Keywords: risk management ; natural disasters ; floods ; disasters ; Tsunami
Notes: This book addresses different aspects of natural hazards and vulnerabilities, with a focus on prevention and protection. It consists of nine chapters, five on flood events addressing vulnerabilities, risk assessments, impacts, sensitivity analyses, and mitigation measures, two on climate change and reconstruction of natural hazard events such as avalanches and rockslides, and two on tsunamis and volcanoes. All chapters provide relevant information and useful elements for readers interested and concerned about the lack of action or its ineffectiveness in containing the vulnerabilities and risks of possible natural hazards worldwide. | Contents: 1. Keywords: Remote Sensing ; Sea Surface Temperature ; Infrared ; Microwave ; Accuracy
Notes: We are actively seeking contributions to a Special Issue of Remote Sensing on “Sea Surface Temperature (SST) Retrievals from Remote Sensing." SSTs are currently retrieved from infrared sensors on both polar orbiting and geostationary platforms, as well as from microwave sensors. Infrared sensors have the advantage of retrievals at higher resolutions, but are limited to cloud free conditions, while microwave sensors are lower resolution, but essentially provide all weather retrievals. Geostationary satellites have the advantage of essentially viewing the same area on the Earth continuously, thus improving coverage. | Contents: Does Sea Surface Temperature Contribute to Determining Range Limits and Expansion of Mangroves in Eastern South America (Brazil)? / by Arimatéa C. Basingstoke, Hampshire : : Palgrave Macmillan,
Description / Table of Contents: This handbook offers the first comprehensive, state-of-the-field guide to past weather and climate and their role in human societies. Bringing together dozens of international specialists from the sciences and humanities, this volume describes the methods, sources, and major findings of historical climate reconstruction and impact research. Its chapters take the reader through each key source of past climate and weather information and each technique of analysis; through each historical period and region of the world; through the major topics of climate and history and core case studies; and finally through the history of climate ideas and science. Using clear, non-technical language, The Palgrave Handbook of Climate History serves as a textbook for students, a reference guide for specialists and an introduction to climate history for scholars and interested readers.
