Abstract An unconventional Brillouin-spectroscopic technique is proposed to determine elastic stiffness tensor coefficients of molecular crystals. With 90A Brillouin measurements on thin monodomains of melt-crystallized films (about 30 μm thickness) the need to grow large single crystals is avoided. Measurements on sym-difluorotetrachloroethane and perfluoroeicosane are presented.
