Notes:
Summary 1. The dense spike-like inflorescence of Melaleuca nesophila, which often grows out vegetatively after flowering, is composed of several three-flowered dichasia. 2. The organs of the flower delop in the following sequence: five sepals — five petals — five epipetalous protuberances (the primordia of stamen fascicles) —three carpels. 3. On the epipetalous protuberances the stamens arise in basipetal succession and in one row. This happens only after the formation of primordia of the gynoecium. 4. The ontogenesis of the flower supports the conception that a stamen fascicle is a branched stamen. 5. The histological pictures show, that sepals, petals and epipetalous protuberances develop from the dermatogen, subdermatogen and central meristem, while the stamens and carpels originate only from the dermatogen and subdermatogen.
