the two concepts.

Description: The objective of this work is to investigate the meaning of myth in the work of Yvan Goll (1891-1950), a Franco-German, bilingual and Jewish poet. In his poems, characters of the classical tradition alternate with biblical and historical figures: among all stands out the topic of the myth of Europe, understood as a geographical space and universal homeland for all those who, born in a borderland like Goll, feel “heimatlos”, that is stateless. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate how the artist's dialogue with the myth follows precise and constant rules with a clear goal: to send a strong message to the contemporary world. Taking into consideration the works dedicated to the mythical heritage, it is observed how after the Mythisierung (mythisation) of the old continent, the author deconstructs his own creation through a systematic Entmythisierung (demythisation).

Description: Writing Art is an attempt to respond to the possibilities of art, the potentialities in art, to the possible event that art is. Keeping in mind that events are always already potentially beyond us, are quite possibly unknown, unknowable. In this book, Jeremy Fernando meditates on art through a response to specifics works, to the specificity of the craft, tekhnē, of each work; offering a reading of specific works of photography (Photovoice sg), poetry (Tammy Ho Lai-Ming), installation art (Charles Lim), film (Tan Chui Mui), conceptual art (ZXEROKOOL), and charcoal drawings (Yanyun Chen). Through writing. For, to write is always also to scribble, to scratch, tear, quite possibly open — and perhaps more importantly, to open the possibility of a relation with another, to the unknowability that is the other. At the risk that this writing causes one to writhe, to be torn, to cry out; even if the very one is himself.

Description: The relationships between adults and children requires the presence of two parties involved, but one of the two, the children, has all the rights on their side, while the other, the parents, the adults, has all the duties and many responsibilities towards the first. "Who has the power?". This is the question around which the essays in this volume revolve: they are dedicated to the analysis of the relationships between adults and children as a question of “power”, considered on Foucault’s basis not as something that is shared between those who possess it and those who suffer it, but as something that “circulates”. The analysis is carried out not only through the work of childhood and family historians, the critique of Freudian psychoanalysis, and Gregory Bateson’s theory on the “double bind”, but above all through the reading of works of Italian (Collodi, De Amicis, Vamba) and foreign fiction (Flaubert, Kafka, Bernhard).

Description: Da Blake a Yeats. Sistemi simbolici e costruzioni poetiche is an investigation into the – from many aspects decisive – influence that the symbolic system and visionary poetry of the great English romantic William Blake had on the imagination of William Butler Yeats from his earliest youth. This authentic poetic and visionary apprenticeship in the work of Blake, which culminated in 1893 in the edition in three volumes accompanied by an exhaustive introduction and commentary: The Works of William Blake Poetic, Symbolic, and Critical, was decisive for the formation of the symbolic system that was to nourish all Yeats' poetry. Adopting an approach to the reading that unfurls from an initial analysis of Blake's poetic corpus, and hence from the mythical-symbolic pantheon that surfaces from this, the book then traces Yeats' initial particular hodos chameliontos, profoundly marked by magical and esoteric experiences, subsequently entering into the meanders of the aesthetic, philosophical and poetic interrelations between the symbolic system of William Blake and that of W. B. Yeats. Da Blake a Yeats illuminates how The Works of William Blake represents the first genuine formalisation of Blakeian and esoteric teachings within Yeats' system, while also representing, for Yeats himself, a keystone in his vision of Blake and an inexhaustible spring for the evolution of his symbolic system and his imagination.
Description: Da Blake a Yeats. The Works of William Blake Poetic, Symbolic, and Critical.

[English]:This volume deals with the problem of the reception of elitism in the United States in the period between 1920 and 1956, identifying the protagonists, the phases, and the themes that characterized it. After introducing the fundamental principles of the theory of the elites, the first part of the study reconstructs the debate that it aroused beyond the Atlantic. The second part examines the original American reworking of the elitist lesson, concentrating the analysis on the works of the authors most strongly influenced by it: Joseph A. Schumpeter, Harold D. Lasswell, Charles W. Mills. In this way, the study aims to show how Italian elitism contributed in a meaningful way to the elaboration of democratic pluralism and the construction of American political-cultural hegemony in the second post-war period.
