The time structure of extreme summers in Central Europe between 1901 and 1980

Abstract
Using the cluster-analysis an attempt is made to define extreme hot and cold summers for the Central European region in the period from 1901 to 1980. 18 stations gave the basis of the investigation. As one result one may state a statistical correlation between the frequency of extreme summers and the annual mean temperature of the northern hemisphere.
Kurzfassung
Mit Hilfe der Cluster-Analyse wird versucht, für 18 europäische Stationen die im Zeitraum zwischen 1901 und 1980 aufgetretenen extrem heißen bzw. kalten Sommer zu bestimmen. Im Ergebnis dieser Untersuchungen konnte nachgewiesen werden, daß es eine statistisch gesicherte Korrelation zwischen der Häufigkeit des Auftretens extremer Sommer und dem Verlauf der nordhemisphärischen Jahresmitteltemperatur gibt.
