Description: Fe-doped TiO 2 nanotubes are prepared by the combination of sol-gel process with hydrothermal treatment. The morphology and crystalline structure of TiO 2 nanotubes are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction respectively (XRD). Fe doping induces a structural transformation from anatase to rutile. The temperature dependence of the ac electrical conductivity is investigated in the temperature range 303-413 K. Positive temperature coefficient of resistance is observed in the Fe doped TiO 2 nanotubes. PL spectrum shows the presence of oxygen vacancies and self trapped excitons in Fe doped TiO 2 nanotubes and undoped samples.

Description: Nowadays, most of the big Universities and campuses have Shuttle cabs running in them to cater the transportational needs of the students and faculties. While some shuttle services ask for a meagre sum to be paid for the usage, no digital payment system is onboard these vehicles to go truly cashless. Even more troublesome is the fact that sometimes during the day, some of these cabs run with bare number of passengers, which can result in unwanted budget loss to the shuttle operator. The main purpose of this paper is to create a system with two types of applications: A web portal and an Android app, to digitize the Shuttle cab industry. This system can be used for digital cashless payment feature, tracking passengers, tracking cabs and more importantly, manage the number of shuttle cabs in every route to maximize profit. This project is built upon an ASP.NET website connected to a cloud service along with an Android app that tracks and reads the passengers ID using an attached ba...

Description: The PK-3 Plus laboratory on board the International Space Station is used to study the interaction between metallic spheres and a complex plasma. We show that the metallic spheres significantly affect both the local plasma environment and the microparticle dynamics. The spheres charge under the influence of the plasma and repel the microparticles, forming cavities surrounding the spheres. The size of the cavity around a sphere is used to study the force balance acting on microparticles at the cavity edge. We show that the ion drag force and pressure force from other microparticles balances with the electric force acting from the sphere to within 20%. At intermediate distances from the sphere surface, the interaction between the microparticles and the metallic spheres is attractive due to the drag force stemming from the ions which are moving towards the highly charged spheres. The spheres thus strongly affect the plasma fluxes. This modification of the plasma flux can lead to an...

Description: Structural health monitoring (SHM) is an essential component of futuristic civil, mechanical and aerospace structures. It detects the damages in system or give warning about the degradation of structure by evaluating performance parameters. This is achieved by the integration of sensors and actuators into the structure. Study of damage detection process in piezoelectric sensor and actuator integrated sandwich cantilever beam is carried out in this paper. Possible skin-core debond at the root of the cantilever beam is simulated and compared with undamaged case. The beam is actuated using piezoelectric actuators and performance differences are evaluated using Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) sensors. The methodology utilized is the voltage/strain response of the damaged versus undamaged beam against transient actuation. Finite element model of piezo-beam is simulated in ANSYS TM using 8 noded coupled field element, with nodal degrees of freedoms are translations in the x, ...

Description: Experimental observations are presented of unusual (‘abnormal’) microparticles, having trajectories very different from those of the majority of microparticles in the particle cloud in PK-3 Plus chamber (on board the International Space Station). To quantitatively study the mechanism driving this ‘irregular’ motion, we performed a series of experiments with quasi-two-dimensional complex plasmas in a modified GEC RF reference cell in a ground-based laboratory. The results show that the average particle velocity increases with illumination laser power, particularly for the ‘abnormal’ particles. We suggest that the photophoretic force provides an important contribution to the drive, and briefly discuss the mechanism leading to this effect. Optical microscopy results indicate that the ‘abnormal’ particles could be those having deformations or defects on their surface.
