Keywords: fold ; thrust ; belts ; reservoirs
Notes: The complex interaction of fold and thrust processes, and their effects on potential reservoir quality and deliverability makes accurate characterization of such fields and reserves extremely difficult. This volume brings together leading academic and industry geoscientists to present new techniques and case studies, and to capture an up-to-date assessment of our understanding of fold and thrust belts globally. | Contents: 11 January 2019 --- Quantifying vertical movements in fold and thrust belts: subsidence uplift and erosion in Kurdistan Northern Iraq / Richard Tozer, Michael Hertle, Henrik Ingermann Petersen and Kim Zinck-Joergensen / Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 490, https://doi.org/10.1144/SP490-2019-118 --- 9 January 2019 --- Inversion of the North-Iberian hyperextended margin: the role of exhumed mantle indentation during continental collision / Jesus Garcia-Senz, Antonio Pedrera Parias, Concepción Ayala Galán, Ana Ruiz-Constán, Alejandro Robador Moreno and Luis Roberto Rodríguez-Fernández / Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 490, https://doi.org/10.1144/SP490-2019-112 --- 8 January 2019 --- Middle Miocene evolution and structural style of the Diapir Fold Zone, Eastern Carpathian Bend, Romania: insights from scaled analogue modelling / Dan Mircea Tamas, Zsolt Schleder, Alexandra Tamas, Csaba Krezsek, Bianca Copot and Sorin Filipescu / Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 490, https://doi.org/10.1144/SP490-2019-091 --- Along-strike variation of thin-skinned thrusting style controlled by pre-existing basement structure in the easternmost Jura Mountains (Northern Switzerland) / Alexander Malz, Herfried Madritsch, Peter Jordan, Beat Meier and Jonas Kley / Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 490, https://doi.org/10.1144/SP490-2019-090

Keywords: geology ; engineering geology ; military use ; military mining
Notes: This book complements the Geological Society's Special Publication 362: Military Aspects of Hydrogeology. Generated under the auspices of the Society's History of Geology and Engineering Groups, it contains papers from authors in the UK, USA, Germany and Austria. Substantial papers describe some innovative engineering activities, influenced by geology, undertaken by the armed forces of the opposing nations in World War I. These activities were reactivated and developed in World War II. Examples include trenching from World War I, tunnelling and quarrying from both wars, and the use of geologists to aid German coastal fortification and Allied aerial photographic interpretation in World War II. The extensive introduction and other chapters reveal that ‘military geology’ has a longer history. These chapters relate to pre-twentieth century coastal fortification in the UK and the USA; conflict in the American Civil War; long-term ‘going’ assessments for German forces; tunnel repair after wartime route denial in Hong Kong; and tunnel detection after recent insurgent improvisation in Iraq. | Contents: Military use of geologists and geology: a historical overview and introduction / Edward P.
