Conclusions
The thermal and thermal catalytic gas-phase reactions of alkyl diazoacetates with excess vinyl chloride form the corresponding isomeric 2-chlorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid esters. The trans-isomer predominates and methyl diazoacetate gives maximum yield.
