Objective: The dosage form of Sanqi Shangyao tablets was reformed and made the pastes. Methods: Starch and Zinc oxide were used as the excipients of the pastes. Glycerol was used as a wetting agent and lauriazone was used as a penetration enhancer. On the basis of the single factor test, the orthogonal test L 9 (3 3 ) was used to screen the matrix prescription. The best proportion of the matrix prescription were obtained by investigating the viscosity, heat resistance and cold resistance test, skin tactility and fluidity of the pastes matrix. Results: The best formula for screening was the total dosage of starch and Zinc oxide was 6.0 g (2:1), glycerol dosage was 2.0 g, and the dosage of Azone was 0.3 g. Conclusion: The pastes obtained by orthogonal test is better in the aspects of stickiness, heat resistance, cold resistance, skin touch, and fluidity, and the preparation of the Sanqi Shangyao pasters is simple and feasible.
