Abstract

Progress of the design study carried out y the Instituto de Astrophysica de Canarias and Royal Greenwich Observatory joint project office for an 8 m aperture Optical/Infrared Telescope. This includes the development of an active pneumatic support system for both the radial and axial supports of an 8 m diameter thin meniscus mirror and the investigations of new technology encoding systems.
