Notes: Some polyketones were prepared from p-xylene, chloroacetylchloride, 1,2-dichloroethane and dichloromethane using anhydrous aluminiumtrichloride and carbon disulfide as solvent. The resins thus obtained have been characterized by IR spectra and number average molecular weight. The thermal properties have been studied by thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. All the resins were tested for their biological activity against Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus niger. The results show that the growth of the tested organisms can be controlled by the polyketone resins.

Notes: The viscoelastic response of plasticized PVC was determined from stress-relaxation data over a wide range of time at different temperatures. The relaxation modulus as a function of time was determined from these data. The relaxation curves were then shifted horizontally to obtain a master curve at a reference temperature. The amount of shift was evaluated using the WLF equation. The coefficients C10 and C20 used in the equation for the PVC were determined according to the method of reduced variables.

Notes: Polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) using Ce(IV) as initiator in aqueous nitric acid solution in the presence of sodium lauryl sulphate (NaLS) has been studied kinetically at a temperature range of 25-35°C. The rate of polymerization (Rp) increases with increasing concentration of NaLS, and it was also proportional to [MMA]2; but, in the presence of NaLS, the change of Rp with respect to [Ce(IV)] and [H+] were not linear and similarly the rate of Ce(IV) disappearance was not proportional to its original concentration. The overall activation energy of the polymerization process in presence of 0.01M NaLS was found to decrease by ∼ 7.0 kcal mol-1. The monomer-micelle association constant has been calculated to be 5.135 × 104 mol-1 L. The polymer obtained in surfactant medium is sparingly soluble in benzene and DMSO. From infrared spectra clear evidence of vinyl polymerization was obtained.

Description / Table of Contents: Aliphatic amines as inhibitors for acetic acidExperimental work with methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and cyclohexyl amines and cold rolled brass in 0.05 to 0.5 N acetic acid have shown, that inhibition arrives at its maximum when the solution is neutralized by the added amine; higher amine doses may increase corrosion.

Description / Table of Contents: 2-Benzimidazolethiol as a corrosion inhibitor for copper in acetic acid and hydrochloric acid solutionsAn attempt has been made to evaluate the inhibitive power of 2-benzimidazole-thiol for corrosion of copper in acetic acid and hydrochloric acid solutions. The substance acts as an excellent inhibitor for copper in both the systems. This inhibitive action of 2-benzimidazolethiol can be attributed to chelate formation with the metal ion.Polarization measurements reveal that the inhibition is governed principally by the cathodic polarization.

Description / Table of Contents: Action of sulphur containing inhibitors on the corrosion of 63/37 brass in trichloroacetic acidTrichloroacetic acid is highly corrosive to brass. Sodium thioglycolate, sodium diethyl dithio carbamate and carbon disulphide have been studied as corrosion inhibitors for brass (63/37) in trichloroacetic acid. The inhibitive power of sulphur-containing organic compounds is due to chelate formation, the chelate adhering strongly to the metal surface. The efficiencies of above stated inhibitors were found in the following order: \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm Na - DDC}\,{\rm 〉 }\,{\rm CH}_{\rm 2} {\rm (SH)COONa}\,{\rm 〉 }\,{\rm CS}_{\rm 2} $$\end{document}.
Notes: Trichloressigsäure greift Messing stark an.

Description / Table of Contents: p-anisidine as a corrosion inhibitor for brass 63 37 in acetic acidThe author have studied the influence of p-anisidine on the corrosion of brass 63 37 in acetic acid (0.05 and 0.5N). According to the result obtained anisidine is a very efficient inhibitor concentration. In view of the fact that application of an external current gives rise to more pronounced polarization of the cathode it appears justified to conclude that the inhibition is cathodically controlled.

Description / Table of Contents: Amine als Korrosionsinhibitoren für KupferDie Untersuchung der inhibierenden Wirkung einiger Pyridin- und Anilinderivate auf die Korrosion von Kupfer in Persulfatlösungen ermöglicht die Aufstellung der folgenden Reihenfolge abnehmender Inhibitorwirkung: 2,6-Lutidin - 2-Picolin - Pyridin - m-Anisidin - p-Phenetidin - Anilin.
Notes: The study of the inhibiting effect of certain pyridine and aniline derivatives on the corrosion of copper in persulphate solutions enables the compounds to be arranged in the following series of decreasing inhibiting power; 2,6-lutidine - 2-picoline - pyridine - m-anisidine - p-phenetidine - aniline.Inhibition may generally be attributed to the adsorption of organic molecules, nitrogen being an electron donor and becoming attached to the metal surface. Symmetric substitution by methyl groups in the pyridine molecule increases the inhibiting effect. In the case of aniline derivatives m-anisidine is superior to the other compounds studied. On the base of electrochemical experiments it may be concluded that the reaction is under cathodic control, the cathode being extremely polarized at high current densities.

Notes: Among the inhibitor studied - o-, m-and p-toluidines, acridine, phenazine and xanthine - o-toluidine and acridine have turned out to be excellent inhibitors of the corrosion of brass in nitric acid. As to the toluidine series the inhibiting power of the ortho isomer is superior to that of the para isomer. On the base of the results obtained the following order of efficiency may be established - o-toluidine - p-toluidine - m-toluidine - acridine - xanthine - phenazine. The efficiency is probably due to the elimination of nitrous acid (by diazotization) and to adsorption of onium type ions at a metal surface. NH2 groups give rise to an activation of all the positions in the cyclic molecule.

Notes: The inhibiting effect of some phenols on the corrosion of iron in 0.5 N hydrochloric acid depends from the concentration and the constitution of the particular inhibitor. The effect decreases in the following order; p-thiocresol 〉 pyrogallol 〉 resorcinol 〉 phenol 〉 p-cresol 〉 m-cresol 〉 o-cresol. The low inhibiting power of the cresols appears to be due to the cresol appears to be due to the electron donating capacity of th CH3 groups and their interaction with OH groups which is an electron donator, too. The SH and OH groups appear to facilitate the adsorption on cathodic sites as do the π-electrons of the aromatic annulus.
