Description / Table of Contents:
Ag—SiO2-carrier catalysts exhibiting high activities on the decomposition of formic acid vapour have been prepared by reduction of the crystalline silver silicates Ag4SiO4, Ag2SiO3, and Ag2Si2O5 The activities of the most effective catalysts being prepared from the phyllosilicate Ag2Si2O5 increase with higher reduction and annealing temperatures, respectively. This effects is supposed to be due to the formation of well-crystallized silver surfaces.Similarly active Ni—SiO2- and Cu—SiO2-catalysts are formed by reduction of the products resulting from interaction between the phyllosilicic acid H2Si2O5 and solution of nickel and copper ammoniates, respectively. From the valuable properties of these catalysts, it is concluded that metal silicates possessing layer anions yield an especially suitable SiO2-carrier on reduction.
Notes:
