Abstract

The response of two systems to 14.7 MeV neutrons was studied. The systems were: (1) 0.20 mmol ferrous sulphate, 5.0 mmol benzoic acid and 0.20 mmol xylenol orange in 0.05 N sulphuric acid and (2) 2,2,4-trimethylpentane+10% (by volume) ethanol+10% chlorobenzene+1*10-5 mol K-thymosulphonphthalein up to 0.1% water+HCl. The average neutron flux in the irradiation cell was measured by filling the cell with magnesium acetate solution. The neutron flux incident on the surface of the cell was measured by aluminium activation. The G-values and other details are given.
