    Description: Adelia Noferi (1922-2014) was one the greatest scholars of Petrarch, Bruno, and D’Annunzio and twentieth-century poetry, as well as one of the most refined theorists of the twentieth century and its poetics. This book collects previously unpublished texts, some of which arose from the courses that Noferi taught at university; they reflect with a wealth of doctrine and suggestions on poetry and criticism through Petrarchan readings and an adventurous journey through the topoi of the forest in literature. From the locus amoenus to the labyrinth, the investigation takes place at a structural, formal, symbolic and cultural level and retraces forms and junctions of the imagination through exemplary texts (from Dante to Bigongiari and Zanzotto). The second section, enriched by an iconographic apparatus, collects profiles and testimonies in multiple voices, a biography between generations, and a complete bibliography.

    Description: In his theoretical writings Calvino puts forward a suggestive idea, inspired by Borges, of the library not only as a collection of works, but as a crossed system of combinations. Under this light, literature itself would be a library, continuously subject to changes and aimed at undermining the canonical authors in order to bring out the apocrypha. In fact, if it is true that literature is born from desire and feeds on it, it cannot be satisfied with the data, but strives to project itself in the realm of the hidden, invisible and far away reality. Libraries, then, are not only infinite, but they change the sense of a book according to the section in which it is placed, to its location, to the methods of consultation and use, to the way the book plays with spaces and light, to its coming to the light or its being in search for the shadows (books in skyscrapers or undergrounds). The library is a place where books and readers interact in mythical spaces. Libraries are collections of narratives and not only of the books that survived the catastrophes of history, but also of the burned books, of the books which have been lost or invented. Libraries treasure all books which, by the mere fact of having been at least once written or thought, have left their mark in the world. This charming and precious book, conceived and edited by Anna Dolfi, offers examples from the major modern literature, inviting the readers to reflect on the relationship between paper and celluloid shadows, between inconturnables and marginalia, looking for books inside libraries and libraries inside books. In the background the reader will enjoy the music, the brilliant acting of Carmelo Bene, the strips of the graphics, the architectural projects, the computer screens, and the pages of an unfinished novel by Giuseppe Dessí that speaks of a walled up library and of a cascade of books at the origin of a fiction novel.

    Description: Using the metaphor of the city-text, the volume investigates in a comparative perspective the representations of Istanbul in the works of two pairs of authors: Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar/Orhan Pamuk and Yaşar Kemal/Latife Tekin. The notions of memory and language provide the main hermeneutical cyphers in the analysis of each urban poetics, considered respectively as attempts of (re)writing and translation of mnesic and cultural text of the city in the literary space of high national culture. Moving from the centre to periphery, such an itinerary aims to highlight the intimate relationship between forms of aesthetical appropriation of urban space-time and (de)construction processes of Turkish national canon.

    Description: Vincenzo Consolo: gli anni de «l’Unità» (1992-2012), ovvero la poetica della colpa-espiazione analyses the frequent collaboration between Vincenzo Consolo (1933-2012) and the Italian newspaper «l’Unità», which started in the 1990s and would continue until the author’s death. This collaboration reveals a form of political protagonism which the writer had originally shied away from. Over this period of time, in his written pieces, Consolo turns from the «contastorie consolatorio» (a consoling storyteller) into a Benjamin-style narrator, offering the new generations a progressive life model based on his own youthful experiences. This artistic development reflects in a similar transformation within his narration, and explains the reason behind the use of the first person narrator, that «impudico io» (the “impure I”), as the author himself puts it. This form of literary experimentation, which differs from the work he carried out over the previous decades, allows the writer to atone for not having done more in the Seventies and the Eighties to improve the social, environmental and political degradation whose spread he had witnessed.

    Description: This book is a tribute to Giovanna Brogi Bercoff, Full Professor of History of Russian at the State University of Milan and a leading authority on Polish studies, mediaeval Russian literature and Ukrainian studies, both in Italy and abroad. Former Chairman of the Associazione Italiana degli Slavisti, she contributed to project Italian Slavic studies into an international dimension.     Description: The objective of this work is to investigate the meaning of myth in the work of Yvan Goll (1891-1950), a Franco-German, bilingual and Jewish poet. In his poems, characters of the classical tradition alternate with biblical and historical figures: among all stands out the topic of the myth of Europe, understood as a geographical space and universal homeland for all those who, born in a borderland like Goll, feel “heimatlos”, that is stateless. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate how the artist's dialogue with the myth follows precise and constant rules with a clear goal: to send a strong message to the contemporary world. Taking into consideration the works dedicated to the mythical heritage, it is observed how after the Mythisierung (mythisation) of the old continent, the author deconstructs his own creation through a systematic Entmythisierung (demythisation).

The Diari 1952-1962 of Giuseppe Dessí are presented here in Franca Linari's meticulous transcription accompanied by an introduction and an attentive commentary by Francesca Nencioni. Following the previous volumes, which made it possible to reconstruct the history of his youthful education and the productions of his early maturity, this one now reveals significant changes in the writer's life.     Description: This book outlines a short profile of Italy’s linguistic history, and discusses some current problems related to globalization, the values of the mother tongue and multilingualism, and the need to re-found the Italian and European linguistic policy on a new basis. Contemporary Italian is a particularly stratified cultural asset in which, alongside the many new elements, one can grasp the clear and precious signs of a very strong connection with the past. Today, in the European scene, Italy indeed stands out for its accentuated multilingualism and the long duration of its national language. On the one hand, the extraordinary animal and plant biodiversity in the country corresponds to an extraordinary cultural and linguistic diversity; on the other, the Italians feel that the language used by Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio still belongs to them, and has fundamental traits coinciding with their own. Such richness is particularly appreciated abroad (as evidenced by the growing demand for Italian speakers in the world) and deserves to be better acknowledged by the younger generations. It also deserves to be protected and valued with appropriate tools, starting with a decisive rethinking of the country’s linguistic policy.

    Description: In the early 19th-century, Milan was the most active Italian city in the publishing of books. There, collectors, librarians, scholars of ancient literature and young men of letters were protagonists in an intense activity of publishing classical texts. New editions of Divina Commedia, Petrarch's Rime, Boccaccio’s Decameron, Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso, Tasso’s Gerusalemme Liberata and of many works by writers of the 18th century were published in Milan, in particular by Società Tipografica de' Classici Italiani (Italian Classical Writers’ Printing Society). In a period rich in cultural and linguistic debates, even discussions on the procedures for publishing texts took on a new importance. By analysing the statements of the editors, investigating their textual choices, following their polemics, Alberto Cadioli, one of the well-known Italian textual bibliography scholars for the modern texts, underlines the importance of the «sana critica», the «sound criticism» – i.e. the philological practice, according to the language of that time - with which classical texts were published in Milan in the first decades of the 19th century. This book, that offers unknown data and a large documentation, reveals theoretical unexpectedly Modern observations and methodological indications, hidden in pages forgotten for many years.

    Description: The volume Un incontro lusofono plurale di lingue, letterature, storie, culture (A plural Lusophone encounter of languages, literatures, stories, cultures) aims at highlighting one of the specificities of the Lusophone culture: the linguistic-literary pluralism that continues to distinguish Portuguese culture, from Brazil, to Africa and Asia, since the time of maritime discoveries. The collected essays mark, in this regard, a twofold path: they are intercultural, since they alternate the literary and linguistic aspects from the humanistic to the contemporary era, but they also are intergeneris as they alternate not only historiography and treatises with poetry and narrative - with inter-artistic incursions across literature, painting and photography - but also linguistic aspects, namely grammatical, and examples of rewritings and translational questions, in a sort of further Lusophone dialogue between genres and topoi.

    Description: Maximus the Greek (c.1470-1556), born Michael Trivolis, is a complex figure. As a copyist and Dominican novice, Orthodox monk and humanist, he stands at the crossroads of different worlds, cultures and creeds. His life path unwound between his besieged homeland, humanist Italy – in the Republics of Florence and Venice and in the Papal States – Mount Athos and the Moscow of Vasili III and Ivan IV. This path brought him exceptionally into contact with both Latin and vernacular humanism and Latin Christianity, with the Greek and Slavic Byzantine tradition, with Orthodoxy and Islam, in a cultural, linguistic and religious polyphony that is at once his hallmark and the key to his literary legacy. The subject of this book is Maximus the Greek’s testimony regarding the Western religious orders contained in the Terrible and Memorable Narration, and the Perfect Form of Monastic Life and the Letter on the Franciscans and the Dominicans. The comparison with documentary evidence, made here for the first time, demonstrates the reliability of these works, casting light on the author’s life and the sources, places and people involved in it.

    Description: The book offers an overview of homiletic literature in the Kievian period (XI-XIII century) through the figures of four preachers: the Metropolitan Nikifor I († 1121), Serapion Vladimirskij († 1275), Luka Židjata († 1059) and the hegumen Moisej († 1187). Adopting an approach that, on the one hand takes into consideration the methods recently applied to the study of Western and Byzantine mediaeval homiletics, and on the other recent studies addressing the rhetorical form and the use of citations, the author investigates the function of the Biblical and liturgical citations in the texts of the Slavic-Oriental homiletic tradition, proposing an interpretation in a key that is not merely rhetorical but also linked to pragmatic linguistics.

    Description: The perspective in graphic arts was born with a different form than the one used to present it in today’s courses, and it developed along with the transformations of scientific thought. This study disassembles from the inside the perspective images of a series of works, and then assembles them again, using clear graphic elaborations to show every step of the process. The sequence of the essays illustrates the evolution of role of the abacus and of measures in the works of the first artist-scientists, according to the scientific thought of the time. From Humanism to Baroque, perspective ceases to be a research on the truth of the eye. On the contrary, it becomes the search of the the eye’s deception, exploiting mechanical devices and complex theorems of geometric optics. The original quest is therefore replaced by technical virtuosity. The final repertoire offers a selection of examples showing the wideness of the theme over the centuries.

    Description: This thesis work intends to provide a contribution in the field of research on Stefan Zweig through the in-depth study of his most famous and emblematic biographies that made the writer's fortune worldwide in the 1930s. During the research, it emerged that Zweig's biographies represent a field that has remained largely unexplored. In addition to interviews with specialists, this aspect is confirmed by the limited number of studies relating to this topic, appeared mostly in the form of not always exhaustive journal articles. Particularly, the biographies dedicated to the two queens Marie Antoinette and Maria Stuart are little taken into account, as well as the biographical study focused on the French poet Marceline Desbordes-Valmore. From the in-depth analysis of scientific sources it becomes also clear how the terminology with which these works are indicated is problematic, in that we sometimes speak of “biography” and sometimes of “novel”; sometimes these two terms appear interchangeable within a same work.     Description: Girolamo Borsieri (Como 1588-1629), a versatile intellectual of ranging interests, was greatly appreciated by his contemporaries for the breadth of his literary, artistic and historical knowledge and for his witty and laconic style. Among his admirers were Federico Borromeo and Giovan Battista Marino. In the twentieth century his intellectual standing was acknowledged in works of art history criticism, which were followed by other contributions of literary, linguistic and musicological interest. Despite this, even now many of his works appear to have been somewhat neglected. Starting from the writer's own reflections and the suggestions offered by the critics, the present work proposes a key to the reading of Borsieri as a man, an intellectual and a theorist. It is a monograph on Girolamo Borsieri, constructed largely upon first-hand manuscript and autograph materials that make it possible to sketch his biographical profile and the why and how of his participation in the cultural and religious renewal of Lombard society in the early decades of the seventeenth century. Borsieri's writings are presented, and their critical reception traced. His sacred madrigals – Il Salterio Affetti Spirituali – are also published here for the first time, from the autograph.

    Description: The subject of this work is the morphosyntactic analysis of a corpus of Latin documentary papers which were written in the centre and the north of the Italian peninsula between the 7th and the 8th century. The study focuses on the competition, in the nominal phrase, between synthetic and analytical encoding of the dependent name, which is the result of the grammaticalization process of the phrase starting by the preposition “de”, which in the Romance phase replaced the genitive case. This change is interpreted on a semantic basis, making use of the functional domain of possession. The volume also analyses nominal morphology which, although characterized by polymorphism and inconsistency, manifests phenomena such as the levelling of random oppositions and the reconstruction of inflectional paradigms, two inverse processes which find their cause in the principle of animacy.

    Description: It is a Sardinia out of time, on the threshold of history, the one emerging from the pages of Giuseppe Dessí’s novels and short stories. But it is also a living Sardinia, full of the contradictions occurring in the landscape and in the vicissitudes of men. The profound relationship which bound Dessí to his land, nourishing his fiction, non-fiction and intellectual works, stands out noticeably in the correspondence collected in this volume. The unpublished letters, found in four different Italian archives, were transcribed and duly annotated by Giulio Vannucci. They tell about the birth and composition of a 1951 special issue of Pietro Calamandrei’s «Il Ponte» dedicated to Sardinia, and reconstruct the genesis of the splendid anthology «Scoperta della Sardegna», issued in 1965 by Alberto Vigevani's publisher «Il Polifilo». In those two extraordinary books, the writer left the narrating voice to others for once. Within them, he built a different choral story of the island not only through the words of friends, but also through those of scholars, historians, politicians and many more. In the case of «Il Ponte», Dessí put himself at Calamandrei’s service to find suitable collaborators and talk about post World War Two Sardinia, while choosing researchers who could trace a new and original guide for the cultural discovery of the island for «Il Polifilo». The correspondence goes over all of this, but also over culture in the Sixties and the dialogues and intellectual tensions accompanying Dessí in the writing of two works which, thanks to their anthropological and social acuity, still tell the modern reader of a 'vital home' that was his.

Rilke? They share the belief that the poetic word - which etymologically has “creative” powers - generates cognitive perspectives altering our perception of the world.     Description: Girolamo Bartolommei’s literary research is characterised by the narration of actions carried out by sacred and profane subjects and by the narration of ancient fabulae, re-interpreted according to the principle of moral utility. Girolamo Bartolommei dealt with different forms of lyrical, epic, dramaturgical and musical writing, recalling 'the benign readers' of his works to the ethical and social function of poetry. His work Didascalia cioè dottrina comica (“Caption, that is comic doctrine” printed in Florence in 1658 and reprinted in 1661), of which the critical edition is here introduced, is of particular interest for the peculiarity of the theoretical proposal. Such proposal is ascribable to the aesthetic of the academy theatre, aimed at demonstrating to young writers that only the 'honesty' and the decorum of a 'well-ordered comedy' could lift the fate of comic art from the degradation in which it had fallen. The author tries to convey this idea by proceeding from questions of general poetics up to the 'sketches of middle comedies' he composed himself.

    Description: The book sets out to reconstruct why and how poetry and prose came to meet and mix in Italy between the second half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century; contrary to what has taken place in France for the petit poème en prose, there has been no overall mapping of the Italian sphere to give refreshed sense to single phenomena. The author begins to fill this gap by looking at three areas of research: the Scapigliatura movement, the experimentations of the last two decades of the nineteenth century (from Ragusa Moleti to Pica, Deledda to Capuana), and «La Voce» 1908-1913. Two works are constantly used as inevitable points of reference: Operette morali by Leopardi and Petits poèmes en prose by Baudelaire.

    Description: Giulia is a maiden abandoned at the birth in Florence of Francesco I dei Medici and Bianca Cappello, who has already been the subject of historical research and some re-elaboration in literary and cinematographic terms. Thanks to the richness of the sources now found, a completely new and exhaustive biography of this 16th century woman is presented, with an unpublished version of her personality and history. Florence, the Casentino and the Valdinievole are the places of her life, which fully reflects the condition of women in her era, faced by Giulia with courage and determination. The discourse develops on two intertwined planes, that of historical analysis and that of its narrative integration, with the hypothetical reconstruction of the areas left in the shadows. This book enters by right into historiographical traditions now widely codified and into a literary tradition defined by Giacomo Debenedetti as 'historiography of interiority'.

    Description: This is the first of the two volumes dedicated to Hermeticism and Florence published by Firenze University Press (the second one entitled Luzi, Bigongiari, Parronchi, Bodini, Sereni can be purchased separately). Between 1930 and 1945, a group of young people started one of the most vibrant literary seasons of the 20th century in Florence, known as Florentine Hermeticisms (or simply Hermeticism). Many of its members recognised themselves in a common narrative marked by a shared imagination, and in the silent dissent from the rhetoric of the regime, which was contrasted by the radicalism of the ethical request and by the deep bond with the Jewish-Christian, romantic and symbolist roots of the European civilisation. A hundred years after the birth of its protagonists, there is still much wondering on the nature and definition of Hermeticism, on how it was born, on what distinguished it, on what signs it suffered and left. Searching for how it changed, why it was surrounded by passion, prejudices and aversion (as done by the two essential volumes collecting the documents of a memorable conference in which Anna Dolfi involved scholars from all over the world), leads to draw a portrait of the Hermetic authors, its admirers and/or detractors, and to outline the boundaries and the characteristics of a complex chapter of Italian history which began with Fascism and recently ended with the fall of ideologies. Among masters, companions, followers, the figures of Bo, Macrí, Luzi, Bigongiari, Parronchi, Bodini and of the companion Sereni, stand out for the strength of a suggestive writing experience highly meditative, for all the critic, translation, narrative and poetry genres.

    Description: Unfinished work or interrupted work… It is difficult to find a definition, to identify the theme, to distinguish chance from intentionality. Few 'genres' and / or variations express as the 'unfinished' the same need for what is external to the work and which somehow completes it, bringing the work in a privileged position to create a harmony with our restless modernity. No wonder that in literature, in addition to what has been brutally interrupted, the letters, the diaries, the chronicles of disease and suffering are naturally suspended works. No wonder either that incompleteness accompanies the writings referring to unsolved issues, hidden traumas, silent melancholy. Dictated by choice or by distinct degrees of incapacity, the temptation of the unfinished pursues, urges, deludes its author... The private writings, the sketches, the projects, the papers testify the path necessary for the work to develop and conquer its shape. This book is rich and suggestive and has been conceived and edited by Anna Dolfi. Like its very object, the work is drafted in the perspective of the unfinished and questions some of the many possible examples, along a diachronic arc that goes to literature at figurative arts, theatre, cinema: from Leonardo to Blake, from Ariosto to Stendhal, from Dossi to Gadda, from Kafka to Borges, from Sarraute to Morante, from unknown writers affected by 'cancroregina' to the last Pirandello staged by Tiezzi, up to Fellini of the impossible Mastorna ... At the centre of the volume the readers will find a section with the typescript pages and the unpublished notebooks of / for the work La scelta by Giuseppe Dessí.     Description: Musica, scienziato!, a work that cannot be reduced to pre-existing models, establishes a new literary genre, the scientifantasia, which, although part of a literary tradition which has included eminent figures such as the acrobatic engineer Gadda and the chemist Levi, is here presented in a totally new physiognomy.     Description: Si raccolgono in questo volume gli Atti del Convegno Internazionale «E nadi contra suberna». Essere “trovatori” oggi, Università di Ferrara, 20-21 novembre 2018. Insolitamente per la Filologia romanza coltivata in Italia, i contributi vertono sulla letteratura occitanica contemporanea. Gli autori presi in esame sono Frédéric Mistral, Joseph d’Arbaud, Max-Philippe Delavouët, Max Rouquette, Marcela Delpastre, Joan-Luc Sauvaigo, i poeti occitani Sergio Arneodo, Antonio Bodrero, Piero Raina, Claudio Salvagno, e infine Joan Ganhaire. I generi letterari cui le rispettive opere afferiscono interessano la poesia come la prosa. Alcune tematiche comuni a più di un autore, in particolare quelle legate al paesaggio mediterraneo (il Rodano, la Camargue o il mondo rurale limosino), sfuggono ai consunti stereotipi del pittoresco, attingendo piuttosto ai misteri degli elementi e allo spirito panico che anima la natura. L’altra questione che si pone è quella della lingua e della cultura occitanica novecentesca che reclama, attraverso la sua letteratura, un’identità maiuscola che la storia ha sacrificato. Ne denunciano lo smarrimento, o la ricusazione di una posticcia, gli scrittori, tra cui Joan-Luc Sauvaigo, nizzardo, che elegge nel ‘confine’ il non-luogo in cui il mondo occitano vive esiliato. Rispetto al retaggio trobadorico, cui restano fatalmente ancorati, la scelta di questi autori intende dimostrare la versatilità di tale letteratura, che si esprime da ultimo anche in un genere popolare quale il poliziesco (Joan Ganhaire). Insomma, quella che è stata definita L’ombre de l’occitan (Gardy), dopo i contributi fondamentali di Fausta Garavini, con questo volume tende a venire alla luce.

    Description: Starting with the great authors of the past, autobiographical requests have been a distinctive feature of Scandinavian literatures. Today, after the modernist experiments of ego building, there is the affirmation of narrative and poetic works which question the boundary between autobiographical truth and fiction, further stimulating the lively, innovative and articulated debate on autobiography in Northern Europe, which has been in development since the 1980s. The 24 authors of the volume (Italian and Scandinavian scholars who are active in Italy or abroad, Scandinavian researchers and writers interested in Italy) illustrate the plurality and uses of autobiographical texts from the 16th century to current days, illuminate areas of a vast territory, investigate little studied texts or go back to questioning the classics.

    Description: The Italian contributions to the XIII International Congress of Slavists (Ljubljana, 15-21 August 2003) had a very limited circulation between the participants in the congress and the restricted circle of experts. Considering the high scientific value of the individual contributions, to which we continue to refer in the framework of Slavic literature, it was decided to publish these acts in the series "Library of Slavic Studies" also to celebrate the ten years of its existence. Faced with a consolidated tradition of studies in the philological and literary field, Italian Slavistics of the beginning of the millennium found itself facing new needs. On the one hand, a new generation of linguists has established themselves, who have developed a series of innovative research on Slavic languages, especially in the contrastive field. On the other hand, new research paths have developed in contemporary literature, especially in relation to the most recent historical circumstances which have seen profound cultural transformations in the Slavic countries themselves, with the need to reconstruct consolidated literary canons also on the basis of the literature of emigration. The same philological research has been able to question itself again on its role by taking up in a different form traditional issues such as the Cyril-Methodian question, the problem of biblical citations or the debate on the Latin Slavia and the Orthodox Slavia, as well as the more traditional ecdotic issues manifesting a new sensitivity starting from religious issues.     Description: This book was born from an observation and a desire. The starting point is that the multilingual nature of Andrea Zanzotto's poetry becomes almost invisible by virtue of being evident in the eyes of its readers. The babelic hypersensitivity of the petèl’s poet is certainly not absent in critical studies, yet this work addresses it in a systematic way for the first time, by investigating on the multiple connections between poetic writing and languages. The desire that accompanied this reflection was to lead it with a "prismatic" gaze, crossing the poetry's multilingualism and the poet’s translation practice, and summoning the many voices of its translators around the Zanzottian multivocality. A series of unpublished documents in the appendix, and the interventions of poets like Cecchinel, Demarcq and Rueff, alongside those of the best European experts of Zanzotto, add a special significance to this work. Speech given on June 26, 2007 at the Locanda da Lino in Solighetto (TV, Italy) on the occasion of the presentation of the book by F. Carbognin, L’«altro spazio». This correspondence encourages reflections on the Italian literary scene, as seen from the point of view of those who, like Margherita Guidacci, contributed to it by combining poetic activity (in Italian), translation (of a a third language as well), study and teaching of the English and American literature, and cultural journalism.     Description: The commentary of Lettere e rime which Chiara Matraini (1515-1604) published in Venice with the editor Moretti in 1597, when she was 82, intends to provide an organic analysis of the composition, of the relationship between the genres, of the modalities of the “imitatio” and of the philosophical, social and cultural substrate acting as a background in her last chansonnier. The study also focuses on her stylistic changes over a period of forty years (1555-1597), from the adherence to Petrarch and Bembo’s canon to the end-of-the-century Mannerism, as well as on the counter-reformist twist characterizing a parallel writing of philosophical and devotional nature, which can be seen here between the lines. The investigation also takes the liber of Lettere e rime as a deliberately organic and structured whole in the meeting between the letters and the poems. By virtue of its ‘marginality’ as well, this shows a complex work, emerging together with the many afterthoughts which animated the long, almost century-long, life of the author from Lucca.

In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: I saggi raccolti in Dentro e fuori il testo rappresentano una sintetica summa degli studi di Alberto Cadioli, mettendo in risalto alcuni dei passaggi più rilevanti – dal punto di vista teorico-metodologico – di una lunga attività di ricerca. Pur nella varietà e nella dinamicità dei percorsi, queste pagine rivelano la fedeltà a un presupposto che, già individuabile nei primi lavori, è rimasto sempre presente: la vocazione a indagare i nessi che stringono chi crea il testo letterario, chi lo porta alla stampa, chi lo riceve. «Fuori» e «dentro» il testo, dunque, coltivando una critica letteraria che, nelle prime indagini, utilizza gli strumenti della sociologia della letteratura e della storia dell’editoria, e poi via via quelli della filologia, in particolare dei testi a stampa e della filologia d’autore. Dall’editoria alla filologia, dunque, con l’obiettivo di approfondire la storia dei testi e della loro trasmissione, la storia della loro genesi e della mediazione editoriale che li ha portati ai lettori nelle forme di un oggetto storicamente e materialmente definito. Le riflessioni teoriche e le indicazioni metodologiche dei saggi qui proposti hanno spinto Cadioli a percorrere sentieri scarsamente battuti, a suggerire indirizzi di ricerca nuovi sui quali sono cresciuti e consolidati nuovi orientamenti critici, ormai radicati nel panorama degli studi sull’Otto-Novecento letterario.

    Description: The twenty-three essays of this volume represent the contributions of the Italian delegation to the 16th International Congress of Slavic Studies, which took place in Belgrade in August 2018. The essays, written in Italian, English, Russian and Serbian, are divided into three sections: linguistics, philology and Slavic literatures. Just as the range of the touched topics is very wide, so is their time span, going from the prehistoric and protohistoric eras to the present day. The covered topics extend from the Proto-Slavic language to the writing, linguistic and literary traditions of the Slavic ecclesiastical civilization, from the linguistic and cultural relations between Italy and Russia to a particular 18th-century Illyrian dictionary. In the field of synchronic linguistics, the essays include: a study of dialectology and sociolinguistics in the borderland between Ukraine and Belarus; the ways to express the concept of completeness in Russian; the study of some concessive constructs of the Russian language using the methods of “constructionist grammar”, a particular aspect of the Russian and Bulgarian verbal systems; and finally, the different suffixes used in the formation of the aspectual pairs in the Resian dialect. In the literary field, the essays topics range from Gumilev and Chlebnikov to literature and ecology; from Armenian writers who write in Russian to the neo-Latin poem “The bison’s song” and to the humanistic and Renaissance reflections in modern Ukrainian literature; from an Italian scholar of Serbian literature in the first half of the 20th century to the image of the “strong woman” in the Serbian literature of the same time. Therefore, thanks to their variety, these essays offer a very concrete idea of the several existing currents within the research in Slavic Studies in Italy.

    Description: Psychoanalysis spread earlier and faster in Russia than in Western Europe. According to the author, there are three main reasons for this. First, psychoanalysis is based on the fictional structure of patients’s narratives. In a literary-centric country such as Russia, the ‘literary character’ of psychoanalysis quickly attracts the Russian intelligentsia. Secondly, the formal similarities between literary and psychoanalytic language, and the close connection between the poetic word and the rhetoric of the unconscious, contribute to rendering Freudian language particularly familiar in Russia. Thirdly, the Silver Age, with its attention to the symbol, the ‘other’, and the double, contributes to increasing interest in the theory of the unconscious. This will continue until after the October Revolution as the state relies on psychoanalysis to help forge the new Soviet citizen. This ‘alliance’, however, is short-lived, and Freudian psychoanalytic theory will be ostracized from the 1930s up to the end of the Soviet regime.

    Description: Giorgio Trentin (1917-2013), eldest son of the anti-fascist exile Silvio and brother of the unionist Bruno, was one of the greatest connoisseurs, enthusiasts and 'defenders' of engraving art in Italy. With this conference promoted a few months after his death, the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice and the Centro documentazione e ricerca Trentin have brought together the researches of scholars from different backgrounds and the testimonies of those who knew Giorgio Trentin. The aim was the one of restoring unity to the two 'faces' of his figure: on one hand the civil and anti-fascist militancy (a characteristic and unmistakable mark of the family) on the other the commitment in the artistic field, which represented personal space of Giorgio or, better, his personal declination of that common militancy. To him, in fact, the engraving technique was an indispensable paradigm of moral rigour and the search for truth.

The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: The book offers a summary of over 1,400 letters on Hispanic matters written by Hispanic senders to Oreste Macrí over the course of fifty years (1950-1998). The salient events of Macrí's intellectual life (editorial assignments, conferences, translations) and the proximity of his correspondents to the hermetic environment emerge. Alongside Macrí, significant personalities of poets and critics are presented (Aurora de Albornoz, Joaquín Arce, Pablo Luis Ávila, Américo Castro, Rafael Lapesa, Fernando Lázaro Carreter, Francisco López Estrada, Alonso Zamora Vicente). The letters of Ramón Menéndez Pidal, Américo Castro, Isabel and Francisco García Lorca are collected and annotated in an Appendix.
