    Description: Acta Slavica Estonica is an international series of publications on current issues of Russian and other Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. The first part of the book contains chapters about the general history of school textbooks for reading and the story of the heritage of two authors (Vyazemsky and Fet) in them. The second part of the book presents chapters on various Russian poets (Batyushkov, Zhukovsky, Pushkin, Koltsov, Tyutchev, Maikov) whose poems found a firm place in the reading materials for schools. The chapters of the monograph give an idea of different aspects of the history of these texts and their reception. The monograph has two supplements. In the first there is a list of 108 textbooks and books of reading which are all included in the unique data base accessible in the Internet (www.ruthenia.ru/canon). The second supplement offers a list of the most popular authors and their texts included in the textbooks of the 19th century.

This book is an integral part of a research project at Radboud university medical center into person-centred care. With it, we hope to contribute to a positive, hopeful vision of ever-improving Parkinson’s care.

Das Buch bietet eine Reflexion und Theoretisierung dieser Projekterfahrungen und zeigt sowohl die Probleme als auch die Potenziale der Arbeit im Zwischenraum von Kunst und Bildung auf. Es möchte neue Impulse für die Kunstvermittlung geben, zu eigenen Experimenten und zum Weiterdenken anregen. Der partizipativ angelegte Forschungsprozess belegt, dass es möglich ist, die Komplexität der Prozesse in solchen Projekten zu analysieren und zu beschreiben und dabei die Beteiligung der Akteure und Akteurinnen als konstitutiv für den Erkenntnisprozess zu verstehen.

    Description: "This paper considers the social value of anonymity in online university student communities, through the presentation of research which tracked the final year of life of the social media application Yik Yak. Yik Yak was an anonymous, geosocial mobile application launched in 2013 which, at its peak in 2014, was used by around two million students in the US and UK. The research we report here is significant as a mixed method study tracing the final year of the life of this app in a large UK university between 2016 and 2017. The paper uses computational and ethnographic methods to understand what might be at stake in the loss of anonymity within university student communities in a datafied society. Countering the most common argument made against online anonymity – its association with hate speech and victimisation – the paper draws on recent conceptual work on the social value of anonymity to argue that anonymity online in this context had significant value for the communities that use it. This study of a now-lost social network constitutes a valuable portrait by which we might better understand our current predicament in relation to anonymity, its perceived value and its growing impossibility."

    Description: This open access book is the first of a two-volume series focusing on how people are being enabled or constrained to live well in today’s world, and how to bring into reality a world worth living in for all. The chapters offer unique narratives drawing on the perspectives of diverse groups such as: asylum-seeking and refugee youth in Australia, Finland, Norway and Scotland; young climate activists in Finland; Australian Aboriginal students, parents and community members; families of children who tube feed in Australia; and international research students in Sweden. The chapters reveal not just that different groups have different ideas about a world worth living in, but also show that, through their collaborative research initiative, the authors and their research participants were bringing worlds like these into being. The volume extends an invitation to readers and researchers in education and the social sciences to consider ways to foster education that realises transformed selves and transformed worlds: the good for each person, the good for humankind, and the good for the community of life on the planet. The book also includes theoretical chapters providing the background and rationale behind the notion of education as initiating people into ‘living well in a world worth living in'.     Description: El concepto de bien común en los modelos de enseñanza implica un ámbito comunitario que se ha perdido en las instituciones de educación, derivado de la desvinculación del entorno, los actores y el contexto; sin embargo, las Escuelas Normales Rurales han sido resilientes al incorporar características del bien común. Esta investigación realiza una valoración desde los postulados de Jutta Bluert y Fuentes (2011) y Christian Felber (2012) para verificar la viabilidad de la incorporación del concepto de bien común a los modelos de enseñanza a través del fortalecimiento del sentido de pertenencia, la conciencia y perspectiva de la generación y uso de los recursos, la salvaguarda de las tradiciones y los saberes colectivos; así como el cuidado de la naturaleza poniendo en el centro de la toma de decisiones a la comunidad y su entorno. Con ello, fomentar modelos de enseñanza comunitarios como políticas públicas, implica incorporar las características de bien común.

    Description: Das vorliegende Open-Access-Buch folgt der übergreifenden Fragestellung, ob ein Kritiklernen im institutionell gebundenen politischen Unterricht möglich ist. Diese Fragestellung wird nicht aus einer institutionen- und schulsoziologischen, sondern aus einer lerntheoretischen und politikdidaktischen Perspektive entwickelt. Der Analysefokus richtet sich damit auf die Frage, wie subjektorientierte Lernprozesse in einer Gesellschaft strukturiert werden können, die durch spezifische soziale Verhältnisse geprägt ist. Das Kernanliegen der vorliegenden Arbeit besteht in der Erschließung der Gedankenwelt Antonio Gramscis für die aktuelle lerntheoretische und politikdidaktische Debatte. Dabei soll der Nachweis der analytischen Ergiebigkeit zentraler Kategorien aus den Schriften Antonio Gramscis, insbesondere der Hegemonie und des Alltagsverstandes, über den Weg einer systematischen Reflexion einschlägiger Sinnbildkonstruktionen geführt werden, denen in der aktuellen Fachdebatte eine zentrale Bedeutung zukommt. Aus einer hegemonietheoretisch gestützten konstruktiven Kritik der Sinnbildkonstruktionen werden Schlussfolgerungen für eine Theorie von Bildungs- und Lernprozessen gezogen, die sich in den Kontext der kritischen politischen Bildung einordnen lassen.

    Description: La loi du 28 mars 1882, celle-même qui établit l’obligation d’instruction et la laïcité des enseignements, prévoit l’introduction dans les programmes obligatoires de l’école primaire des sciences physiques et naturelles. Quel sens peut avoir pour l’école républicaine cette nouveauté ? N’est-ce que l’aboutissement normal d’une scolarisation primaire organisée depuis Guizot, ou bien est-ce un indice significatif du "nouveau régime" que Jules Ferry annonçait pour l’école ? Rupture ou continuité ? L’analyse fait apparaître une tension remarquable entre la réalité des prescriptions (textes officiels, programmes, etc.), qui maintiennent les sciences dans la tradition modeste et utilitaire de l’école du peuple, et les représentations idéales d’un projet éducatif et culturel qui se veut inédit et qui tend à enrôler l’enseignement scientifique primaire au service de l’humanisme moral, rationaliste, laïque et scientiste qui a marqué la IIIe République naissante. L’analyse de la leçon de choses, méthode exemplaire et universellement préconisée d’un tel enseignement, témoigne de cette tension dialectique originale entre le rêve et la réalité de l’éducation scientifique primaire.

    Description: Based on a qualitative, longitudinal and constructivist research approach, the project at hand explores the decision-making process within the inclusive transition from secondary school I to further education from the perspectives of teenagers with disabilities and parents (with/without disabilities). The narratives of 5 families (3 teenagers with disabilities, 3 fathers, 5 mothers with/without disabilities) are of interest. The interviews were conducted three times (every year) during the transition-/decision-making process along the method of intensive interviewing (Charmaz 2014). The analysis of the qualitative data (32 interviews) was based on the coding process according to Charmaz (2014). Through data analysis three types of decision-making could be identified (giving up decision, forcing decision, taking over decision) as subforms of two higher-level decision-making mechanisms named make an independent decision and make a(n) (independent) decision with support. The expectation of an independent decision-making individual is central for teenagers with disabilities and their parents. Different types of “volition” are connected to the decision-making processes, depending on if the teenagers with disabilities make an independent decision (really want it), make a decision with support ((don’t) want it) or make a decision owing to given opinions (have to). Due to the longitudinal research design the educational trajectories of teenagers with disabilities are also reconstructed.
    Description: Ausgehend von einem qualitativ, längsschnittlich und konstruktivistischen Forschungsdesign untersucht die vorliegende Studie das Erleben von Entscheidungsprozessen am inklusiv verstandenen Übergang von Sekundarstufe I in weitere schulische Bildung aus Sicht von Jugendlichen mit Behinderung und Eltern (mit/ohne Behinderung). Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Erzählungen von 5 Familien (3 Jugendliche mit Behinderung, 3 Väter, 5 Mütter mit/ohne Behinderung), die im Übergangs-/Entscheidungsprozess drei Mal im Abstand von einem Jahr mittels intensiv interviewing (Charmaz 2014) befragt wurden. Zur Auswertung des qualitativen Datenmaterials (32 Interviews) wurde auf die Kodierschritte von Charmaz (2014) zurückgegriffen. Die Datenanalyse offenbart drei Varianten des Entscheidens (entscheiden abgeben, entscheiden forcieren, entscheiden müssen) als Ausdifferenzierungen der übergeordneten Entscheidungsformen selbstständig entscheiden und unterstützend (selbstständig) entscheiden. Zentral ist die Erwartung eines selbstständigen Entscheidungssubjekts, an der sich die Jugendlichen mit Behinderung und Eltern orientieren. Damit einher gehen unterschiedliche Varianten des Wollens, wenn Jugendliche mit Behinderung als Entscheidungssubjekte selbstständig (es wirklich wollen), mit Unterstützung (es (nicht) wollen) oder innerhalb vorselektierter Optionen (es müssen) eine Wahl treffen. Durch das längsschnittliche Forschungsdesign können zudem die Bildungsverläufe der Jugendlichen mit Behinderung nachgezeichnet werden.

    Description: Nowadays poverty can be defined as a construct that can no longer be ascribed to the material scarcity of resources but to the lack of all available relational, social and cultural resources, that are an expression of a “suffering” territory. This fragility testifies to a problem of educational sustainability that requires an exit from the emergency logic of “buffer interventions” by activating social, training and professional networks, capable of responding to the educational needs expressed by the territory. Außerdem müssen sie die Anforderungen von Aufgaben mit Blick auf deren Passung zu den Lernprozessen der Schülerinnen und Schüler analysieren können. Eine derart verstandene "diagnostische Kompetenz" wird als zentrales Professionalisierungsziel von Lehrkräften angesehen. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurden die diagnostischen Prozesse von acht Studierenden mit den Fächern Physik und Mathematik in zwei aufeinander folgenden Lehrveranstaltungen zur Diagnostik untersucht, um Potentiale und Lernhindernisse im Kompetenzaufbau zu identifizieren. In beiden Veranstaltungen bildeten Vignetten von Lernprozessen den Ausgangspunkt für studentische Diagnosen. Forschungsgegenstand waren u.a. schriftliche Diagnosen der Studierenden im Prä-Post-Vergleich sowie auf Video aufgezeichnete studentische Diskurse bei der Diagnose von Lernprozessen der Schülerinnen und Schüler. Die Analysen erfassen u.a., auf welche Komponenten eines Diagnoseprozesses die Studierenden in welcher Weise Bezug nehmen und welche (fach-) didaktischen überlegungen bzw. Theoriebezüge sie in ihren Diagnosen als Referenzpunkte nutzen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass auf struktureller Ebene zwar alle Komponenten thematisiert, aber inhaltlich nicht entlang einer typischen Abfolge miteinander verbunden werden. Trotz inhaltlicher Prompts wird nur selten explizit auf Theoriebezüge zurückgegriffen.

    Description: For about two decades, say Johnson and Pace, the discussion of how to address prose style in teaching college writing has been stuck, with style standing in as a proxy for other stakes in the theory wars. The traditional argument is evidently still quite persuasive to some-that teaching style is mostly a matter of teaching generic conventions through repetition and practice. Such a position usually presumes the traditional view of composition as essentially a service course, one without content of its own. On the other side, the shortcomings of this argument have been much discussed-that it neglects invention, revision, context, meaning, even truth; that it is not congruent with research; that it ignores 100 years of scholarship establishing composition's intellectual territory beyond "service." The discussion is stuck there, and all sides have been giving it a rest in recent scholarship. Yet style remains of vital practical interest to the field, because everyone has to teach it one way or another. A consequence of the impasse is that a theory of style itself has not been well articulated. Johnson and Pace suggest that moving the field toward a better consensus will require establishing style as a clearer subject of inquiry. Accordingly, this collection takes up a comprehensive study of the subject. Part I explores the recent history of composition studies, the ways it has figured and all but effaced the whole question of prose style. Part II takes to heart Elbow's suggestion that composition and literature, particularly as conceptualized in the context of creative writing courses, have something to learn from each other. Part III sketches practical classroom procedures for heightening students' abilities to engage style, and part IV explores new theoretical frameworks for defining this vital and much neglected territory. The hope of the essays here-focusing as they do on historical, aesthetic, practical, and theoretical issues-is to awaken composition studies to the possibilities of style, and, in turn, to rejuvenate a great many classrooms.

    Description: This open access book evaluates research quality, quality of teaching and the relationship between the two through sound statistical methods, and in a comparative perspective with other European countries. In so doing, it covers an increasingly important topic for universities that affects university funding. It discusses whether university evaluation should be limited to a single factor or consider multiple dimensions of research, since academic careers, teaching and awarding degrees are intertwined. The chapters included in the book evaluate teaching and research, also taking the gender dimension into account, in order to understand where and when gender discrimination occurs in assessment. Divided into five sections, the book analyses the administrative data on the determinants of career completion of university students; increasing precariousness of academic careers, especially of young researchers; methods designed to assess research productivity when co-authorship and team production are becoming the standard practice; and interrelations between students’ achievements and teachers’ careers driven by research assessment. It brings together contributions from a large group of economists, statisticians and social scientists working under a project sponsored by ANVUR, the Italian agency for the evaluation of teaching and research of academic institutions. From an international perspective, the findings in this book are particularly interesting because despite low tuition costs, tertiary education in Italy has relatively low enrolment rates and even lower completion rates compared to those in other European and American countries.     Description: Documentary school research establishes a research direction in which the interrelationship of subject-related knowledge acquisition and methodological-methodological aspects is reflexively examined. This volume is the prelude to several anthologies that have been produced in theDFG-funded network ""Documentary School Research"" (NeDoS) and are dedicated to this interrelationship. Three subject areas of documentary school research are the focus of this first volume: School Development, School Culture and School as Organisation. Drei Gegenstandsfelder einer Dokumentarischen Schulforschung stehen im Mittelpunkt dieses ersten Bandes: Schulentwicklung, Schulkultur und Schule als Organisation.     Description: This open access book provides insight into what it takes to actively involve teachers in the curriculum design process. It examines different aspects of teacher involvement in collaborative curriculum design, with specific attention to its implications for sustainable curriculum innovation and teacher learning. Divided into six sections, the book starts out by introducing the notion of collaborative curriculum design and discusses its historical and theoretical foundations. It describes various approaches commonly adopted to actively involve teachers in the (co-)design of curriculum materials. Sections two and three provide examples of what key phases in the curriculum design process - such as needs analysis, design and development, and implementation - look like across various collaborative curriculum design projects. Section four reports on the impact of collaborative curriculum design on student learning, teacher practices, teacher professional growth, and institutional change.     Description: Arundati Roy (2020) states that historically pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This chapter, set in the COVID-19 pandemic, centres the importance of cognitive justice which is an essential part of the struggles for justice against domination. Cognitive justice is used as a lens to explore the case story of Cape Town Together (CTT), which was a response to COVID-19. The social movement was built, bottom up, challenging the deep racial and class divides that are a signature of Cape Town. The concept of ‘professors of the street’ emerged as part of CTT. This concept is explored by locating it within the context of the pandemic and within CTT’s learning/teaching/organising practices. It is argued that ‘professors of the street’ are a provocation to challenge the dominant knowledge hierarchies that prevail – it is a metaphor for the critical importance of grassroots, local knowledge in times of ‘crisis’. The teaching/learning /organising ethos within CTT provided fertile soil for «professors of the street» to emerge as an example of the enactment of cognitive justice within a crisis. The case story offers insights for organising for social-ecological justice in various ‘crisis’ situations.

    Description: The separative logic is not educational. The essay reviews the historical events that have generated an undervaluation of vocational training pathways compared to education pathways. This "minority" of perception and legislation stems from a logic of separation with many faces which, taken all together, with etiological spirit and historical-ordinamental contextualization, explain the "untenable" inferiority of vocational education: people (the 'inferiors') and political-bureaucratic elite (the 'superiors'), nature and culture, man and citizen, etc. These separations concerned the idea of labor (one among them, the opposition between 'manual labor' and 'intellectual labor') and did not allow for increasing the educational power of it. Only a logic of integration (embedded and embodied) can defuse the ideas of separation and provide an organic and holistic image of education.

    Description: Il volume prende le mosse dal progetto pedagogico-interculturale “L’Aquila oltre i confini”, che ha visto la partnership dell’Università dell’Aquila insieme all’associazione capofila Bibliobus, con Arci, Koinonia e il Coordinamento territoriale Ricostruire Insieme, tutte operanti nel capoluogo abruzzese. L’esperienza nasce dalla volontà di progettare e condividere un percorso di realizzazione di programmi di formazione sulla cittadinanza attiva e partecipata, oltre che sulla prevenzione e sul superamento di tutte le forme di discriminazione e di intolleranza, tramite l’utilizzo di metodologie che possano essere trasversalmente contestualizzate all’interno della formazione scolastica, di quella universitaria e della formazione delle professionalità educative e sociali in generale. L’approccio di ricerca-azione e l’asse Associazioni-Scuola-Università si ritrova nell’ossatura dell’intero volume che, ad una prima parte di orientamento teorico in cui ci si sofferma sugli elementi cardine del nostro discorso pedagogico (intercultura, integrazione, narrazione), fa seguire altre tre sezioni a carattere operativo-metodologico descritte da tutti gli attori protagonisti del progetto.

    Description: Mit der international vergleichenden Schulleistungsstudie ICILS 2018 (International Computer and Information Literacy Study) wurden zum zweiten Mal die computer- und informationsbezogenen Kompetenzen von Achtklässlerinnen und Achtklässlern in Deutschland im internationalen Vergleich untersucht. Zudem wurden erstmals im Rahmen eines internationalen Zusatzmoduls die Kompetenzen im Bereich ‚Computational Thinking‘ getestet. Darüber hinaus wurden mit der Studie ICILS 2018 umfangreiche Rahmendaten zum Erwerb dieser Kompetenzen mittels Hintergrundfragebögen für Schülerinnen und Schüler, Lehrpersonen, Schulleitungen und IT-Koordinatorinnen und IT-Koordinatoren erfasst. Zudem wurden erstmals im Rahmen eines internationalen Zusatzmoduls, an dem sich auch Deutschland beteiligte, die Kompetenzen im Bereich ‚Computational Thinking‘ erhoben. Mit dieser Publikation werden die im Rahmen der Studie in Deutschland eingesetzten Erhebungsinstrumente dokumentiert. Die Dokumentation der Instrumente umfasst sowohl die international eingesetzten Instrumente in der deutschen Fassung als auch die nationalen Ergänzungen, die zusätzlich für Deutschland entwickelt wurden. Diese Dokumentation ergänzt die von der IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) vorgelegten Materialen zur Studie. Die nationale Dokumentation der Erhebungsinstrumente richtet sich an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler ebenso wie an interessierte Akteurinnen und Akteure aus der Bildungsadministration und der schulischen Praxis.

This empirical study examines processes of subjectivation in schooling biographies of young Kurdish women in Turkey and asks how relations of inclusion and exclusion in the nation-state are inscribed in subjects through school. It shows the relevance of processes of appropriation and resistance for the formation of self-conceptions in the face of natio-ethno-cultural (non-)belonging and closes with thoughts on marginalized agency.

    Description: When King’s Digital Lab was established in late 2015 it was conceived as both a craft factory (working with colleagues to produce digital outputs) and a technical experiment (a site where the intersection of technology and the humanities could be explored). Significant progress has been made on both of those fronts: dozens of projects have been enabled, operational white papers have been shared, and research outputs have explored the intellectual and philosophical aspects of the laboratory environment. It is now possible to move beyond the techniques that enabled this success and use insights from the philosophy of technology to explore long-standing concerns about the role of technology in society. In doing so, the laboratory would become an applied techno-philosophical experiment. More radically, it could rehabilitate the use of technical objects in the humanities and reject technophobia as not only unproductive but unethical. Technical (digital) objects could thus be accorded droit de cité in the field of the humanities. This perspective fits well with emerging work in the humanities that highlights the history of the field, its relationship to modelling, the indeterminacy of computer technology, and the potential for human-machine relations to be reconciled through aesthetics.

    Description: Dem Vergleichen wird in der Geschichtswissenschaft die Funktion einer historischen Methode zugesprochen, für den Geschichtsunterricht dient es als Methode zur Förderung historischer Kompetenzen. In den Geschichtslehrwerken der Sekundarstufe II taucht es in der Regel in Form von Aufgaben auf. Doch wie relevant sind Vergleichsaufgaben in Lehrwerken überhaupt und welche Fertigkeiten und Kompetenzen benötigen Lernende in der Sekundarstufe II zur (schriftlichen) Lösung einer historischen Vergleichsaufgabe? Diesen Fragen wird mit Hilfe einer zweiteiligen Untersuchung auf der Grundlage einer umfangreichen Frequenzanalyse von Aufgaben in Geschichtslehrwerken der Sekundarstufe II in NRW sowie einer Korpusanalyse von Lernendentexten zu einer authentischen Vergleichsaufgabe aus einem Geschichtslehrwerk nachgegangen. Die Arbeit verbindet den geschichtsdidaktischen Zugang mit dem linguistischen Ansatz der Funktionalen Pragmatik, um das Vergleichen als Handlungsmuster des Geschichtsunterrichts zu bestimmen und es im Hinblick auf seinen kommunikativen Zweck in Teilhandlungen aufzuschlüsseln. Der Zugang wird ergänzt durch den Bezug zur Schreibdidaktik, der gerade im Hinblick auf wissenschaftspropädeutisches Arbeiten in der Sekundarstufe II eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Aus den Ergebnissen der Untersuchungen wird auf der Grundlage eines Indikatorenmodells ein praxisorientierter Weg zum Umgang mit Vergleichsaufgaben im Geschichtsunterricht vorgeschlagen.

    Description: Despite positive attitudes towards mathematics, it must be assumed that mathematics anxiety is a factor not to be underestimated in (pre-service) early childhood teachers. In the first part, this article reviews the current international state of research on early childhood teachers’ mathematics anxiety and shows the achievements and limitations of previous studies. The majority of the reviewed studies deals with pre-service early childhood teachers and their teacher education. Only a few studies tried to relate in-service early childhood teachers’ mathematics anxiety and children’s mathematical achievement. In the second part, this contribution examines empirically whether it can be assumed that the profession “early childhood teacher” can be characterized as “math-avoidant”. For this purpose, n = 774 German pre-service early childhood teachers were examined with regard to their mathematics anxiety and their choice of career. The results indicate effects of mathematics anxiety on the intentional choice to work as an early childhood teacher. The paper concludes with a general conclusion on the importance of mathematics anxiety for early childhood teachers’ professional competence and an outlook on future research.

    Description: The late 1960s can be described as a time of democratic awakening and social upheaval, also regarding discussions on education. Taking this period of critique and questioning as a starting point, the work proceeds to examine knowledge movements. Knowledge circulation and knowledge transformation processes between political and educational practice as well as educational theory are analysed on the basis of 9 biographical narratives of people who were active in educational or political practice projects around 1968. The first theoretical part of this thesis outlines the historical context and introduces the state of research on '1968 and pedagogy'. Subsequently, the thesis introduces its knowledge-historical theoretical approaches, from which the concept of knowledge movements developed for this thesis emerges. The first part of the thesis concludes with the presentation of the methodical and methodological premises, explains theoretically the applied procedure of an integrative coupling of discourses and biographies and shows the form of practical application in the work. The second part of the thesis includes the presentation of the empirical results and along inductively identified thematic strands, various aspects of new perspectives that can be considered as (co-)inspired/stimulated by the critical-alternative pedagogical milieu that are examined in greater detail. The third part of the paper presents the results and links them back to the theoretical premises. Thus, it is shown how knowledge of the discursive space of the critical-alternative pedagogical milieu changed through its discursive entanglements with the established educational science and how the established educational science entered a communicative process of opening through the confrontation with the new forms of knowledge. For educational science, the results and documented processes can thus can thus serve as a sample for contemplation and be referred to introspectively in the context of today's processes of theory formation or research. Disciplinary continuities and discontinuities were shown and hence it is possible to revise/identify trends or demarcations via the knowledge-historical findings of the work.
    Description: Die späten 1960er Jahre können als eine Zeit des demokratischen Aufbruchs und des gesellschaftlichen Umschwungs, auch bezogen auf die Thematisierungen von Bildung und Erziehung, bezeichnet werden. Diesem Zeitraum der Kritik und des Infragestellens als Ausgangspunkt nehmend, knüpft die Arbeit an, um Wissensbewegungen zu untersuchen. So werden, anhand von 9 biographischen Erzählungen mit Personen, die um 1968 in pädagogischen oder politischen Praxisprojekten aktiv waren, Wissenszirkulations- und Wissentransformationsprozesse zwischen politischer und pädagogischer Praxis sowie erziehungswissenschaftlicher Theorie analysiert. Im ersten theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird einführend zunächst der historische Kontext umrissen und der Forschungsstand zu ‚1968 und Pädagogik‘ vorgestellt. Anschließend führt die Arbeit in ihre wissensgeschichtlichen theoretischen Zugänge ein, aus denen das für diese Arbeit entworfene Konzept von Wissensbewegungen hervorgeht. Der erste Teil der Arbeit schließt mit der Vorstellung der methodologischen und methodischen Prämissen, erläutert theoretisch das angewendete Verfahren einer integrativen Kopplung von Diskursen und Biographien und zeigt die Form der praktischen Anwendung in der Arbeit auf. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit umfasst die Darstellung der empirischen Ergebnisse und entlang von induktiv identifizierten Themensträngen werden verschiedene Aspekte neuer Perspektiven, die als durch das kritisch-alternative pädagogische Milieu mit angeregt betrachtet werden können, näher in den Blick genommen. Im dritten Teil der Arbeit werden die Ergebnisse vorgestellt und an die theoretischen Prämissen rückgekoppelt. So wird dort aufgezeigt, wie Wissen des Diskursraums des kritisch-alternativen pädagogischen Milieus sich durch seine diskursiven Verschränkungen mit der etablierten Erziehungswissenschaft veränderte und sich auch die etablierte Erziehungswissenschaft über die Auseinandersetzung mit den neuen Wissensformen in einem kommunikativen Prozess der Öffnung begab. Für die Erziehungswissenschaft können die Ergebnisse und dokumentierten Prozesse somit eine Kontemplationsfolie bieten, um sich im Kontext heutiger Prozesse der Theoriebildung oder der Forschung selbstreflexiv auf diese zu beziehen. Disziplinäre Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten konnten sichtbar gemacht werden und so ist es möglich über die wissensgeschichtlichen Erkenntnisse der Arbeit Trends oder Abgrenzungen gegenzulesen.

    Description: As the title of this treatise indicates, the topic is communication about quality. The author explores the general possibilities and limits of linguistic communication regarding the quality of grade school concerts, with specific concerts as her observational data. The crucial question is where to draw the line between what can be expressed verbally and what cannot when it comes to communicating about quality in this context. The point of departure for the author’s exploration is the noticeable tension that exists between different participants in The Cultural Rucksack (DKS) initiative and the school concert arena. Other researchers have explored this issue, but their contributions do not converge regarding the level of tension and the content of the different stances (cf. Borgen & Brandt 2006; Breivik & Christophersen 2014; Holdhus 2014). When Music Makes Sense aims particularly at clarifying the latter question, i.e., illuminating the specific content of the different stances. The lines of conflict and accord are made more apparent and palpable, and previous research is partly amended. This applies notably to the pupils own opinions on quality, as the treatise shows that they have more divergent opinions than what had been noted in previous research on DKS.

    Description: This book is about digital humanities laboratories, places where the humanities take up new digital and computational technologies for teaching and research, which often grow out of—or turn into—other contemporary labs configurations: research software engineering labs, digital heritage labs, feminist labs, and social labs. In this introduction, the editors present the goal of the volume, which is to discuss the concept of a laboratory in digital humanities from a broad range of perspectives: epistemological, infrastructural, technological, and socio-cultural. This book offers a reflection on how to interrogate the organisational structures of digital humanities, how to reimagine a “critical laboratory” with great sensitivity towards racial, gender, and indigenous issues, and what can be offered to other humanities fields interested in laboratories (e.g., science and technology studies, media studies, and cultural heritage studies). Laboratories have become an important lens for investigating the development of the field of digital humanities and its connections with science, technology, industry, and society, drawing on interdisciplinary approaches from science and technology studies, infrastructure studies, philosophy of technology, feminism, postcolonial studies, and critical digital pedagogy. This collection aims to pave the way toward “laboratory studies” as a new research direction in digital humanities.

    Description: This publication is the result of a baseline study of the state of the higher education systems in the five Portuguese speaking countries in Africa (PALOP): Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe. The project was undertaken by an African international expert in the field of higher education studies and was fully sponsored and supported by the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA). The report offers a historical overview of the development of higher education in PALOP from colonial times to the present. The main objective of this baseline study is to map the landscape and dynamics of change in the higher education systems of PALOP countries. It focuses on describing the latest developments of trends of expansion, financing, governance and policy reforms closely linked to the development of higher education systems in these countries. Furthermore, the study will facilitate an informed debate and the dissemination of knowledge on the role of higher education for development in Africa.

    Description: "This paper considers the social value of anonymity in online university student communities, through the presentation of research which tracked the final year of life of the social media application Yik Yak. Yik Yak was an anonymous, geosocial mobile application launched in 2013 which, at its peak in 2014, was used by around two million students in the US and UK. The research we report here is significant as a mixed method study tracing the final year of the life of this app in a large UK university between 2016 and 2017. The paper uses computational and ethnographic methods to understand what might be at stake in the loss of anonymity within university student communities in a datafied society. Countering the most common argument made against online anonymity – its association with hate speech and victimisation – the paper draws on recent conceptual work on the social value of anonymity to argue that anonymity online in this context had significant value for the communities that use it. This study of a now-lost social network constitutes a valuable portrait by which we might better understand our current predicament in relation to anonymity, its perceived value and its growing impossibility."

    Description: In (First Person)2, Day and Eodice offer one of the few book-length studies of co-authoring in academic fields since Lunsford and Ede published theirs over a decade ago. The central research here involves in-depth interviews with ten successful academic collaborators from a range of disciplines and settings. The interviews explore the narratives of these informants' experience-what brought them to collaborate, what cognitive and logistical processes were involved as they worked together, what is the status of collaborated work in their field, and so on-and situate these informants within the broader discussion of collaboration theory and research as it has been articulated over the last ten years. As the study develops, Day and Eodice become most interested in the affective domain of co-authorship, and they find the most promising explorations of that domain in the work of feminist theorists in composition. Against a background of feminist theory, the reflections of these informants and authors not only provide a window into the processes of current scholarship in writing, but also come to stand as a critique of traditional practice in English departments. Throughout the book, the two co-authors interrupt themselves with reflections of their own, on the rejection long ago of their proposal to co-author a dissertation, on their presuppositions about their research, on their developing commitment to the framework of feminist theory to account for their findings, and on their own processes and challenges in writing this book. The result is a well-centered volume that is disciplined and restrained in its presentation of research, but which is layered and multivocal in presentation, and which ends with some provocative conclusions.

On sait qu’il a, entre autres choses, fondé la pédagogie comme science autonome. Il justifie la nécessité de l’éducation pour TOUS les hommes par la conception même qu’il se fait de la nature humaine qui ne peut parvenir à sa perfection que par une formation appropriée. L’éducation reçoit ainsi une orientation différente de celle que lui avait assignée l’humanisme du XVIe siècle, aussi bien dans sa finalité que dans les méthodes préconisées. Comenius présente ainsi tout un programme d’éducation préscolaire - innovation qui est généralement ignorée. Beaucoup plus tard, Rousseau emprunta à son prédécesseur ses idées les plus solides sur l’éducation de l’enfance. A une époque de profonds changements dans les structures sociales et dans la mentalité, l’étude de la pensée de Comenius est particulièrement stimulante et peut utilement inspirer ceux qui voudraient entreprendre une réforme du système éducatif et l’adapter à notre monde en devenir.

    Higher Education in Innovation Ecosystems (2021)

    Description: Higher education has been considered both an ‘engine’ for innovation and a ‘catalyst’ for sustainability development; the integration of both the innovation engine and sustainability catalyst roles are discussed in a recently published Special Issue on the theme of Higher Education in Innovation Ecosystems in the journal Sustainability. Based on 16 articles contributing to the Special Issue from various perspectives, the Special Issue editors have developed an overarching framework about the relationships between higher education and innovation ecosystems. In the framework, we re-define the concept of innovation ecosystem and identify emerging roles of universities in developing sustainable innovation ecosystems. Re-conceptualization of innovation ecosystems In the editorial of the Special Issue, innovation ecosystem is defined as: co-innovation networks in which actors from organizations concerned with the functions of knowledge production, wealth creation, and norm control interact with each other in forming co-evolution and interdependent relations (both direct or indirect) in cross-geographical contexts and through which new ideas and approaches from various internal and external sources are integrated into a platform to generate shared values for the sustainable transformation of society. Compared with most commonly cited definitions of innovation ecosystem, our definition highlights three new aspects of interactions in co-innovation networks: cross-sectoral, transnational, and indirect, drawing insights from the literature including innovation, geography, and biology studies. The roles of universities in innovation ecosystems The emerging roles of universities in innovation ecosystems are as follows: (1) The role of universities is changing from being a central player in technology transfer to being an anchor in knowledge exchange; (2) universities are assuming a new role in trust-building between actors in innovation ecosystems; and (3) universities are not merely an entrepreneurial universities but are also institutional entrepreneur in the innovation ecosystem. The three emerging roles all indicate that universities are becoming the catalysts for sustainable development in innovation ecosystems. Knowledge exchange is crucial for sustainability; trust is the foundation of the sustainable networks; social entrepreneurship is indispensable for sustainable social change. Evidence in wider contexts A total of 44 authors from 10 countries contributed to the discussions on the changing roles of higher education in innovation ecosystems from varying perspectives. They also report transformations within higher education and universities’ responses to both external and internal transformations. When addressing these issues, the studies provide both theoretical and methodological contributions to the research on higher education in innovation ecosystems. The 16 articles can be generally placed into four categories: (1) new demands for universities arising from the transformation in society toward innovation ecosystems, (2) transformations within higher education responding to emerging societal demands, (3) dynamics of the interaction of university with other innovation actors in a transnational context, and (4) academic and student mobility for higher education innovation. Calling for a new research agenda While societal changes demand broader roles of universities, they also call for and leads to substantial changes within the internal fabric of the university. The innovations in both society and the universities necessitate a renewed understanding of higher education in society, which has become a new research agenda in studies on innovation in higher education. We hope our Special Issue will inspire and encourage more scholars to join the research field.

    Description: This chapter advances a novel theoretic-methodological approach to the analysis of qualitative data. The aim is to achieve a deeper understanding of the relationship between social inequality and educational outcomes in post-colonial rural Southern contexts. It operationalises the Habitus Listening Guide (Arnot & Naveed, 2014) derived from Bourdieu’s theory of cultural reproduction and contemporary narrative theory. The chapter describes the application of four listenings using a dialogic, multi-layered, analysis of interview transcripts. It uncovers the polyphonic voices of four members of Munawar Hussain’s family, describing the impact of the rural social structure on their educational and occupational biographies. Inter-narrativity is generated through repeated listenings of the social structure, of paired father-mother and son-daughter and then of father-son and mother-daughter narratives, and a final mythic-ritual listening which makes audible when religious beliefs are called into play. These beliefs either contribute to the maintenance of poverty and social inequality, and yet inspire strategies to disrupt power structures through education as a religious duty. Each listening reveals the dialectic relationship between the hierarchal post-colonial social order and its school system, and the family’s gendered and generational educational aspirations, strategies, and outcomes.

    Description: Jordi Brasó prologa aquesta edició facsímil del Diari de Vilamar (1922), que es publicà a la colònia escolar de Calafell i que simbolitza tot el moviment social de renovació pedagògica catalana d’inicis del segle XX. Juntament amb l’esforç de diversos mestres i pedagogs, hi hagué el de les institucions per fomentar una escola nova centrada en els interessos i les necessitats del jovent. En conseqüència es volgué millorar la qualitat, la vida i la formació de l’infant allunyant-se de la pedagogia memorística i no reflexiva. Això significava posar el punt de mira en l’alumne, i a partir d’aquest protagonisme elaborar tota la tasca educativa. Aquest diari, amb catorze números que van del 29 d’agost al 14 de setembre de 1922, detalla la vida a la colònia de la Primera República Escolar de Vilamar l’any de la seva creació. A càrrec dels alumnes, és un exemple de com era l’estada a Calafell, que funcionava com una ciutat ideal i amb un model d’autogestió democràtica organitzat de manera jeràrquica entre els habitants.

Werkstatträte sind die gewählte Interessenvertretung von rund 300.000 Menschen mit Behinderungen in WfbM, wozu seit 2001 die Werkstätten-Mitwirkungsverordnung besteht. Mit einer Mixed-Methods-Studie kann – u. a. in Form von Indizes, Zusammenhangs- und Regressionsanalysen – nachgezeichnet werden, wie aktiv, autonom und durchsetzungsstark die Gremien arbeiten. Damit gelingt es, das Postulat der Partizipation von Menschen mit Behinderungen mit einer konkreten Beteiligungsform näher auszuführen und diese empirisch fundiert in den fachlichen Diskurs der Teilhabeforschung einzuordnen.

Students must learn to write in new genres, and their teachers not only need to write but also help others develop their own writing. Even though writing is often essential for learning a discipline and developing a professional identity, these aspects are often overlooked in academic settings. A surprising number of us struggle with writing, and often do so alone. Writing touches upon deeply personal processes concerning who we are in the eyes of others and how we view ourselves. This book elucidates the creative and subjective sides of professional and academic writing, which are in fact quite similar to those of literary writing.     Description: What is going on in Kulturskolen – the Norwegian municipal school of music and performing arts? And what is the relation between the activities in the practice field and research? Kulturskolen is a type of school dependent on cooperation with others – kindergardens, primary and secondary schools, voluntary and professional cultural life, higher education and nonprofit organizations. The field of research related to Kulturskolen is similarly diverse; including both educational research, artistic research and organizational research. This anthology is the result of IRISforsk, a research group linked to the development project for kulturskole named IRIS. The IRIS-project was executed in collaboration between The Norwegian Council for Schools of Music and Performing Art and The Savings Bank Foundation DNB/Dextra Musica, and ran from 2014 to 2016. The anthology includes 13 chapters, eight of which are scientific papers evaluated by external peer-review. Contributors in the anthology are affiliated with five different educational institutions. The chapters discuss and visualize the scope of music and art school related research, including didactics, professional-oriented and management-focused issues, as well as organizational cooperation, talent development and culture as a tool for inclusion. The anthology targets anyone with an interest in research and development in the music and art school related field – researchers, staff and students in artistic education, teacher education and management education, as well as teachers, managers and other practitioners in the field.

The ways that they are depicted, however, are severely limited in physical and personal traits, helping to establish and enhance stereotypes under the general title of ‘scientist’. These stereotypes range from the arrogant researcher who wants to rule the world, to the lab coat wearing ‘nerdy’ genius, but all generally fall to an extreme view of an existing perception of what a scientist should look and be like. For example, the popular image of ‘a scientist’ overlooks the presence of women almost entirely unless attributed to specific subjects and/or with narrow character depictions. The implications can be far-reaching. Young people, being heavily swayed by what they see and hear in the media, may avoid scientific careers because of these limited or unflattering portrayals of the scientific community, regardless of whether they reflect real life. Based on findings from the Light’13 project, this book examines such stereotypes and questions whether it is possible to adjust people’s perception of scientists and to increase interest in science and scientific careers through a series of specific actions and events."

    Description: This volume concerns the role of the Italian schools, the associations and their actors to counteract educational dispersion and encourage the inclusion of minors with a migratory background. The work is part of a collaboration project between Inapp (National Institute for Public Policy Analysis) and Aiig (Italian Association of Geography Teachers) aimed to map the “Analysis, training and territorial activities for preventing/countering the risks of educational dispersion of young people with a migratory background” (June 2022 - March 2023). This collaboration stems from a program agreement between Inapp and Ministry of Labor and Social Policies - General Directorate of Immigration, on “Citizen Integration Policies of Third Countries”. The first part, focused on theoretical aspects, develops the idea of a school as welcoming community, in which disciplines such as geography and tools such as digital teaching can be significant resources to draw on. Related to this, a specific focus on the socio-cultural development in the border and internal areas is underlined. The second part collects the empirical evidences emerging from some territorial laboratories and training courses organized by Inapp and Aiig in various Italian regions. These evidences represent the main results of a qualitative survey on risks of educational dropout of young people with a migratory background. A wealth of proposals together with successful and critical factors is unraveled. In the last section of the volume, these various and original practices are reported by teachers, school managers, and operators, representatives of voluntary organisations, associations and third sector. The idea was to carry out the research not on the actors of inclusion, but with them, giving voice to their experiences. It was a sort of an ideal journey from the north of Italy, where the presence of students with a migratory background is higher, to the south, considered the land of their arrival and transit.
