    Notizen: The overtone spectroscopy and intramolecular vibrational relaxation dynamics of CH chromophore in the fluoroform molecule is studied by a three-dimensional (3D) time-dependent wave-packet method, and the results are compared with the experiment and with those of a 2D (stretch–bend) wave-packet method. A third mode (CF symmetrical stretch) is included in order to explain the long time dynamics and the combination bands between the CF stretch fundamental and the Fermi polyad frequencies. The comparison with the 2D study is carried out by the use of a full set of dynamical and spectroscopic variables, based on the autocorrelation function of the bright states of each polyad. The spectroscopic variables then follow by Fourier transforming the autocorrelation function, while the dynamical ones emerge via survival probability in the frame of the dynamical statistical ensemble. These include several relaxation times and the number of cells and rates of phase–space exploration. The specific effect of the third mode is monitored by following the reduced dynamics of the system irrespective of the polyad stretch–bend dynamics, through population evolution. Dynamical results clearly reveal the third mode effects at very short and long times. In the last regime, we can observe a great span of different behaviors, depending on how the third mode excited states are involved. This richer variety of dynamical patterns cannot be observed in a two-mode model and justifies the present work. The spectroscopic results of both models are in good agreement with the experimental results. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: Both the critical current intensity at zero applied magnetic field Ic(T), from nitrogen temperature up to the critical temperature, and the normal-state resistivity ρn(T) have been measured in granular Bi1.5Pb0.5Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy (BiPbSCCO) superconductors, with different granular characteristics. It is found that the combination [Ic(T)/P][ρn(0)/ρ'n], where ρ(0) is the residual normal-state resistivity, ρ'n is the temperature derivative and P is the sample's perimeter, is essentially constant from sample to sample at any temperature. It thus constitutes a universal temperature-dependent critical current for the polycrystalline BiPbSCCO family. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: The transient deformation of an axisymmetric capsule freely suspended in a pure straining flow is studied, for sudden or periodic variations of the intensity of the rate of strain. The particle Reynolds number is supposed to be very small and the problem is solved numerically by means of the boundary integral method. In the case of a sudden start of flow, the time response of the capsule can be approximated by an exponential function, and is thus characterized by only two parameters: the equilibrium deformation D∞ and the characteristic response time τs. The respective influence of viscosity ratio, membrane elasticity, and initial particle geometry is analyzed. The dynamic response of the capsule subjected to periodic variations of the rate of strain is also studied. The response time τs appears to be an appropriate parameter to estimate the capsule adaptability to changing flow conditions. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: The role of membrane surface viscosity is investigated in the transient response of an axisymmetric capsule following a sudden start of external flow. Results obtained in a recent study for capsules with a hyperelastic membrane [Phys. Fluids 12, 948 (2000)] are extended to account for membrane viscosity. The common feature between hyperelastic and viscoelastic membranes is the time evolution of capsule deformation which can be fitted to an exponential function and thus characterized with only two parameters, the deformation at steady state D∞ and the response time τs. Membrane and bulk viscosity have quasilinear and independent effects on the transient response. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: Precision measurements of critical current densities at zero applied magnetic field Jc for six granular Y1Ba2Cu3O7−δ samples have been performed by using a low frequency induction method. Also, the intergrain resistivity ρct for each sample has been extracted from the normal-state resistivity. It is found experimentally that at any temperature distance from the transition, Jc is inversely proportional to ρct. A way to estimate Jc from the resistivity of the granular samples in the normal state is thus open.

    Beschreibung: The Brockhouse project at the Canadian Light Source plans the construction of three beamlines, two wiggler beamlines, and one undulator beamline, that will be dedicated to x-ray diffraction and scattering. In this work, we will describe the undulator beamline main components and performance parameters, obtained from ray tracing using XOP-SHADOW codes. The undulator beamline will operate from 4.95 to 21 keV, using a 20 mm period hybrid undulator placed upstream of the wiggler in the same straight section. The beamline optics design was developed in cooperation with the Brazilian Synchrotron - LNLS. The beamline will have a double crystal monochromator with the options of Si(111) or Si(311) crystal pairs followed by two mirrors in the KB configuration to focus the beam at the sample position. The high brilliance of the undulator source will produce a very high flux of ∼10 13 photons/s and high energy resolution into a small focus of 170 μm horizontal and 20-60 μm vertical, depending on the optical configuration and energy chosen. Two multi-axis goniometer experimental stations with area detectors and analyzers are foreseen to enable diffraction, resonant and inelastic scattering experiments, and SAXS/WAXS experiments with high resolution and time resolving capabilities.
