Abstract

Stained thin-sections and freeze-fractured preparations of the carotenoid-less mutant strain R-26 of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides grown photosynthetically revealed 2 morphological kinds of intracellular membrane systems- spherical vesicles distributed throughout the cytoplasm and lamellae confined to the periphery of the cell. The lamellar membranes appeared to be large, flattened vesicles.
