Description: Equations are presented for the growth or decay rates of moving and deforming vortex sheets (gust fronts) and shock waves. The equations exhibit a cross-coupling between these two types of surface discontinuity.

    Publication Date: 2016-06-07
Description: Formulas are given for determining a conserved property of a storm and its centroid from an scalar field that has a tendency equation. The velocity of the centroid is also given. These formulas depend only on fields that are external to the storm.

Description: System, which consists of vertical semispan hydrofoil anchored in water bed and set at angle of attack with respect to ambient water flow, works by keeping pollutants concentrated within long trailing vortex generated by hydrofoil and either deflecting vortex away from sensitive regions or sweeping it from side to side for rapid dispersion.

Description: System consists of negative-lift airfoil mounted at or near top of smokestack without obstructing flow of effluents from stack. Controls adjust negative lift and drag of airfoil, for changing orientation of airfoil to maintain proper airflow over foil and for adjusting its vertical location with respect to top of smokestack.

    Publication Date: 2019-06-27
Description: A method is disclosed for controlling the dispersion of effluents in a flowing liquid. A vortex generator for creating a distinct recirculating vortical flow is disposed in a flowing liquid and effluents are discharged into the vortical flow. The effluents are entrained in the vortical flow and by selectively positioning the vortex generator the dispersion of the entrained effluents can be controlled.
