Abstract

The author presents a simple account of the relative intensities of the crystal field absorption bands, based on the formalism of the equivalent even-parity dipole moment operator. In distinction to Ballhausen and Liehr (1958) and Weakliem (1962) the author has been able to formulate the problem entirely within the frame of the weak crystal field approximation.
