Kurzfassung: This edited book focus on highlighting the evolution of Indian agriculture over the past 75 years of independence, covering every sector, viz. crop science, horticulture, management of biotic & abiotic stress, post-harvest quality management, livestock, fisheries, mechanization, marketing and human resource development. The book has 30 chapters from most experienced researchers and academicians who are actively engaged in research work on the subject area of the book. The book is in line with the strategy for new India @ 75’ brought out by NITI Ayog. It highlights India’s success stories in innovation, technology, enterprise and efficient management together to achieve overall growth while making available food, required nutrition and others ecological services. It also asses the India’s preparedness in terms of commitment toward sustainable development goal SDG). The book is a relevant reading material for both students and researchers and policy makers.

Notizen: We report a strong ac green electroluminescence (EL) in powder layers of terbium doped gadolinium oxysulfide (Gd2O2S:Tb) with methyl methacrylate as binder. An intensity of the order of 30 nits (Cd/m2) has been achieved. The EL emission spectra shows line emissions corresponding to 5D3 and 5D4 fluorescing levels of Tb3+ ions. A very sharply rising B-V curve normally related to insulator-phosphor interface properties of a thin film electroluminescent device has been observed in these cells. This indicates the possibilities of barrier formation due to the localized space charge region in the absence of any prominent interfaces leading to impact excitation of Tb3+ ions. This has further been confirmed by the excitation spectrum of Gd2O2S:Tb phosphor, which reveals Tb3+ impurity absorption bands related to 4f8 shell transitions.

Notizen: The ohmic mobility μ0 and the warm electron coefficient β of the electrons moving one-dimensionally in a quantum well wire (QWW) of In0.53Ga0.47As are investigated for lattice temperatures in the range of 4–10 K. Deformation potential acoustic, piezoelectric, ionized-impurity, and alloy scatterings are included considering the nonequipartition of phonons. β values are calculated by two models: one using a heated Fermi–Dirac distribution function, and the other using a more general moment method. Momentum relaxation is found to be controlled predominantly by alloy scattering. μ0 is larger for a QWW of greater cross section and decreases slowly with the increase of the lattice temperature. In both models used here, β is negative; its magnitude falls with increasing lattice temperature and is greater for larger cross sections of the QWW. However, ||β|| is larger in the heated Fermi–Dirac distribution function model.

Notizen: Small-signal ac mobility of two-dimensional (2D) degenerate hot electrons in a GaAs square quantum well is studied on a heated drifted Fermi–Dirac distribution function for the carriers. Carrier energy loss via longitudinal optic (LO) phonons, and the momenta losses via LO, acoustic and ionized impurity scatterings are considered. The ac mobility is found to drop off with frequency beyond 100 GHz although the drift velocity starts to lag behind the applied field at a lower frequency. The ac mobility μac and the phase angle φ increase with the rise of the channel width and the 2D carrier concentration. However, the 3-dB cut-off frequency f3 dB is found to decrease with increasing channel width. The values of μac and f3dB are higher but those of φ are lower at 300 K than that at 77 K. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: We report here the design, fabrication, and testing of an integrated thermocouple gauge. The gauge uses a thin-film Cr heater and a thin-film Cu–Cr differential thermocouple on a 5-×3-mm glass substrate. The thermocouple measures the difference between the heater and the substrate temperature. Calibration of the thin-film Cu–Cr thermocouple gauge was done by using a standard K-type thermocouple as reference. At a constant difference temperature the measured power input to the heater is a function of the surrounding vapor pressure. The thermocouple gauge was calibrated using a McLeod gauge with He, Ar, N2, H2O, and CO2 gases. Our measurements show that the range of the gauge can possibly be extended to the μTorr range. This gauge uses a standard thin-film processing technique for fabrication resulting in a lower cost of production. Also, small size makes this gauge versatile and unique in comparison to many commercial gauges.

Notizen: The cytological status of plantlets regenerated from shoot apical meristems of Pisum sativum was investigated. Chromosome counts in root apices of in vitro regenerated plants showed a preponderance of diploid cells. Moreover, the karyotypes of root-tips from plants derived from culture and from normal plants were basically the same. Topics such as the treatment of chromosomal armlength data, simple statistical comparison of samples derived from normal and regenerated plants are discussed.
