Abstract
IN a recent letter to NATURE1, Dr. John R. Baker proposes a new nomenclature of the seasons. The eight new names formed by him (boredune, borepheuge, notodune, notopheuge ; homodune, homopheuge, heterodune, heteropheuge) are to make good the lack of denominations for periods longer than a month and independent of the geographical situation of the place where the speaker is living or of which he is speaking. I believe, however, that the introduction of eight new scientific terms of Greek extraction is quite unnecessary for this purpose.
