Conclusions

  1. 1.

A method of projecting placement parameters for soil mixtures, which ensures high-quality work and operational reliability of the structure, has been developed during investigations of mixtures of morainic loams and topsoils for the building of dikes containing the upper pool of the Zagorsk water-storage power plant.

  2. 2.

A procedure is proposed for the building of earthen structures formed from mixtures of clayey soils, which does not require their mixing, and calls for the placement of these soils in a certain ratio; this will significantly lower the construction cost and make it possible to perform the earthwork with scrapers and excavators.

  3. 3.

The quantitative ratio of components in the soil mix for which an ordered fill texture is formed, where the lower-strength soil is completely enclosed in the space formed by the higher-strength soil, is substantiated.

  4. 4.

Laws governing the variation in the structural properties of the soil mixtures as a function of the quantitative ratio of topsoil to morainic loam in the blend are investigated.

  5. 5.

An increase in the shear strength of the mass being built up from the soil mixture, and also the optimal ratio of the linear dimensions of the structure and the components of the soil mixture with increasing grain size of the components, and also the optimal ratio of the linear dimensions of the structure and components in the soil mixture are established.

  6. 6.

A new method of monitoring the quality of the compaction of soil mixtures is developed and implemented.

  7. 7.

It is demonstrated that use of soil mixtures as a material for the building of engineering structures should be considered a promising trend in hydrotechnical, agricultural, highway, industrial, and other branches of construction, since in addition to a saving generated from use of soils that overburden deposits in a blend with soils of the useful stratum, damage to the environment is reduced due to a reduction in the area of the quarries and spoil banks.
