Description: Shell fusiformly ovate, yellowish, with brown spiral ridges. Whorls about 6, the apical ones, which are slightly eroded, appear smooth, the rest rather convex, depressed near the sutures, vertically ribbed with large swollen ribs of which there are from 10 to 14 on the penultimate whorl, and spirally ridged with 4 or 5 waved ridges on the upper whorls, with finer intermediate ones. On the last whorl, the ribs and waves become obsolete about the periphery; this whorl is encircled with a large number of spiral ridges of which from 10 to 12 form conspicuous brown lirae, with from 1 to 6 intermediate ones. Aperture occupying more than half the length of the entire shell, ovate, pale blue within, lip thickened exteriorly, internally with about 10 ridges forming small denticulations towards the lip. Columella callous, slightly excavated above, towards the middle with a few small tubercles on the left margin and a more conspicuous one near the upper part of the aperture. Canal short, oblique.\nLength 26, diam. 16, length of apert. with canal 14 mill. Hab. Japan, collected by von Siebold (Leyden Museum).

Description: Shortly after having published my observations on the grey colored \xe2\x99\x82 specimen of Dolichoprosopus maculatus Rits. from Batjan [vide Notes from the Leyden Museum, vol. XI (1889), p. 222 \xc2\xb9)], I obtained a few male and female specimens of the typical colour from Halmaheira, which showed at once that the different colour of the covering pile is independent on the sexes and must be ascribed to a local variety.\nMoreover a second specimen from Batjan strengthened this opinion, for although being in a pitiable rubbed condition, it showed just enough of the pile to state that it was of the same greyish colour.

Description: The species described in this Note and dedicated to the late Dr. E. Cand\xc3\xa8ze of Glain near Liege is very interesting necessitating the establishment of a new section in my Synopsis of the species of this genus 1). It belongs to the division I (base of elytra coloured as the apex), A (elytra with four convex flavous spots), b (pronotum finely and evenly punctured, without raised patches), but it has the prosternum neither entirely fulvous (\xce\xb1), nor fulvous in the middle with the lateral portions metallic green (\xce\xb2): in the new species the prosternum is entirely of a dark metallic green colour.

Description: It has been long evident to me, that several distinct species have been confused under the name of Macronota or Taeniodera quadrilineata , but owing to the want of sufficient material, I have hitherto been unable to arrive at any satisfactory conclusion regarding them. Recently however, by the acquisition of Mr. F. Moore\xe2\x80\x99s collection of Cetoniidae, I have secured a good series of specimens from India, and by the courtesy of Mr. Ritsema I have obtained the loan of the various Javanese and Sumatran examples of this group contained in the collection of the Leyden Museum, These, together with other specimens to which J. have had access, have enabled me to recognize both sexes of no less than four species, all of which closely resemble one another in general form and coloration, but present structural and other characters by which they may be readily separated.\nThe first of these species, quadrilineata Hope, was very briefly described in 1831 by that author in his Synopsis of Nepaul Insects [Gray\xe2\x80\x99s Zool. Misc. p. 24 \xc2\xb9)] under the name of \xc2\xbb Trirhius\xe2\x80\x9d quadrilineatus. The original specimens from Major Hardwicke\xe2\x80\x99s collection are in the British Museum, and one of them, bearing Hope\xe2\x80\x99s label and evidently the specimen which served as his type, is an example of a common Indian species, in which the usual red ground color of the elytra is entirely replaced by black; this has enabled me to determine without doubt as to which species the name of quadrilineata should be applied.
