Description: The clinical-scientific report 2007-2009 of the Meyer Hospital is the annotated description of the activities stemming from the two elements that make up the 'mission' of the structure: health care and research. It has been structured in such a way that the integration between these two functions emerges as an essential element for the pursuit of hospital excellence. For those working in the hospital the work undoubtedly represents a useful stimulus for meditation and self-assessment regarding the activities performed; at the same time it also offers an ulterior tool for making the Meyer better known beyond the hospital itself.

Description: Over the past three decades, there has been a growing interest in the link between severe visual disorders (low vision and blindness) and the presence of autism spectrum disorders. Starting from an approach that focuses on the centrality of the person and adopts a biopsychosocial perspective, the text aims to investigate this comorbidity, proposing research questions, theoretical reflections, and intervention insights. In particular, the text focuses on the following themes: the importance of sensitive and specific diagnostic tools and pathways for the early detection of visual impairment from the earliest stages of development in people with autism spectrum disorders; the importance of specific intervention approaches that take into account the distinctiveness related to this comorbidity and allow supporting and promoting the developmental potential of people with this comorbidity; and the importance of informing and training, through a collaborative and person-centered approach, family members, caregivers, teachers, educators, pedagogues and other professionals in the field of inclusion.

Description: In una nota a piè di pagina dell’introduzione al Descent of Man, Charles Darwin commenta i contributi meno conosciuti sul tema dell’evoluzione umana.

Description: After providing a brief description of medicine in the Middle Ages, the work collects and examines the terms attested in three vernacular works by Boccaccio (Decameron, Corbaccio and Esposizioni sopra la Comedia) that can be classified in the medical lexicon. The aim of the paper is to verify the importance that this lexical sector has in Boccaccio’s vernacular production, by identifying possible differences (qualitative as well as quantitative) between the three works examined and, through the specific examination of a particular case (the sequence nodosa podagra), to show the usefulness of a more in-depth lexical analysis also to clarify Boccaccio’s sources.
