Notizen: Many high J pure rotational transitions of 4HeH+ up to the dissociation threshold have been measured by infrared diode laser absorption spectroscopy between 590 and 920 cm−1 in an air cooled H2/He discharge. Additional centrifugal distortion terms up to J12 have been included in the rotational Hamiltonian to fit these transitions. Ten new vibration rotational transitions have also been detected in the same spectral region, arising from both low (v=1,2) and high (v=4–7) vibrational states. Some of the transitions involving high v (v=6,7) are observed as stimulated emission signals. The measured rotational transitions are in excellent agreement with ab initio calculations based on the form of the adiabatic potential model developed by Fournier and Richard. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Infrared absorption spectra of jet-cooled CH3Mn(CO)5 and CD3Mn(CO)5 in the region of the two strongly allowed CO vibrations have been measured using diode lasers. Analysis of the spectra yielded values for the band centers and rotational constants for parallel bands of both isotopic species, and for the perpendicular band of CH3Mn(CO)5; the latter also provided an estimate of the Coriolis constant for this vibration. The spectra were consistent with essentially free rotation of the methyl group. The rotational constants were in close agreement with those derived from electron diffraction data: however, the B-rotational constants provide a revised estimate for the axial Mn–CO bond length.

Notizen: The infrared absorption spectrum of the ν3 fundamental band of the CD3 radical has been detected by diode laser absorption spectroscopy. The CD3 radical was produced by excimer laser photolysis of CD3I at 248 nm or (CD3)2CO at 193 nm. Molecular parameters of the v3=1 vibrational state were determined from a least-squares fit to 62 rotation–vibration transitions. In this fit, molecular parameters describing the ground state were constrained to those obtained from previous spectroscopic studies of the ν2 parallel IR band [J. M. Frye, T. J. Sears, and D. Leitner, J. Chem. Phys. 88, 5300 (1988)]. The molecular parameters determined in the present work are the band origin ν0=2381.088 60(84), B'=4.758 737(40), C'=2.373 297(34), (ζC)3=0.476 278(72), q3=0.003 76(59), D'N =0.000 187 9(5), DNK =−0.000 341 0(12), D'K =0.000 143 7(8), ηN =−0.000 005 5(36), η'K =0.000 060(35), and qN =0.000 063(17), all in cm−1 with one standard deviation in parentheses. The derived molecular parameters were compared with those for the CH3 radical v3=1 level determined previously [T. Amano, P. Bernath, C. Yamada, Y. Endo, and E. Hirota, J. Chem. Phys. 77, 5284 (1982)]. The molecular parameters of the v3=1 state of the CD3 and CH3 radicals follow the expected isotopic relationships. We have also found that the determined molecular parameters reasonably satisfy the approximate planarity relationships [J. K. G. Watson, J. Mol. Spectrsoc. 65, 123 (1977)] and the sign of the l-type doubling constant is consistent with a planar equilibrium structure.

Notizen: Infrared absorption spectra of Ni(CO)4 in the region of its 510 band have been measured in supersonic jets using diode lasers and FTIR. The 510 band consisted of an intense Q branch and well-resolved P and R branches which clearly showed the effects of nuclear spin statistics. The analysis of 114 fundamental band transitions yielded the following effective parameters, which include small Coriolis effects (3σ uncertainties in parenthesis) ν˜0=2061.314 4(45) cm−1, B0=0.035 721 3(30) cm−1, B5=0.035 670 6(30) cm−1. The band center is blue-shifted by 3.5 cm−1 from the room temperature value due to the contribution of hot bands and higher-rotational distributions in the room temperature spectra. Weaker features near the 510 Q branch in the diode laser spectra are assigned to the Q branches of two hot bands. Their spectra, optimized using higher concentrations of Ni(CO)4 in He or Ar seed gas, were analyzed to give rotation, vibration–rotation and anharmonicity parameters. The effective hot band centers are: ν˜0(510411) =2060.996 4(50) cm−1, ν˜0(510811) =2061.114 8(48) cm−1.

Notizen: Infrared laser absorption spectra of H2O+ have been recorded in an ac discharge using velocity modulation detection. Eighty-five lines of the 210 fundamental and 20 lines of the 221 hot band were used to derive rotation, spin-rotation, and distortion parameters for the ground state and the first two vibrationally excited states of the bending mode. The results are compared with those from analysis of the A˜–X˜ band system and from rotational and vibration–rotation laser spectra, as well as with recent ab initio results obtained using MRCI wave functions.

Notizen: Far infrared laser magnetic resonance (LMR) spectra of metastable (2p3)2D nitrogen atoms have been measured using laser lines in carbonyl fluoride (COF2) at 1135 μm and methanol (CH3OH) at 1224 μm. The concentration of N 2D was optimized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) using a hybrid EPR/LMR spectrometer. The far infrared cavity of this spectrometer was designed to oscillate at wavelengths longer than 1 mm. The LMR spectra were analyzed using g factors derived from the EPR spectrum [Radford and Evenson, Phys. Rev. 168, 70 (1968)] and yield a precise value of the 2D5/2–2D3/2 fine structure separation of −261 447.7(2) MHz, −8.720 957(7) cm−1(2σ).

Notizen: Two bands of the A 2Πu←X 2Σ+g transition of Si−2 lying in the mid-infrared region have been detected using diode laser velocity modulation spectroscopy. The anion was generated in an air cooled low pressure ac discharge through mixtures of silane and hydrogen, and 130 lines of the (1,0) and (2,0) bands lying between 670 and 810 cm−1 and 1200 to 1340 cm−1 respectively were measured and assigned. A fit to standard Hamiltonians for 2Σ and 2Π states yielded the most precise spectroscopic constants so far obtained for the anion. These have been used to derive several equilibrium parameters for the A state. The equilibrium internuclear distance of the A state is re=2.182986(16) A(ring). The fine structure and equilibrium parameters are compared with earlier low resolution results and with ab initio calculations on Si−2. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Doppler limited infrared laser spectra of H2 and D2 have been recorded in an ac discharge with diode laser sources and assigned to Δv=0 and ±1 sequence bands of the a–c system. Intense absorption signals from atomic hydrogen were also detected and used to confirm that some molecular spectra occurred in stimulated emission; as was found for a known D2 laser transition. Several of the diode spectra recorded at shorter wavelengths (Δv=1 sequences) cover regions previously observed by FTIR emission experiments on the a–c system. Both fine and hyperfine structure are revealed by the present studies and a preliminary analysis shows that while the a 3Σ+g state has negligible fine structure (at this resolution), hyperfine effects are apparent and are modeled using a bβS coupling case.
