New liquid crystalline material with a broad temperature range ferroelectric phase

Abstract

A new series of chiral liquid crystals having cyano group in the mesogenic core has been synthesized and characterized. The synthesized compounds exhibit a broad ferroelectric chiral smectic C mesophase with a high spontaneous polarization.
