Abstract
THE differential equations constructed by Dr. Martini and quoted by Dr. Lotka in NATURE of May 12, p. 633, namely, aroused my interest by the statement that they cannot be integrated in finite terms. I have noticed that in one particular case the integrals of the equations can be expressed in a moderately simple form, and that in this case Dr. Martini's second position of equilibrium, namely, is unattainable within a finite time unless it is permanent.
