Abstract: This book contains the best papers accepted for presentation at the 3rd Springer Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG-3). The book is divided into three parts to distinguish research studies from the fields of (1) geological and geotechnical engineering, (2) geomechanical studies based on numerical and analytical methods, and (3) geo-informatics and remote sensing. The content of these papers provides new scientific knowledge for further understanding on landslides, new stabilization techniques, importance of geophysics for engineering geology investigations as well as new empirical approaches for easily predicting some physical and hydrogeomechanical properties of geomaterials. It also sheds the light on usage of different remote sensing technologies, mapping techniques in a geographic information systems environment along with some advanced signal processing, and deep learning approaches. The book is of interest to all researchers, practitioners, and students in the fields of geological and mining engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeomechanics, engineering geology, geotechnologies, groundwater and natural hazards, and analyses of some emerging earth processes and environmental variabilities.

A broad approach such as modelling, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistical models was applied in arid and semi-arid areas for management of the groundwater. These new approaches are currently in high demand. The book delves into the applications of these methods and will be a potential asset to the researchers worldwide. The book is a timely publication containing chapters based on primary data or/and extensive review chapters comprising new emerging techniques. Current high-demand research on management through the application of modelling, artificial intelligence and machine learning is the main selling point of this book.

Description / Table of Contents: Introduction -- Dimensional Stone -- Aggregates -- Portland Cement -- Lime -- Gypsum Products -- Concrete -- Mortar -- Ceramic Materials -- Metals and Alloys -- Bituminous Materials -- Geosynthetics and other Plastics -- Wood and Cork -- Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW).
Abstract: Construction Materials is a comprehensive textbook covering all raw materials and products related to the construction processes, and not only those applied to building structures. The book is organized to help readers achieve competent knowledge about construction materials. At the beginning of the book the author offers the general concepts, definitions, and standards adopted worldwide for these materials to be used along the book. The central part of the text covers the primary construction materials required to manufacture concrete and mortars, the most relevant construction materials in the last century. Expressly, concrete and mortar are treated in detail in dedicated chapters per component. In addition, the author addresses other relevant materials in construction such as ceramic materials, metals and alloys, bituminous materials, and geosynthetic materials. Finally, since the construction industry is one of the largest single waste producing sector in the world, the last chapter outlines the main types and characteristics of construction and demolition waste (e.g. recycled aggregates). The book appeals to students but also professionals interested in construction materials and construction and civil engineering.

Abstract: This book is devoted to the most important and urgent problems arising during the operation of underground gas storage facilities (UGS) and associated with the destruction of the reservoir and sand production into the wells. UGS facilities play a special role in ensuring high reliability of stable and guaranteed gas supplies to consumers. However, despite many years of experience in UGS well operation, there is still no sufficiently substantiated geomechanical model of reservoir failure and a mathematical description of the processes occurring in the reservoir-well system, taking into account the peculiarities of the mechanical behavior of reservoir rocks during cyclic injection and extraction of gas. As a result, there are no reliable criteria for establishing a rational regime for the operation of an UGS wells in conditions of a possible destruction of reservoir rocks. Further development of underground gas storage direction requires the introduction of innovative technologies that can be used both in the design of new UGS facilities and to extend the safe and efficient operation of existing underground gas storage facilities. To solve these problems, the most promising technologies, taking into account their efficiency, relatively low cost and environmental safety, are those based on the geomechanical approach. The book is addressed to specialists in the development and operation of underground gas storage facilities, as well as specialists in geomechanics of oil and gas fields. It can be useful for students and graduate students studying in the speciality "Development of oil and gas fields".
