Abstract The character of interaction between the cercal and tympanal systems was studied in male crickets Gryllus bimaculatus. Experiments were carried out on non-copulated males at the age of 7 days (copulative period). A complex of directed motor reactions in response to stimulation of animals with conspecific acoustic signals was analyzed. Directed motor reactions of males without hormonal pathology and under conditions of experimental hormonal pathology (after ablation of corpora allata) as well as those before and after reversible inactivation of the cercal receptors were studied. Data are obtained on participation of male corpora allata hormones in providing effects of the cercal system on the ethological result of functioning of the tympanal system. A hypothesis is put forward about the existence of a neuroendocrine mechanism for realization of defensive and territorial acoustic behavior of the 7-day-old male crickets.
