Notes: Cold cathodes coated with oxide conductive materials, such as indium tin oxide and tin oxide, were applied to dc gas discharges of a sealed-off CO2 laser. Laser power enhancement and stable gas discharge, two areas of laser performance, were affected, in contrast to the uncoated metallic cathode. Mass spectrometric study revealed a correlation of laser power enhancement and an increase in the CO2 content associated with these coated cathodes.

Notes: Microstructure and dielectric properties of Ba0.62Sr0.38TiO3 ceramics doped with x mol%(x=0.2~0.6) Y2O3 were investigated. SEM showed that Y3+ can accelerate growth of the grains at first, then turn to inhabit growth of the grains with further addition of Y3+ above 0.8mol%. The experimentalresults showed that the dielectric constants were improved with the additive amount of Y3+ increasing, ifthe amount of Y3+ increased continuously, the dielectric constants will drop, whereas the dielectric lossesof the samples descended rapidly in the beginning, then went up obviously with further addition of Y3+above 1.0mol%, the optimal dielectric constant and dielectric loss could reach 6700 and 0.0015 in theroom temperature, respectively

Notes: Ferroelectric properties of (Bi1/2Na1/2) TiO3-SrTiO3 were studied. The dielectric propertieswere measured at 1KHz. It was found that the dielectric constants are improved with the increase ofadditive amount of BNT. If the amount continues increasing, the properties become worse, theoptimum dielectric constant of the samples can reach 4300. When the proportion of (Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3:SrTiO3 is 65:35, with the increase of additive amount of MnCO3, the Curie temperature descendsobviously. The dielectric constant increased at beginning and dropped sharply when the amount ofMnCO3 exceeds 1.1wt%

Notes: Piezoelectric servo mechanism, with its existing nonlinear response and hysteresis, restricts the precision greatly when applied to manufacturing of non-axisymmetric optic mirror. On the basis of theory analysis and experiments, this paper builds three kinds of feed-forward model of piezoelectric servo cutting system. According to these mathematical models, we make the compensation control to the cutting tool position, which results the maximum displacement error less than 0.04μm. And based on this method, experiments on machining non-axisymmetric opticsurface of wave front corrector shows the Zernike relative error is less than 10%. So the compensation control of feed-forward control model of cutting tools position can efficiently counteract the influence of nonlinear response and hysteresis, which improves machining precision of non-axisymmetric optic mirror surface

Notes: Ultrasonic vibration is applied to diamond turning of special stainless steel to decreasediamond tool wear and improve the surface quality of the workpieces. It reviews the principle ofdiamond turning of special stainless steel by applying ultrasonic vibration combined with gas shield.Compared with the ordinary machining method, cutting temperature and cutting force are greatlyreduced when machining by application of ultrasonic vibration, and the appetency between adiamond tool and Ferrous atom of a workpiece is also minimized as gas shield application. TheExperiments of cutting special stainless steel workpieces show that the surface roughness Ra is lessthan 0.15μm and flank wear-width is less than 5μm when cutting distance is up to 2000m. It takesresearch on the effect of cutting parameters to surface roughness and tool wear. The experimentresult shows that the amplitude is the most important factor which effects tool wear and surfaceroughness most

Notes: Abstract A computer-vision system to assist pilots during low-altitude flight has been developed in this research study. During this critical section of flight, a system that can detect various objects on the ground would be very useful both for enhancing the safety of navigation and for relieving pilots of a part of their workload in flight control. Such tasks can generally be automated by computer-vision-based methods, which provide the ability for object detection and tracking. This paper describes the algorithms developed for accomplishing such tasks. There are two main stages in the vision system. First, independently moving objects in the scene are detected and segmented from the background. Then, they are tracked from frame to frame, and their 3D motion parameters are recursively estimated with Kalman filtering techniques. Experiments using real-world image sequences have been carried out, and the results show that tracking moving objects is successful and the estimation of object's motion parameters are quite accurate.

Notes: Abstract This paper reviews the Video-On-Demand technical trial conducted by Computer & Communication Research Laboratories in Taiwan. This trial is one of the key realization of Taiwan's National Information Infrastructure. The primary goal is to provide a testbed and platform for new product development, interoperability test, and interactive multimedia applications. It also explores the technical difficulties from which experiences can be gained for future large scale deployment. Open system and end-to-end system are the most important requirements of the VOD system in this trial. Open system allows a variety of video servers and set-top boxes to be integrated into the system while end-to-end system requires system integration know-how. An overview of the Video-On-Demand system is provided in this paper. The architecture of the video server, delivery network and set-top box will be examined. The system integration issues including content preparation will also be discussed.
