The National Accounts Unit of the CSO compiles and disseminates National Accounts statistics, which provide objective measures of the country’s level of economic activity and performance. They measure production, consumption, accumulation and external trade of the economy. Such measures enable governments to effectively manage their economies by formulating and implementing informed social and economic policies. Targets are set and progress is monitored.

National Accounts are used to provide, among others, a basis on which revenue and expenditure forecasts can be made. They enable businesses to make and take strategic decisions on the basis of observed and projected economic conditions, as depicted by these indicators. In addition, these Accounts are compiled in order to facilitate international comparisons.

The National Accounts statistics of the CSO is currently prepared in accordance with the United Nations System of National Accounts 2008 (SNA 2008).

The CSO has updated its benchmark year to 2011 and revised and rebased the GDP time series for the years 2000 to 2011. Key results can be found here: Key Results National Accounts Report 2015. The National Accounts Report 2015 includes
